  • The goal of this paper is to represent a technique of fault detection for the control surface as a base research of the fault tolerant control system for safety improvement of UAV. The real-time system identification based on the recursive Fourier Transform was implemented for the fault detection of the control surface and verified through the HILS and flight test. The failures of the control surface are detected by comparing the control derivatives in fault condition with the normal condition. As a result from the flight test, we have confirmed that the control derivatives of fault condition less than normal condition.

  • A real-time system is a system wherein the behavior of the system depends not only on the input but also on the timing of the input. Timed automata is a widely used model for real-time system modeling and analysis. Model-based testing is employed to check whether the system under test (SUT) works according to the model specifications by using test cases generated from models that represent software requirements. In this paper, a case study was performed applying the timed automata based testing tools, UPPAAL-TRON, UPPAAL-COVER and SYMBOLRT, to the same system. Comparison of the testing approaches and tools is then made based on the results of the case study.

  • A location-aware system, which is capable to detect a user's whereabout in a region and provide real-time location information in outdoor environment is designed and fabricated, specifically using the GPS (global positioning system) as key technology in view of its stability and high precision in outdoor environment. Experiment is conducted to test this application in campus-based environment. Once GPS receiver detects specific location which is tagged with GPS coordinates, the system provides information relevant to that context and user can operate and react accordingly. Besides, this location-aware system is able to provide user with the route in order to get to a desired place by detecting the direction that the user is moving towards from his/her initial location. The mapping data is transferred via wireless LAN to PDA carried by the user as well as to the back-end system on real-time basis. The test result is analyzed and discussed to validate the effectiveness of using GPS in implementing this system and indicates future works that could be made to improve this prototype to be implemented in other applications, such as theme park, tourist attraction spot or recreational park.

  • A reliable automatic passenger counting (APC) system is a key point in transportation related to the efficient scheduling and management of transport routes. In this study, we introduce a lightweight head detection network using deep learning applicable to an embedded system. Currently, object detection algorithms using deep learning have been found to be successful. However, these algorithms essentially need a graphics processing unit (GPU) to make them performable in real-time. So, we modify a Tiny-YOLOv3 network using certain techniques to speed up the proposed network and to make it more accurate in a non-GPU environment. Finally, we introduce an APC system, which is performable in real-time on embedded systems, using the proposed head detection algorithm. We implement and test the proposed APC system on a Samsung ARTIK 710 board. The experimental results on three public head datasets reflect the detection accuracy and efficiency of the proposed head detection network against Tiny-YOLOv3. Moreover, to test the proposed APC system, we measured the accuracy and recognition speed by repeating 50 instances of entering and 50 instances of exiting. These experimental results showed 99% accuracy and a 0.041-second recognition speed despite the fact that only the CPU was used.

  • A scheduling policy or a schedulability test is defined to be sustainable if any task system determined to be schedulable remains so if it behaves "better" than mandated by its system specifications. We provide a formal definition of sustainability, and subject the concept to systematic analysis in the context of the uniprocessor scheduling of periodic and sporadic task systems. We argue that it is, in general, preferable engineering practice to use sustainable tests if possible, and classify common uniprocessor schedulability tests according to whether they are sustainable or not.

  • This paper presents design and implementation methods of the real-time three dimensional tracking system of the gazing point. The proposed method is based on three dimensional data processing of eye images in the 3D world coordinates. The system hardware consists of two conventional CCD cameras for acquisition of stereoscopic image and computer for processing. And in this paper, the advantages of the proposed algorithm and test results ate described.

  • This paper introduces a method for design verification and performance evaluation of flight control system. The method is a real time hardware in the loop simulation using the hybrid computer and motion table facility. As a typical illustration, a roll control system of flight vehicle is applied. The simulation validity is demonstrated by comparing hardware test results with analog simulation results.

  • Digital relays have numerous advantages over traditional analog relays, such as the ability to accomplish what is difficult or impossible using analog relays. This paper presents the protective relay modeling of generator using Real Time Digital Simulator(RTDS). The developed model is applied to the test system and the simulation results are evident that they performs satisfactory.

  • In recent years, significant advances in computers and communication technologies have made multimedia services feasible. As a result, various queuing models and cost models on architecture and data placement for multimedia server have been proposed. However, these analytical techniques use only probabilistic models to represent the behavior of a system, and then they have several limitations like accuracy. Simulation is a viable alternative to analytical model. It avoids many of the limitations associated with analytical techniques, allowing for more precise representation of system attributes like workload in program code. In this paper, we propose a simulation test bed that can evaluate performance of real-time multimedia server by using simulation model.

  • This article presents a simple and reasonable in-service, real-time, and continuous single-ended objective video quality assessment model for DTV broadcasting using a multiburst signal at the bottom of the transient effect area, similar to Vertical Interval Test Signals. The issue of in-service video-quality monitoring in DTV broadcasting is addressed, and an effective method of quality monitoring is presented. The proposed method is also implemented and tested in a range of situations using a simulated HDTV broadcasting network.
