  • As low-power and low-rate WSNs are being widely used for industrial applications, the scheduling of such applications becomes a critical issue to guarantee meeting the stringent requirements of determinism and tight latencies. This paper studies the link scheduling problem for real-time industrial applications in time-slotted channel hopping (TSCH) networks. We propose a heuristic algorithm for centralized link scheduling referred to as path-collision aware least laxity first (PC-LLF) algorithm, which dynamically prioritizes the packets based on the laxity time to the end-to-end deadlines and the amount of collisions that messages might deal with along their designated paths to the destination device. We propose schedulability analysis of real-time applications scheduled under our prioritization approach over TSCH networks, based on the literature on real-time schedulability analysis of multiprocessors and distributed systems. We show that our methodology provides an improved schedulability condition with respect to the existing approaches. Performance evaluation studies quantify to quantify the performance of our proposed approach under a variety of scenarios.

  • Task scheduling is an essential part of any computer system for allocating tasks to a processor of the system among various competitors. As we know, in real-time system, the failure of scheduling a hard real-time task my lead to disastrous consequence. Besides efficiency, resource and speed, real-time system has to take time constraint in serious consideration. This paper proposes a priority-driven scheduling algorithm for real-time multiprocessor system. which is called L-RE coordinates algorithm. L-RE coordinates is a new way of describing the task scheduling problem. In the algorithm, we take both deadline and laxity into consideration for allocating the priority. The simulation result shows that the new algorithm is viable and performance better than EDF and LLF algorithm on schedulability and context switch respectively.

  • This paper proposes a reconfigurable scheduler model that can support various real-time scheduling algorithms. The proposed model consists of two hierarchical upper and lower components, task scheduler and scheduling framework, respectively. The scheduling framework provides a job dispatcher and software timers. The task scheduler implements an appropriate scheduling algorithm, which supports a specific real-time application, based on the scheduling framework. If system developers observe internal kernel interfaces to communicate between two hierarchical components, they can implement a new scheduling algorithm independent of complex low kernel mechanism. Once a task scheduler is developed, it can be reused in a new real-time system in future. In Real-Time Linux (5), we implemented the proposed scheduling framework and several representative real-time scheduling algorithms. Throughout these implementations, we confirmed that a new scheduling algorithm could be developed independently without updates of complex low kernel modules. In order to confirm efficiency of the proposed model, we measured the performance of representative task schedulers. The results showed that the scheduling overhead of proposed model, which has two separated components, is similar to that of a classic monolithic kernel scheduler.

  • The purpose of this paper is to minimize the a slack computation time of the scheduling of a soft aperiodic real-time tasks in a fixed priority real-time system. The proposed algorithm reduces the computation overhead at on-line time and supports the maximum slack time assigned for aperiodic real-time tasks. The proposed algorithm has 10~20% more response time for aperiodic real-time tasks than that of Slack Stealing Algorithm that offers optimal response time in fixed priority real-time system. However, the performance of the proposed algorithm is seven times better in a scheduling overhead.

  • In this paper, we consider a new packet scheduling algorithm for real-time traffic in the HSDPA system that has been introduced for the WCDMA system, in order to provide high transmission rates. The objective of the design is to meet the maximum tolerable delay and consider channel assignment based on the received SIR for real-time traffic users. The proposed scheduling algorithm shows that the users are ranked by the ratios of the bits in the buffer to the residual time for transmission as priority order; then the ranked users are assigned certain number of channels based on the SIR value table. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can provide a lower packet drop rate, and satisfy real time quality of service (QoS) requirements.

  • Researches about scheduling of the distributed real-time systems have been proposed. However, they have some weak points, not scheduling both sporadic and periodic tasks and messages or being unable to guaranteeing the end-to-end constraints due to omitting precedence relations between sporadic tasks. So this paper proposes a new scheduling method for distributed real-time systems consisting of sporadic and periodic tasks with precedence relations and sporadic and periodic messages, guaranteeing end-to-end constraints. The proposed method is based on a binary search-based period assignment algorithm, an end-to-end laxity-based priority assignment algorithm, and three kinds of schedulability analysis, node, network, and end-to-end schedulability analysis. In addition, this paper describes the application model of sporadic tasks with precedence constraints in a distributed real-time system, shows that existing scheduling methods such as Rate Monotonic (RM) scheduling are not proper to be applied to the system having sporadic tasks with precedence constraints, and proposes an end-to-end laxity-based priority assignment algorithm.

  • The camera based object detection systems should satisfy the recognition performance as well as real-time constraints. Particularly, in safety-critical systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), the real-time constraints significantly affects the system performance. Recently, multi-core processors and system-on-chip technologies are widely used to accelerate the object detection algorithm by distributing computational loads. However, due to the advanced hardware, the complexity of system architecture is increased even though additional hardwares improve the real-time performance. The increased complexity also cause difficulty in migration of existing algorithms and development of new algorithms. In this paper, to improve real-time performance and design complexity, a task scheduling strategy is proposed for visual object tracking systems. The real-time performance of the vision algorithm is increased by applying pipelining to task scheduling in a multi-core processor. Finally, the proposed task scheduling algorithm is applied to crosswalk detection and tracking system to prove the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

The proposed algorithm is developed base on Hopfield neural network for a benefit of parallel processing, in order to finish a requested task within a deadline time. To compare the performance of the proposed algorithm, we used EDA and LLA algorithm that has studied real-time multiprocessor scheduling before. The proposed algorithm is implemented hardware using VHDL.

  • The Pfair scheduling algorithm, which is an optimal scheduling algorithm in the hard real-time multiprocessor environments, propose the necessary and sufficient condition for the schedulability and is based on the fixed quantum size. Recently, several methods that determine the optimal quantum size dynamically were proposed in the mode change environments. But these methods considered only the case in which the period of a task is increased or decreased. In this paper, we also consider the case in which the execution time of a task is increased or decreased, and propose new methods that determine the optimal quantum size dynamically.

  • HPI (High-speed Portable Internet) system which provides high speed internet services is going to be commercialized soon. Since HPI provides simultaneously four different service types such as UGS (Unsolicited Grant Service), rtPS (real time Polling Service), nrtPS(non-real time Polling Service), and BE (Best Effort) under different QoS (Quality of Service) requirements and limited wireless channel resources, efficient packet scheduling mechanisms are necessary to increase the utilization of channels as well as to satisfy the various QoS requirements. This study regards the traffic data to be served as time series and proposes a new packet scheduling algorithm based on the nonparametric statistical test. The performance of the newly proposed algorithm is evaluated through the simulation analysis using a simulator that can evaluate the performance of packet scheduling mechanisms under various values of system parameters and measures such as packet delay time, data transmission rate, number of loss packets, and channel utilization.
