  • Recently, message based data transmission plays an important role in modem computing systems. Especially JMS(Java Message Service) is one of the most popular messaging platform. However, because of its characteristics for maintaining reliability, if we want to use it for transmission of large scale messages in a distributed Internet environment by using a WAN connection which may not be robust enough, we need to employ a different method to minimize total transmission time of messages. We found the fact that the total time of message transmission heavily depends on size of a message. In order to achieve the ideal size of a message, we develope a novel mechanism and a system which finds the ideal size of a message and automatical1y control JMS applications for minimizing transmission time. Finally, we test the proposed mechanism and system using real-data in order to prove advantages and compared with the naive mechanism. As a conclusion, we showed that our proposed mechanism and system provide an effective way to reduce transmission time of large scale messages in distributed environment.

  • In virtual memory system, when a process attempts to access a page that is not resident in memory, the system generates and handles a page fault that causes unpredictable delay. So virtual memory system is not appropriate for the real-time system, because it can increase the deadline miss ratio of real-time task. In multimedia system, virtual memory system may degrade the QoS(quality of service) of multimedia application. Furthermore, in general-purpose operating system, whenever a new task is dynamically loaded, virtual memory system suffers from extensive page fault that cause transient overloading state. In this paper, we present efficient overloading control mechanism called RBPFH (Rate-Based Page Fault Handling). A significant feature of the RBPFH algorithm is page fault dispersion that keeps page fault ratio from exceeding available bound by monitoring current system resources. Furthermore, whenever the amount of available system resource is changed, the RBPFH algorithm dynamically adjusts the page fault handling rate. The RBPFH algorithm is implemented in the Linux operating system and its performance measured. The results demonstrate RBPFH\`s superior performance in supporting multimedia applications. Experiment result shows that RBPFH could achieve 10%∼20% reduction in deadline miss ratio and 50%∼60% reduction in average delay.

  • IEEE 802.11 Point Coordination Function (PCF) mode is defined to support time bounded traffic, such as voice in wireless LANs. The poll scheduling plays an important role in IEEE 802.11 PCF mode operation. This paper proposed a Multicast Polling Scheme (MPC) to increase the performance of wireless LANs. Moreover, we proposed a polling schedule scheme for our proposed multi-poll to serve real-time traffic. The results show that the proposed mechanism is more efficient than the original IEEE 802.11 PCF.

  • The system start-up function of TDX-1A that should be executed during installation or emergency has been designed to meet requirements of the distributed real time control system. It is performed in a centralized manner by the dedicated processor according to the maintenance and administration mechanism of the system. Upon execution, it provides information on the system state for the ESS personal. In additions, it protects the loss the charging and statistics data, and minimizes the effect on the customer service. This paper describes the design concept of the system startup function and its implementation method and also calculates its the execution time.

  • The recent movement to deregulated and competitive electricity market changes the role of Security Constrained Optimal Power Flow (SCOPF) and increases the importance for real-time computation. communication, and on-line data control. As power systems tend to be operated more closely to their ultimate ratings, more rapid updates of telemetered data and faster solutions times are becomimg necessary to better track the changes in systems. This paper presents an on-line SCOPF application exploiting the state-of-art OPF tools and corresponding interfacing technologies. The significance of the proposed mechanism is demonstrated with a case study system.

  • In this paper, the seismic analysis and the modeling techniques have been introduced for aseismic performances assessment, when seismic isolation bearings are applied on a real bridge. Nonlinear time-history analysis is carried out using finite element analysis program. In this study, EI Centro earthquake(1940, N00W), Mexico earthquake(1985, N90W), and earthquake simulation from modified SIMQKE are used as earthquake ground excitations. The seismic response of seismically isolated bridge is compared with that of a bridge using conventional Pot Bearings, after obtaining the displacements of the deck, the deformations of the piers, shear forces and moments of the bottoms of the piers. The analytical analysis results show that seismic isolation bearing, especially seismic isolation bearings with sliding mechanism, could reduce earthquake forces.

  • Optical phase conjugate mechanism and edge enhancement by degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) in photorefractive material are described, and image reconstruction is perfromed sucessfully in BaTiO3 single crystal. Also, the edge enhancement is carried out in the crystal by the same DFWM geometry. But the intensities of three incident beams are inverted. Good quality of edge enhancement is observed in real-time (processing time 10 sec) with low incident light intensity (5.38mW/cm\ulcorner.

  • CMDPS (COMS Meteorological Data Processing System) is the operational meteorological products extraction system for data observed from COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) meteorological imager. CMDPS baseline products consist of 16 parameters including cloud information, water vapor products, surface information, environmental products and atmospheric motion vector. Additionally, CMDPS includes the function of calibration monitoring, and validation mechanism of the baseline products. The main objective of CMDPS validation module development is near-real time monitoring for the accuracy and reliability of the whole CMDPS products. Also, its long time validation statistics are used for upgrade of CMDPS such as algorithm parameter tuning and retrieval algorithm modification. This paper introduces the preliminary design on CMDPS validation module.

  • The complete joining method for dissimilar hot die punch materials and its real-time evaluation method are not available at present. Brazing method has been used for joining them, but it is known that the welded joint by the brazing has the lower bonding efficiency and reliability than the diffusion welding. The friction welding with a diffusion mechanism in bonding was applied in this study. So, this work was carried out to determine the optimal friction welding conditions and to analyze mechanical properties of friction welded joints of hot die punch materials (STD61 for the blade part of hot die punch) to alloy steel (SCM440 for the shank part of hot die punch) such as plunger. In addition, acoustic emission test was carried out during friction welding to evaluate the weld quality.
