The purpose of this study was to investigate a process of change which was made by a science teacher for one-year long in-service education program in terms of constructivist teaching behaviors and beliefs. The in-service program was featured by the use of learning cycle model and Science-Technology-Society approach. One of science teachers, who attended an one-year long in-service program was selected for this study. She developed three teaching materials for the duration. The three teaching materials were analyzed to find components of Science-Technology-Society and the integration of science content and real life context. Also, an interview was performed to assess changes in her perspectives on science, science teaching and science learning through the program. The first material was constructed in the form of learning cycle with little emphasis on STS. The second material was embedded with personal matters such as a refrigerator. The final one was shown to be organized with science content in a personal context and with focus on the role play. The interview also showed that her perspectives on science and science teaching have changed toward the constructivist's during the participation in the in-service program. It is suggested that a long-term in-service program should be developed and implemented so that the science teachers may become constructivist teachers.
Nowadays, recognizing human activities is an important subject; it is exploited widely and applied to many fields in real-life, especially in health care and context aware application. Research achievements are mainly focused on activities of daily living which are useful for suggesting advises to health care applications. Falling event is one of the biggest risks to the health and well-being of the elderly especially in independent living because falling accidents may be caused from heart attack. Recognizing this activity still remains in difficult research area. Many systems equipped wearable sensors have been proposed but they are not useful if users forget to wear the clothes or lack ability to adapt themselves to mobile systems without specific wearable sensors. In this paper, we develop a novel method based on analyzing the change of acceleration, orientation when the fall occurs and measure their similarity to featured fall patterns. In this study, we recruit five volunteers in our experiment including various fall categories. The results are effective for recognizing fall activity. Our system is implemented on G1 smart phone which are already plugged accelerometer and orientation sensors. The popular phone is used to get data from accelerometer and results showthe feasibility of our method and significant contribution to fall detection.

This study examines the drama "Still in Marronnier Park"(2005) to examine the strategies by which the drama communicates Korean society and literature of the 1960s to the public. The drama focuses on three characters to characterize the historical upheavals of the 1960s and the literary response. In particular, the drama tackles the historical events of the time head-on by introducing characters who are real-life politicians. Therefore, the drama explains historical events through narrators, interviews, and video footage, and at the same time, it helps us understand how political and social events affected the inner lives of Koreans. Through the narratives of Kim Ji-ha and Kim Seung-ok, the drama also conveys how Korean literature responded to unjust realities in the political and social context of the 1960s. Kim Ji-ha's rebellion against those in power and Kim Seung-ok's depiction of her inner landscape are used to portray the response of literature to political reality. Although the drama has the limitation of being somewhat typical, it raises meaningful questions about the meaning of literature in the political and social context of the 1960s and how the memory of the 1960s has left a trace in the minds of Koreans.

Culture is an indispensable element in modern society in improving the quality of life for city dwellers and stimulating the urbanization. The conspicuous emergence of cultural cities, which is a new paradigm, can be understood in that context. Global cities are pursuing cultural cities, and autonomous regions in Korea are also pushing ahead with the urbanization which combines cultural elements. Specifically, Nam-gu of Incheon has set an example of successful cultural city for other autonomous regions. The cultural environmental policy of Nam-gu is deemed to have retained the infrastructure, cultural urban landscape and living space, and a plenty of contents. The real significance of cultural city lies in the pursuit of sustainable urban development as a culture-friendly city. For that, the direction of cultural environmental city has to be firmly set, and related law and system should be strengthened. Above all, it is critical to pursue human-oriented cultural city by showing citizens what roles they have to play, setting the right direction, and improving the partnership.
Futurists objected the existent style, that is the conventional fashion, and took part in these disciplines of fashion to make clothes the instruments being able to represent the individuality. Giacomo Balla and fortunato Depero, pain-ters who in 1915 were to work with Diaghilev's company, were the first to see clothing as a dynamic interfaced between th body and the atmosphere, between physical gestures and the urban context, which could be translated into encounters between forms and colours, volumes and architecture. For them, clothing began to exist as an object and an event, something to be removed from a mainly static conception and made mobile, active. The interaction between movement and clothing was based on the relativity of perception : the appearance and disappearance of the body produced points without dimension or duration which served, as Balla wrote in the Futurist Mnaifesto of Men's Clothing to“renew incessantly the enjoyment and impetuous movement of the body”. The historical achievement in the effort for the reformation of Futurist, Art to Wear. First, for Futurist, clothing is removed from a static conception and focused on dynamics. Second, Balla used asymmetry in men's clothing. Moreover he supposed dynamic men's clothes by using optical intersection. Third, the after image of Chronophotograph represented rapidity. This rhythmic expression is the fore-runner in Optical and Kinetic Art of Visual Art. Fourth, Futurist emphasized flexibility in fashion. They aimed to create‘Clothing Machines’whose parts would interact to aceelerate the real and virtual, inner and outer movement of the human being. Fifth, the variety and short life of cutting skills and colors are focused and‘Fast Substance’in fashion is admitted by Futurists. Futurist concern with clothing was not lim-ited its appearance in terms of cut and colour. What important was also the way it appeared and disappeared according to fashion. It was a“fast substance”, able to reflect rapid, sudden changes of social and aesthetic taste. To reach to the aim of internationalization, Gesamtkunstwerk in our Art to Wear, it is extremely meaningful to examine art fashion which is created under the conception of Gesamtkunstwerk production of avang garde artist in the early 20th century and look at formative conscious of truth, goodess and beauty synthetically which they faced on their works of art.
Practicality and value of mathematics can be verified when different problems that we face in life are resolved through mathematical knowledge. This study intends to identify whether the fraction teaching is being taught and learned at current elementary schools for students to recognize practicality and value of mathematical knowledge and to have the ability to apply the concept when solving problems in the real world. Accordingly, contextual problems and noncontextual problems are proposed around fractional arithmetic area, and compared and analyze the achievement level and problem solving processes of them. Analysis showed that there was significant difference in achievement level and solving process between contextual problems and noncontextual problems. To instruct more meaningful learning for student, contextual problems including historical context or practical situation should be presented for students to experience mathematics of creating mathematical knowledge on their own.
Ministry of Education has proposed storytelling in context of the actual or fantasy for the sake of fun and easy mathematics education. However most of school mathematics is not associated with the real life. In that case it could be one method for cultivating positive affects about mathematics that we make up and apply mathematics narrative with which we can reveal what makes mathematics interesting. In this study, among every problem in every examination in four regular examination that targeted the first-year of one ordinary high school in Seoul, I elected a total of four problems, and wrote a total 4 of mathematics narratives. I analysed a case on a few students with which I had conversations after teaching those 4 number of mathematics narratives, and studied mathematics narrative's influences on affects about mathematics of ordinary high school students. As a result, from one of a few students we could observe that his mathematical emotional mind had varied positively. From the student and the other students who had been engaged I discussed some implications and some points to be improved about making up and applying mathematics narrative for cultivating positive affects about mathematics.

The combination of multiple antennas and multi-carrier code division multiple-access (MC-CDMA) is a strong candidate for the downlink of the next generation mobile communications. The study of such systems in scenarios that model real-life trans-missions is an additional step towards an optimized achievement. We consider a realistic MIMO channel with two or four transmit antennas and up to two receive antennas, and channel state information (CSI) mismatches. Depending on the mobile terminal (MT) class, its number of antennas or complexity allowed, different data-rates are proposed with turbo-coding and asymptotic spectral efficiencies from 1 to 4.5 bit/s/Hz, using three algorithms developed within the European IST-MATRICE project. These algorithms can be classified according to the degree of CSI at base-station (BS): i) Transmit space-frequency prefiltering based on constrained zero-forcing algorithm with complete CSI at BS; ii) transmit beamforming based on spatial correlation matrix estimation from partial CSI at BS; iii) orthogonal space-time block coding based on Alamouti scheme without CSI at BS. All presented schemes require a reasonable complexity at MT, and are compatible with a single-antenna receiver. A choice between these algorithms is proposed in order to significantly improve the performance of MC-CDMA and to cover the different environments considered for the next generation cellular systems. For beyond-3G, we propose prefiltering for indoor and pedestrian microcell environments, beamforming for suburban macrocells including high-speed train, and space-time coding for urban conditions with moderate to high speeds.
The goal of today's environmental education is to enhance the understanding of the serious of environmental problems and the interactions among environment. With this perspectives people need to be aware that environmental education is no longer a liberal arts in university education, but play a vital role within the socio-cultural context. This study was performed to assess the changes in the university student's attitudes and consciousness in real life after the education of a point at issues of environmental problems. For this study 11 questionnaires which were composed of large scale environmental problems(water and air pollution), and small scale environmental problems(food additives, GMO, endocrine disrupter) were performed with self-administered by university students(n=781) who made a application for liberal arts related to environmental subjects. According to the analysis the most student's consciousness of a point at issue of environmental problems(water pollution, air pollution, additives, GMO, endocrine disrupter), and practical attitudes(i.e., practical attendant at congregation and internet voting) were change statistically significant(p<0.01) after the education of a point at issue of environmental problems rather than before. Specially, the score for the item of the large scale problem of environmental issues(water pollution, air pollution) were decreased significantly(p<0.01), but the score for the small scale problems, such as food additives, GMO, endocrine disrupter were increased significantly(p<0.01) after the education of a point at issue of environmental problems(p<0.01). And among the students that participated, 97.7% responded that such a point at issues of environmental problem is needed at the university. With this educational improvements supports the states that the education of a point at issue of environmental problems were more essential, practical and needed to students at university rather than that of an existing instruction. Thus, further studies are required to develop the education of environmental issues at universities like STSE programme.
The purpose of this study is to compare the eighth-grade mathematics textbooks of Korea, Japan on the one hand, and those of the United States and England on the other, and to explore the implications for mathematics education in the East and the West. As a result, the dichotomy between the East and the West were set up with the sacrifice of the details. First, the textbook development and publication policies of the East are characterized as uniformity, and those of the West are diversity. Second, for the choice of content, the East and West can be represented by essential and discretionary respectively. Third, the physical appearance of Eastern textbooks is rather plain while that of the Western textbooks is colorful, Fourth, in terms of the characteristics of the content, the dichotomies between the East and the West are linear vs. spiral, content vs. context, formal abidance vs. metacognitive shift, and simple vs. realistic. Each of the Eastern and Western approaches has its own weak points as well as its strong points. For instance, textbooks In the West may help students realize how useful mathematics can be in their lives, but if the link between a mathematical concept and the corresponding real life situation is not made clear, sometimes students may not be able to completely grasp the mathematical concept. In turn, the Eastern textbooks may succeed In conveying ideas in an economical way, but they often fail to motivate students to follow the course. Therefore it is important to take a critical view of each approach. It is through a critical understanding of the differences between different cultures that we are able to learn from each other and to put the results of such comparative studies to better use in the future.
