  • A core technology for implementation of Augmented Reality is to develop a merging algorithm between interesting 3-D objects and real images. In this paper, we present a 3-D object recognition method to decide viewing direction toward the object from camera. This process is the starting point to merge with real image and 3-D objects. Perspective projection between a camera and 3-dimentional objects defines a plane in 3-D space that is from a line in an image and the focal point of the camera. If no errors with perfect 3-D models were introduced in during image feature extraction, then model lines in 3-D space projecting onto this line in the image would exactly lie in this plane. • Focal mechanism of the real and imaginary faults in the western coast of Japan has been assumed by examining the previous studies on the seismicity, seismic gap, fault behaviors, seismic zoning, and faults. In the area of no seismic information, the focal mechanism has been assumed to have the maximum influence on the tsunami height in the eastern coast of Korea. The tsunami height in a particular point of the eastern coast of Korea can vary up to 7 orders with the variation of the strike of the fault in a particular source point of the western coast of Japan with constant magnitude. Tsunami scenario DB including tile arrival times and tsunami heights has been constructing by using the assumed focal mechanism of the western coast of Japan. Tsunami warning system will be reinforced by using this tsunami scenario DB near future.

  • The focal spot of electron beam depending on the anode angle in the structure and major parts of the X-ray tube was investigated by the OPERA-3D/SCALAR simulation program. The simulation worked on four spaces with with two spaces, including anode and cathode of X-ray tube, by applying the finite element method analysis. The analytical model and dimension for the emission orbit of thermal electrons made from one filament of the focused X-ray cathode is affected to the penumbra of detector for the X-ray depending on any real focal spot size. The model shape of focusing cap and focusing tube with an anode target angle and a cathode filament is analyzed by the current density distribution of thermal electrons. The focusing width of thermal electrons for the X-ray tube depended on the anode angle (${\theta}$). The focusing value of electron beams at a region of anode angle having $10^{\circ}{\sim}17^{\circ}$ maintained to below value of $70{\mu}m$. The minimum focal size of the electron beam was $40{\mu}m$ at an anode angle of $15^{\circ}$. The focused X-ray tube of many variables depended on the thermionic emission of hot electrons from the target trajectory. The focusing tube will contribute to the real design of X-ray for the development of future diagnosis medical device.

  • In order to simulate a depth-of-field effect in real world, there have been several researches in computer graphics field. It can represent an out-of-focused scene by calculating focal plane. When a point in a 3D coordinate lies on further or nearer than focal plane, the point is presented as a blurred circle on image plane according to the characteristic of the aperture and the lens. We can generate a realistic image by simulating the effect because it provides an out-of-focused scene like human eye dose. In this paper, we propose a method to calculate a disparity value of a viewer using a customized stereoscopic eye-tracking system and a GPU-based depth-of-field control method. They enable us to generate more realistic images reducing side effects such as dizziness. Since stereoscopic imaging system compels the users to fix their focal position, they usually feel discomfort during watching the stereoscopic images. The proposed method can reduce the side effect of stereoscopic display system and generate more immersive images.

  • The objective of camera calibration is to obtain the correlation between camera image coordinate and 3-D real world coordinate. Most calibration methods are based on the camera model which consists of physical parameters of the camera like position, orientation, focal length, etc and in this case camera calibration means the process of computing those parameters. In this research, we suggest a new approach which must be very efficient because the artificial neural network(ANN) model implicitly contains all the physical parameters, some of which are very difficult to be estimated by the existing calibration methods. Implicit camera calibration which means the process of calibrating a camera without explicitly computing its physical parameters can be used for both 3-D measurement and generation of image coordinates. As training each calibration points having different height, we can find the perspective projection point. The point can be used for reconstruction 3-D real world coordinate having arbitrary height and image coordinate of arbitrary 3-D real world coordinate. Experimental comparison of our method with well-known Tsai's 2 stage method is made to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Machine vision systems are usually used to identify traffic lanes and then determine the steering angle of an autonomous vehicle in real time. The steering angle is calculated using a geometric model of various parameters including the orientation, position, and hardware specification of a camera in the machine vision system. To find the accurate values of the parameters, camera calibration is required. This paper presents a new camera-calibration algorithm using known traffic lane features, line thickness and lane width. The camera parameters considered are divided into two groups: Group I (the camera orientation, the uncertainty image scale factor, and the focal length) and Group II(the camera position). First, six control points are extracted from an image of two traffic lines and then eight nonlinear equations are generated based on the points. The least square method is used to find the estimates for the Group I parameters. Finally, values of the Group II parameters are determined using point correspondences between the image and its corresponding real world. Experimental results prove the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.

  • Objective : Cortical dysplasia (CD) is one of the common causes of epilepsy surgery. However, surgical outcome still remains poor, especially with frontal lobe epilepsy (FLE), despite the advancement of neuroimaging techniques and expansion of surgical indications. The aim of this study was to focus on surgical strategies in terms of extent of resection to improve surgical outcome in the cases of FLE with CD. Methods : A total of 11 patients of FLE were selected among 67 patients who were proven pathologically as CD, out of a total of 726 epilepsy surgery series since 1992. This study categorized surgical groups into three according to the extent of resection : 1) focal corticectomy, 2) regional corticectomy, and 3) partial functional lobectomy, based on the preoperative evaluation, in particular, ictal scalp EEG onset and/or intracranial recordings, and the lesions in high-resolution MRI. Surgical outcome was assessed following Engel's classification system. Results : Focal corticectomy was performed in 5 patients and regional corticectomy in another set of 5 patients. Only 1 patient underwent partial functional lobectomy. Types I and II CD were detected with the same frequency (45.45% each) and postoperative outcome was fully satisfactory (91%). Conclusion : The strategy of epilepsy surgery is to focus on the different characteristics of each individual, considering the extent of real resection, which is based on the focal ictal onset consistent with neuroimaging, especially in the practical point of view of neurosurgery.

  • In this paper, an incoherent holographic 3D imaging and display system based on the modified triangular and Mach-Zehnder interferometers is optically implemented and some experiments are carried out. Incoherent hologram of a 3D object is generated by using the hologram input system of modified triangular interferometer. Then this complex hologram is reconstructed by using the hologram output system of modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer in which two LCD spatial light modulators and a waveplate are inserted. From the experiment with two point sources having a depth difference of 100 mm each other, it is revealed that each point source can be independently reconstructed at its own focal position from the complex hologram, while both of the bias and conjugate image are simultaneously eliminated at the same time. And in the experiment with the real 3D object of two dices having a depth difference of 30 mm each other, it is also conformed that the bias and conjugate image can be effectively eliminated from the hologram pattern and each 3D dice can be also successfully reconstructed at its own focal position from the complex hologram. These experiment results finally suggest a possibility of implementing a new incoherent holographic 3D imaging and display system using the modified triangular and Mach-Zehender interferometers.

  • This paper has presented to the design results of the analog and digital signal processor for the 2nd generation thermal imaging system using $480\times6$ infrared focal plane array In order to correct non-uniformities of detector arrays, we have developed the 2-point correction method using the thermo electric cooler. Additionally, to enhance the image of low contrast and improve the detection capability, we developed the new technique of histogram processing being suitable for the characteristics of contrast distribution of thermal imagery. Through these image processing techniques, we obtained a high qualify thermal image and acquired good result.
