  • Even though decision of coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction is important in analysis for pile under lateral load, the behavior of pile under lateral loading is estimated differently due to using established suggestion. Therefore this study estimates coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction by using Chang's method or numerical inverse analysis method with the result of lateral load test. Then this study investigates the adequacy and reliability for coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction. The analytical results of coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction with lateral load test showed that coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction with Chang's method was underestimated as compared with inverse analysis. Deformation modulus of foundation by Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges and Eo${\fallingdotseq}$1,400~1,600N showed similar range like range of coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction with lateral load test.

  • We have examined the effect of values of subgrade reaction coefficient on the dynamic responses(displacement and strain responses) of the buried concrete pipeline of which the end boundary condition is the fixed ends. We have carried out the dynamic analysis of mode superposition method with representative values of coefficient of subgrade reaction applicable to the classified rock masses. We have found that the effect of subgrade reaction coefficient on the dynamic responses of the pipeline appears noticeable for the seismic waves having relatively high frequency and low apparent propagation velocity.

  • Many malfunctions take place in container crane spreader due to impact. So we designed a 2DOF hydraulic impact absorbing system with multi-step damping coefficient and studied the effect of orifice's interval and damping coefficient. The damping coefficient of upper piston was found to be 180 N.s/m, and the orifice's interval to be 9mm, the max reaction force and the average reaction force might be lowest. Compared with a general 2-DOF impact absorbing system, the max reaction force reduced by 46%., and average reaction force reduced by 5%.

  • In this study, the pressuremeter test (PMT) and the standard penetration test (SPT) were performed on the lateral pile loading tests site to evaluate the coefficient of subgrade reaction, which is used for load-deformation behavior analysis of laterally loaded piles by elastic subgrade reaction method. As a result, widely used empirical formulas of the coefficient of subgrade reaction by N values of SPT is evaluated conservatively lateral behavior of piles. While the method of directly used PMT results and evaluation method of the coefficient of subgrade reaction considering deformation moduli of soil and a pile diameter that is able to estimate very similar to actual load-deformation behavior of laterally loaded piles in deformation range of 0.5%-1.0% of a pile diameter.

  • Carbon fiber reinforced composites(CFRP) were fabricated with phenolic resin matrix by hot press molding, and its surface was modified by the ion-assisted reaction process. When we tested the friction coefficient and wear rate variation and observed the effect of fibers with respect to friction and wear characteristics, the amount of pitch based carbon fiber was 45wt% and the average friction coefficient was the lowest at 0.12. When the amount of ion-irradiation was $1\times10^{l6}ions/cm^2$, the friction coefficient of the composites was about 0.12 and the wear mode was stable, whereas, the friction coefficient of the non-treated composites was about 0.16 and the wear mode was very unstable. But if the amount of ion-irradiation was $5\times10^{l6}ions/cm^2$$1\times10^{l6}ions/cm^2$ion-irradiation case.

  • Diffusion is a crucial mechanism that regulates the migration of radioactive nuclides. In this study, an innovative numerical method was developed to simultaneously calculate the diffusion coefficient of both parent and, afterward, series daughter nuclides in a sequentially reactive through-diffusion model. Two constructed scenarios, a serial reaction (RN_1 ${\rightarrow}$ RN_2 ${\rightarrow}$ RN_3) and a parallel reaction (RN_1 ${\rightarrow}$ RN_2A + RN_2B), were proposed and calculated for verification. First, the accuracy of the proposed three-member reaction equations was validated using several default numerical experiments. Second, by applying the validated numerical experimental concentration variation data, the as-determined diffusion coefficient of the product nuclide was observed to be identical to the default data. The results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method. The significance of the proposed numerical method will be particularly powerful in determining the diffusion coefficients of systems with extremely thin specimens, long periods of diffusion time, and parent nuclides with fast decay constants.

  • In this paper, the Coefficient of Subgrade Reaction was analyzed from the data which were the results of lateral pile loading tests and pressuremeter tests on construction sites. The prediction method with N-value was compared with lateral pile loading tests and the results of lateral pile loading tests were compared with the prediction method considering diameter of a pile. Also, the results of lateral pressuremeter tests were compared with those of lateral pile loading tests. As a result, consideration for a diameter and lateral deformation of a pile was needed when the coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction is presumed. Therefore, a formula which is taking into account the allowable deformation of a pile was suggested from lateral pressuremeter tests in this study.

  • The lateral bearing characteristics of large diameter drilled shaft depend greatly on the stiffness of the pile, horizontal subgrade reaction of adjacent ground. In particular, the empirical evaluation results of the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient which are widely used in pile design are very important factors in evaluating the lateral bearing capacity of drilled shaft because the difference in bearing capacity depends on the estimated result. Nevertheless, the evaluation of the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient on the large diameter drilled shaft is insufficient. In addition, although the range of influence and the location of the maximum moment which is the weaken zone on the pile may be correlated and relationship of these are major consideration in determining the reinforced zone of drilled shaft, the previous studies have not been evaluated it. In this study, the field test and nonlinear analysis of large diameter drilled shaft were performed to evaluate the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient and to investigate the relationship between the influence range 1/β of the pile and the location of the maximum moment zm. In the result, the lateral bearing capacity of drilled shaft showed a difference in results by about 190% according to the empirical equation on the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient. And the relationship between the influence range of the pile and the location of the maximum moment was evaluated as a linear relationship depending on the soil density.

  • Bearing friction and disturbance are the important parameters in control spacecraft using reaction wheel. In this paper, those parameters are estimated by preload and oil quantity. In order to determine the bearing preload's impact on performance, measure the disturbance and the bearing friction coefficient with increasing the preload to the allowed amount. And, find the relationship between oil quantity and bearing friction coefficient, measure it with increasing the oil amount in the bearing. With these results as a reference, find the appropriate amount of preload and oil quantity.

  • Reaction-bonded SiC-Si material was fabricated by infiltration of Si melt into a mixture of $\alpha$-SiC and carbon at 175$0^{\circ}C$ under the vacuum atmosphere. Wear properties were analyzed by ball-on-plate wear tester, changing loading weight, sliding speed, sliding time and atmosphere, Results showed that the friction coefficient was decreased with increasing load and sliding velocity. The lowest friction coefficient of 0.05 was obtained under an oil atmosphere. The analysis of the wear surface indicated that the areas wehre particles were pulled out and where free silicon particles worn out preferentially serve as liquid reservoirs to decrease the wear resistance.
