As recently raw water quality has been polluted as well as its quality has been remarkably varied according to season and region, the precise control of coagulant dosage is being keenly required in water treatment plants. The amount of coagulant is closely related to raw water quality such as turbidity, alkalinity, water temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, etc. Since the optimum quantity of chemicals is not yet finalized, so dosage rate must be decided by using jar test that takes one or two hours. Hereupon, the output signal of stream current and multi-regression on historical data were proposed to be applied to the coagulant dosing control. In consequence of applying the scheme to automatic determination of the dosage rate, it was testified that the determination of dosage rate was very effective in case it is performed as to real-time sensing of water quality and the output signal of stream current.
The purpose of this study was to estimate the microbial quality of some raw vegetables, and suggest a safer method for their sanitization and pre-preparation in foodservice operations. Baechu-geotjeori was monitored from the ingredient to the final product, during different holding temperature. Three sanitization methods were performed during the pre-preparation (tap water, chlorine water and electrolyzed water). The largest reduction in the microbial counts was shown with the electrolyzed water pre-preparation (after treatment; the total plate counts decreased to 3.34-4.06 Log CFU/g, coliform counts decreased to 1.40-1.45 CFU/g). Prior to immersion in the chlorine water, washing was first peformed to see if the was a larger effective reduction in the microbial counts.
The purpose of this study was to estimate the microbial quality of some raw vegetables and to suggest a safer method of sanitization and pre-preparation in foodservice operations. The production of Dotori-muk muchim was monitored from ingredient preparation to final product and during holding at different temperatures. Three sanitization methods were performed during the preparation with crown daisy (tap water, chlorine water, electrolyzed water). The largest reduction of microbial counts was for electrolyzed water (after treatment, total plate counts were decreased to $2.76{\sim}3.76$ Log CFU/g, coliform counts were not detected). In the case before immersed in chlorine water, Performed first washing is larger the effective reduction of microbial counts than or not.
High-pressure membrane system like nanofiltration(NF) and reverse osmosis(RO) was investigated as a part of water treatment processes to produce high quality potable water with low organic matter concentration through membrane module tests and design simulation. River water and sand filtration permeate in Busan D water treatment plant were selected as feed water, and NE4040-90 and RE4040-Fen(Toray Chemical Korea) were used as NF and RO membranes, respectively. Total organic carbon(TOC) concentrations of NF and RO permeates were mostly below 0.5 mg/l and the average TOC removal rates of NF and RO membranes were 93.99% and 94.28%, respectively, which means NF used in this study is competitive with RO in terms of organic matter removal ability. Different from ions rejection tendency, the TOC removal rate increases at higher recovery rates, which is because the portion of higher molecular weight materials in the concentrated raw water with increasing recovery rate increases. Discharge of NF/RO concentrates to rivers may not be acceptable because the increased TDS concentration of the concentrates can harm the river eco-system. Thus, the idea of using NF/RO concentrate as the raw water for industrial water production was introduced. The design simulation results with feed water and membranes used in this work reveal that the raw water guideline can be satisfied if the recovery rate of NF/RO system is designed below 80%.
Chlorination dosage in water treatment plant of field is determined by chlorination demand experiment through two or three hours after raw water was sampled in inflow. It is impossible to continuously control for real time because the sampled water is adapted chlorination dosage after water treatment process had been proceeded. Therefore in this study, we will design informal chlorination demand system, this designed system will be experimented as to water quality and accuracy of control in various conditions. Throughout these experimental results, we will revise the system and the revised system is enable to optimal control of chlorination dosage. Finally, we have developed chlorination demand system, which can automatically determination of chlorination dosage to be determined according to variety of raw water quality inflow in water treatment plant.

It is generally known that paper industry is the second largest industry in the use of process water, and also have the highest environmental impact load in the contaminant sources. Paper is produced from the mixtures composed of 1% fibrous raw materials and 99% water. The optimum use of process water effects on the quality properties of paper and the environmental impact load of waste water treatment. In this research, the kinds of fibrous raw material & additives used in the paperboard production line were investigated, and the quantification of environmental loads and the environmental effects of process water on COD potential were evaluated. The NBDCODs were also analyzed from process water by the method of waste water treatment in paper mill and applied for the optimum use of recycling water, and zero effluent process. In the fibrous raw materials, KOCC caused the highest COD potentials, and sack paper & UKP was comparatively low. The NBDCOD of KOCC largely reduced after biological treatment because of easily biodegradable properties, but AOCC contained non-biodegradable materials. In chemical additives, COD was high in turns of rosin>starch>deaeration agent>dye, NBDCOD greatly reduced in starch and deaeration agent. In the case of 2 kinds of paperboard product, the COD potentials was mainly high in starch, AOCC and KOCC.
To study on the water quality of domestic purifier, twenty four samples of clean water by purifier and the raw water(tap water) were tested for biological and physico-chemical examination and were checked for style of purification and the period elapsed after changing of purification medium. The results were as follows; Biological and physico-chemical findings of raw water were not exceeded standard values. Average number of general bacteria,2.coli and pH in clean water were significantly higher than that of raw water(respectively, p<0.01), but mean contents of turbidity, chloride, nitrate and iron in clean water were significantly lower than that of raw water(respectively, p<0.01). In general count of bacteria and E.coli, a half of the clean water of ceramic filter and roverse osmosis style were exceeded standard values for drinking water. All of the pH of the ion exchange style clean water were exceeded standard values. But other findings were within standard values. In average bacterial counts and physico-chemical findings of clean water by purification style of purifier, clean water of ion exchange style purifier were lowest number of general bacteria and not detected in 2. coli. But other items were highest. The longer period elapsed after changing of purification medium were the higher contents of biological and physico-chemical findings of clean water.
In this paper, in order to eliminate Limnoperna fortunei inhabiting the water conduction pipeline, prechlorination at the intake station was employed to improve the degradation of water quality due to the high pH of raw water taken at the downstream of Paldang Dam, algal growth, etc.. With the prechlorination concentration of 1.0mg/L at the intake station, the pH in the water well at the treatment plant decreased by 0.4, and with 1.5mg/L, by 0.6. Also, it eliminated Chlorophyll-a by about 95%, and the population of algae by about 49%. Such disinfection by-products (DBPs) as Trihalomathanes (THMs), Haloacetic Acids (HAAs), and Chloral Hydrate (CH) were under the quality standard for potable water, showing no change by the prechlorination, while raising the prechlorination rate from 1.0 up to 1.5mg/L, the DBPs in the water well increased by 1.5 to 3.1 times. As a consequence of testing Kyungan Stream, a branch stream flowing into Lake Paldang, the prechlorination (0.57mg/L, 1.14mg/L, 1.71mg/L) had no effect of eliminating the taste and odor compounds and total organic carbon (TOC) which is the DBPs precursor. As for the efficiency of Geosmin elimination by the rates of prechlorination and powder activated carbonation (PAC), it was found that the higher the concentration of PAC was (30ppm>20ppm>10ppm), the higher the efficiency was; the higher the rate of prechlorination was, the lower the efficiency by PAC was. Therefore, when taste and odor occur from raw water, suspending prechlorination at the intake or lowering the rate was proved to be more effective in eliminating the taste and odor compounds by PAC.
