  • The stress concentration ratio in accordance with area replacement ratios were considered as core elements of design. However, the stress concentration ratio will be vary depends on progress of consolidation in clay ground. And, since it is not sure to know the affecting factors accurately, the value is decided based on field experiences. To use SCP method more effective and correspond to soil improvement, the decision on proper area replacement ratio through the exact stress concentration ratio is very important. Accordingly, a numerical analysis on influence of various factors that needed to make rational designing guide for decision of proper area replacement ratio to stress concentration ratio was executed in this study.

  • Materials with specific micro-structural shape can exhibit negative Poisson's ratio. These materials can be widely used in structural applications because of their high resilience and resistance to impact. Specially, in the field of artificial implant's material, they have many potential applications. In this study, we investigated the Poisson's ratio and the ratio(E$_{e}$/E) of the elastic modulus of rotational particle structures based on structural design variables using finite element method. As the ratio of fibril's length to particle's diameter increased and the ratio of fibril's diameter to fibril's length decreased fixing the fibril's angle with 45 degree. the negative Poisson effect of rotational particle structures increased. The ratio of elastic modulus of these structures decreased with Poisson's ratio. The results show the reasonable values as compared with the previous analytical results.s.

  • A new method to improve the efficiency of a hydrogen fuel cell system was introduced by using variable sonic/supersonic ejectors. To obtain the variable area ratio of the nozzle throat to ejector throat which controls the mass flow rate of the suction flow, the ejectors used a movable cylinder inserted into a conventional ejector-diffuser system. Experiments were carried out to understand the flow characteristics inside the variable ejector system. The secondary mass flow rates of subsonic and supersonic ejectors were examined by varying the operating pressure ratio and area ratio. The results showed that the variable sonic/supersonic ejectors could control the recirculation ratio by changing the throat area ratio, and also showed that the recirculation ratio increased fur the variable sonic ejector and decreased for the variable supersonic ejector, as the throat area ratio increases.

  • In this study, construction modulus, void ratio and settlement characteristics of 38 CFRD in domestic and foreign countries were investigated from monitoring data. The effect of field dry density and void ratio to dam body was analyzed. The standard void ratio of CFRD that can be easily used by dam designers and field engineers was proposed from the monitoring data. It was confirmed that we can get the degree of compaction needed for reasonable compaction of dam body by calculating the field dry density from inverse operation of the standard void ratio. It was thought that the void ratio of CFRD depends on shape coefficient and in case of a high shape coefficient, the void ratio was high with its void ratio 0.17 -0.38.

  • Besides the fuel spray behavior and combustion chamber shape. an air motion has a key role on exhaust gas emission and performance in a DI diesel engine. A swirl ratio represents the ratio of the intake swirl velocity to the engine speed. The main purpose in this work is to investigate the effects of the swirl ratio to the combustion characteristics. A shroud valve machined to change the swirl ratio. Test was carry out by changing the engine speed, nozzle diameter and swirl ratio in a single cylinder diesel engine. From this study, the optimized combustion was found at swirl ratio 2.7. And it was also found that the increasing the maximum cylinder pressure with an increasing swirl ratio lead to decrease a smoke and to increase NOx.

  • To cope with quest to improve the fuel economy and vehicle performance, Continuously Variable Transmission with Changing the speed ratio between minimum and maximum ratio by infinite step, is more efficient than conventional multi-ratio transmission. In this paper, to investigate a specific CVT shift ratio diagram and CVT shift characteristics, CVT vehicle was tested on the proving ground and chassis dynamometer. The test results are as follows; CVT can obtain the excellent vehicle performance and fuel economy changing the shift ratio by infinite step, without rapid change of engine revolution and driving force. And CVT can set up a special shift range that obtains not only the engine brake effect but also the maximum speed driving.

  • The isotope ratio of $^{134}Cs/^{137}Cs$ in a spent PWR fuel sample was obtained with a newly developed gamma/neutron combined measuring system at KAERI. Burnup and Pu/U ratio of the spent fuel sample were determined by using the measured isotope ratio and the burnup-isotope ratio correlation equations calculated from the ORIGEN-ARP computer code. The results were compared and evaluated with the chemically determined burnup and Pu/U ratio. As a result of the comparative evaluation, the nondestructively determined burnup and Pu/U ratio values showed a good agreement with the chemically obtained results to within a 4.5% and 0.8% difference, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the window area ratio distribution of building facade in Tokyo metropolitan area. The survey was carried out in Marunouchi, Kanda, Kasai and Todoriki district. The results of this study were as follows; to propose of window area ratio production method, analyzed and surveyed window area ratio of each district building-used and to compared every wall window area ratio of building. Every wall window area ratio of office district is $20\sim40%$, ones of non-office district is 15% or 35%. Residential area results are every wall window area ratio of apartment is 35%, ones of a house is 15%. To increase of office building to appear that Kanda, Kasai added window area ratio. But, Marunouchi, Todoriki wad not this tendency. Above mentioned results are made out database.

  • This study deals with the small sample likelihood based inference for the ratio of two normal variances. The small sample likelihood inference is an approximation method. The signed log-likelihood ratio statistic and the modified signed log-likelihood ratio statistic, which converge to standard normal distribution, are proposed for the normal variance ratio. Through the simulation study, the coverage probabilities of confidence interval and power of the exact, the signed log-likelihood and the modified signed log-likelihood ratio statistic will be compared. A real data example will be provided.

  • The present paper deals with the effective slenderness ratio of telescopic cylinders as a long column having different cross sections. Firstly, the slenderness ratio defined in the current standard for the telescopic cylinders is discussed to point out some difficulties which arise when the ratio is applied to the column having different cross sections. Secondly, a new effective slenderness ratio is proposed for columns having different cross sections by introducing a partial effective slenderness ratio. Finally, the proposed slenderness ratio is applied, for extending and development of discussion, to a two-staged column having piece-wise constant cross sections and a cylindrical column having linearly varying diameters.
