This paper describes on the real-time tracking of ship's dynamic behavior by AIS information in the coastal waters. The AIS data was received at a land station by using the antenna of AIS receiver mounted on the rooftop of the laboratory, Pukyong National University (PKNU), Busan, Korea, and stored as a NMEA format of serial output sentence of VDM(VHF Data-Link Message) and displayed on the ENC(Electronic Navigational Chart) of a PC-based ECDIS. In this study, the AIS receiver was mainly used to obtain the dynamic information that is necessary to evaluate and track the movement situation of training ship "KAYA" of PKNU in the coastal waters. The change of position with time for the ship turning under the rudder angle of port $30^{\circ}$ was correctly tracked with the turning circle of 940 m in diameter on the ENC of a PC-based ECDIS. Then, the dynamic information of the AIS system was updated every 6.29 seconds under the turning situation for the speed of 10.9 knots and every 21.65 seconds under the situation running at the speed of 11.05 knots on the straight line route of $155^{\circ}$, respectively. In case of AIS target tracking in the inshore zone behind large topographical obstructions, such as mountain and apartment buildings, the update rate of dynamic information was irregularly changed by the existence of land obstacles. However, the position tracking by AIS information under the situation existing no sea obstructions was achieved in real or near real-time and the instant presentation of course alternations for the ship was correctly monitored by using a PC-based ECDIS. From these results, we concluded that the PC-based ECDIS technology and methodology combined with the AIS information can be easily extended and applied to the surveillance and management for the fishing operation of fishing vessels in the coastal zone and in the EEZ fishing grounds.
The pedestrian traffic flow has more complicated microscopic features than vehicular traffic flow. Without any designated lanes or any guidance, pedestrians naturally move and change their routes in two dimensional domain with ease. Thus the assessment of pedestrian comfort level should be considering the microscopic features of pedestrian flow. This study is aimed at developing pedestrian comfort criteria based upon pedestrian flow simulation model. This study suggests three criteria to determine pedestrian comfort level; the deviation of route, the acceleration of walk, and the number of collision. Each criterion, which can address the unique walking patterns of pedestrian flow, is represented as each different function with respect to traffic flow rate. The criteria can be the additional indicators to determine the level of service of pedestrian flow together with traffic flow rate and walking speed.
The extrafetal transfer of $Li^{+}$ in amniotic fluid was studied in 45 pregnant rabbits. LiCl solution was administered either intravenously to mother or directly into the amniotic sac and monitored the appearance and disappearance of $Li^{+}$ in the amniotic fluid, then calculated the transfer rate of $Li^{+}$ of extrafetal origin. To study the transplacental $Li^{+}$ transfer, a solution of 150 mM LiCl was infused continuously via maternal vein (initial dose: 0.7 mmol/kg, maintaining dose: 0.03 mmol/kg/min) and the $Li^{+}$ concentration was measured in maternal blood and amniotic fluid after 60 and 120 minutes of infusion. Change in the volume of aminotic fluid was determined by Congo red dilution method at the same time. Effects of duration of gestation was not considered in this study. Extrafetal transport of $Li^{+}$ into the amniotic fluid was estimated by comparing the $Li^{+}$ concentration and volume of amniotic fluid determined before and after ligating the placental vessels. Extrafetal $Li^{+}$ transport from the amniotic fluid was determined by observing the time dependent disappearance of $Li^{+}$ and Congo red in amniotic fluid after injecting 0.5 ml solution of 15 mM or 90 mM LiCl and 50 mg/ml Congo red. Following are the results obtained: 1) During infusion of LiCl through maternal vein the ratio of the aminotic $Li^{+}$/maternal plasma $Li^{+}$ increased significantly along with the increment of fetal weight. 2) The volume of amniotic fluid of larger fetuses than 20.5 gm increased significantly during administration of LiCl while that of smaller fetuses did not change. 3) After umbilical cord ligation the $Li^{+}$ concentration of amniotic fluid of larger fetuses than 20.5 gm was decreased to $59.9{\pm}10.3%$ and $56.9{\pm}42.9%$$(mean{\pm}S.D.)$ of those of control group after 60 and 120 minutes of LiCl infusion respectively. In amniotic fluid of smaller fetuses than 20.5 gm, there was no significant difference between control and ligation groups. 4) The disappearance rate of Congo red in the amniotic fluid was $45.2{\pm}8.2%/hr$. 5) The disappearance rate of $Li^{+}$ after intraamniotic injection of LiCl depended on the amount injected. On injecting $7.5\;{\mu}mol$ LiCl, $Li^{+}$ disappeared rapidly from the amniotic fluid and the rates after 60 min and 90 min were $97.0{\pm}2.8,\;98.5{\pm}2.0%$ respectively. On injecting $45\;{\mu}mol$ LiCl, the rates were $56.0{\pm}15.4,\;78.9{\pm}14.5%$ at 60 and 90 min. 6) From the above results it was concluded: a) $Li^{+}$ transfer into the amniotic fluid increased along with the fetal growth and one half of $Li^{+}$ influx is through the extrafetal route even after the maturation of fetal kidney. b) One half of the $Li^{+}$ transfer from the amniotic fluid was through swallowing of fetus, while the remaining half was transfered rapidly through amniotic membrane, which was concentration limited.

By promoting the international transportation and the improvement of advanced exchange between South and North Korea, the Asian Highway plan was expected to make considerable economical effects in the North-East Asian region. This study focuses on a part of AH6 route (i.e., South Korea-North Korea-China-Far East Russia) and aims to analyze the behavioral change of international passenger transport around the Korean Peninsula by assuming the non-existent North Korea land transport network connectivity. The study was performed using two main methods. First, a stated preference survey was performed to derive the actual modal share of each travel mode. Second, a disaggregate analysis was performed to develop possible mode-choice models for international passenger travel and find out the suitable choice. Based on the results of the model estimation, it is found that over 90% of the international passenger transport would be converted to land transport (rail+highway). In addition, international railroad modal share rate would be increased from 62.8% to 66.1% and international bus would be decreased from 29.6% to 21.9% as the distance lengthened (903km~1,631km).
A large-scale sensor network usually operates in open and unattended environments, hence individual sensor node is vulnerable to various attacks. Therefore, malicious attackers can physically capture sensor nodes and inject false reports into the network easily through compromised nodes. These false reports are forwarded to the base station. The false report injection attack causes not only false alarms, but also the depletion of the restricted energy resources in a battery powered network. The statistical en-route filtering (SEF) mechanism was proposed to detect and drop false reports en route. In SEF, the choice of routing paths largely affect the energy consumption rate and the detecting power of the false report. To sustain the secure routing path, when and how to execute the path re-selection is greatly need by reason of the frequent network topology change and the nodes's limitations. In this paper, the regional path re-selection period determination method is proposed for efficient usage of the limited energy resource. A fuzzy logic system is exploited in order to dynamically determine the path re-selection period and compose the routing path. The simulation results show that up to 50% of the energy is saved by applying the proposed method.
The most popular way to get the animal to be co-operative for the animal experimentation is by using some kinds of general anesthetic agents. One of the most important point to take care of is, however, whether the agent(s) to be used is hinder the experimentation itself. There have been many contradictory reports of the general anesthetic agents on the renal function. Moreover, little information on the changes of the renal function by anesthesia has been available. We have done experiments to clarify and compare the effects of anesthesia induced by several general anesthetic agents on renal function in unanesthetized rabbits. Nembutal anesthesia(30 mg/kg, iv.) caused a decrease in free-water clearance, and increase in sodium and chloride excretion without significance. Thiopental anesthesia$(20{\sim}30\;mg/kg,\;iv.)$ suppressed all renal parameters tested. Chloralose(50 mg/kg, iv.) and chloral hydrate(75 mg/kg, iv.) did not change renal functions except for glomerular filtration rate, which parameter was suppressed only for a short period just after agent administration. Urethane(1 g/kg), administered by the route of either subcutaneously or intraperitoneally, suppressed renal functions lasted for the duration of experimental anesthesia. The above data suggest that it is very important to chose an appropriate anesthetic agents for a given experiment, especially experiment involved with renal function, and to interprete the data obtained from the anesthetized animal model for the expected results.
Purpose: Erythropoietin is traditionally known to regulate erythropoiesis, but recently its protective effect against ischemia-reperfusion injury has been studied mainly in cardiovascular and neuronal systems. This study was planned to investigate the effects of recombinant human erythropoietin on ischemia-reperfusion injury in rat TRAM flap model. Methods: Superiorly based TRAM flap was elevated and ischemic insult was given for four hours. Thirty minutes before reperfusion, single dose recombinant human Erythropoietin(5000IU/kg) was injected via intraperitoneal route in the treatment group. At 24 hours postoperatively, systemic neutrophil count, tissue myeloperoxidase activity, malonyldialdehyde amount, nitric oxide content, tissue water content and histologic finding of inflammation was evaluated. On 10 days postoperatively, flap survival rate, angiogenesis and change in hematocrit level was evaluated. Results: Tissue nitric oxide level was significantly higher and myeloperoxidase activity was significantly lower in the treatment group 24 hours after reperfusion. Tissue water content was significantly lower in the treatment group. Perivascular neutrophil infiltration and intravascular adhesion was marked in the control group. Mean flap survival after ten days was 69% in the treatment group, and 47% in the control group, demonstrating a significant difference. Neovascularization in the treatment group also outnumbered the control group. No significant hematocrit rise was noted ten days after erythropoietin administration. Conclusion: Recombinant human Erythropoietin improved flap survival in ischemia-reperfusion injured rat TRAM flaps, at least partially owing to suppressed inflammation, increased nitric oxide, and enhanced angiogenesis.
In this study, Ant Colony Algorithm(ACO) was used for optimal model. ACO which are metaheuristic algorithm for combinatorial optimization problem are inspired by the fact that ants are able to find the shortest route between their nest and food source. For applying the model to water distribution systems, pipes, tanks(reservoirs), pump construction and pump operation cost were considered as object function and pressure at each node and reservoir level were considered as constraints. Modified model from Ostfeld and Tubaltzev(2008) was verified by applying 2-Looped, Hanoi and Ostfeld's networks. And sensitivity analysis about ant number, number of ants in a best group and pheromone decrease rate was accomplished. After the verification, it was applied to real water network from S water treatment plant. As a result of the analysis, in the Two-looped network, the best design cost was found to $419,000 and in the Hanoi network, the best design cost was calculated to $6,164,384, and in the Ostfeld's network, the best design cost was found to $3,525,096. These are almost equal or better result compared with previous researches. Last, the cost of optimal design for real network, was found for 66 billion dollar that is 8.8 % lower than before. In addition, optimal diameter for aged pipes was found in this study and the 5 of 8 aged pipes were changed the diameter. Through this result, pipe construction cost reduction was found to 11 percent lower than before. And to conclusion, The least cost design model on water distribution system was developed and verified successfully in this study and it will be very useful not only optimal pipe change plan but optimization plan for whole water distribution system.
There is a great deal evidence concerning crustal uplift, after deglaciation, in the vicinity of Syowa Station $(69^{\circ}S,\;39^{\circ}E)$ from tide gauge data, seismic evidence, raised beaches, marine terraces, etc. The geomorphological and tide gauge data show that the crustal uplift is going on around Syowa Station. Seismic observations at Syowa Station started in 1959. Phase readings of the earthquakes have been published by National Institute of Polar Research once a year since 1968, as one of the Data Report Series. Eighteen local earthquakes were detected on short period seismograms at Syowa Station in 1990-2000. The seismicity during the period from 1990 to 2000 was lower than that from 1987 to 1989 when epicenters of local earthquakes were determined by tripartite seismic array. Local earthquake activity corroborates the crustal uplif4 which is an intermittent phenomenon. Sea level falling of 4.5 mm/y was found using data in 1975-1992. This felling rate is consistent with the geomorphological data. A route for repeat leveling survey was established in East Ongul Island. No appreciable change of sea level was observed for the last 14 years. A dynamics of the crustal uplift around Syowa Station has been discussed using geomorphological data, ocean tide, and seismic and leveling data, which is estimated to be an intermittent phenomenon. When local seismic activity is high, the crustal uplift is estimated to be going on. On the contrary, the crustal uplift is in dormancy when the local seismicity is low. Repeated leveling measurements suggest no significant changes, which further supports the idea that the crustal uplift in offshore is not a tilt trend movement but a block movement.
IPTV and VoIP services are considered as killer applications over Mobile WiMAX network, which provideshigh mobility and data rate. Among those which affect the quality of voice in those services, the jitter buffer or playout buffer can compensate the poor voice quality caused by the packet drop due to frequent route change or differences among routes between service endpoints. In this paper, we analyze the correlation between the sleep interval length and jitter buffer size in order to guarantee a predefined level of voice quality. For this purpose, we present an end-to-end delay model considering additional delay incurred by the WiMAX PSC-II sleep mode and a VoIP service quality requirement based on the delay constraints. Through extensive simulation experiments, we also show that the increase of jitter buffer size may degrade the voice quality since it can introduce additional packet drop in the jitter buffer under WiMAX power saving mode.
