The seismic vulnerability of Turkey is relatively high due to its active fault systems with potential to create destructive earthquakes. Thus, reducing the loss of life and property, the number of the earthquake-prone buildings and their retrofit requirements are considerably significant key issues under the scenario earthquakes. The street survey based rapid assessment (SSRA) method can be considered as a powerful tool to determine the seismic vulnerability of building stock of an earthquake-prone city/state. In this study, the seismic vulnerability of the building stock of the Kirikkale province in Turkey is aimed to be estimated adopting the street survey based rapid assessment method (SSRA). For this purpose, central 2074 existing reinforced concrete (R/C) buildings were structurally surveyed with rapid visual site screening and disadvantages such as, the existence of short-column, soft-story, heavy overhangs, pounding effect and local soil conditions were determined for obtaining the structural performance score of each. The results obtained from the study demonstrate that 11-25% of the surveyed buildings in the study region needs to be investigated through more advanced assessment methods. Besides, higher correlation between increasing story number and unsafe/safe building ratio is obtained for the buildings with soft-story parameter than that for those with heavy overhangs and short-column parameters. The conformity of the results of the current study with the previous documented cases of rapid assessment efforts in the recent earthquakes in Turkey shows that the SSRA method for the Kirikkale province performed well, and thus this methodology can be reliably used for similar settlement areas.
Aflatoxins is a chemically diverse group of toxic secondary metabolites that are produced by fungi and often occur in agricultural commodities. Because of their wide range of toxic effects, Aflatoxins cause severe economic losses to farmers and livestock producers and pose a health to human consuming contaminated foods. Long term prospects for biotechnological control of Aflatoxins require elucidation of the specific steps and regulation of their biosynthetic pathways . Aflatoxin determinations can be approached many ways. It is essential to safely handle all experimental materials associated with aflatoxin analysis or aflatoxigenic fungi Visual screening of suspect samples, base on the presence of conidial head of the aspergillus flavus group, and screening samples for the presence of bright greenish yellow flourescence are not chemical tests and such screening techniques may allow aflactoxin contaminated lots into commerce. Microcolumn screening procedures should always be used in conjunction with a quantitative method. Several thin layer chromatography(TLC) and high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) methods are suitable for quantitation and are in general use. Immunochemical Methods such as the ELISA or affinity column chromatography methods are being rapidly developed. The chemical and immunochemical methods can be reliable if care is taken, using suitable controls and personnel that are well trained . All analytical laboratories should stress safety and include suitable analytical validation procedure. Especially a worldwide enquiry was undertaken in recent to obtain up-to-date information about aflatoxin legislation in as many countries of the world as possible. The information concerns aflatoxin in foodstuffs. aflatoxin MI in dairy products, aflatoxins in animal feedstuffs. Limits and regulations for aflatoxin have been expended in recent with more countries having legislation on subject, more products, and more aflatoxins covered by this legislation.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18 are the major causes of cervical lesions and are associated with 71% of cervical cancer cases globally. However, public health infrastructures to support cervical cancer screening may be unavailable to women in low-resource areas. Therefore, sensitive, convenient, and cost-efficient diagnostic methods are required for the detection of HPV16/18. Here, we designed two novel methods, real-time ERA and ERA-LFD, based on enzymatic recombinase amplification (ERA) for quick point-of-care identification of the HPV E6/E7 genes. The entire detection process could be completed within 25 min at a constant low temperature (35-43℃), and the results of the combined methods could be present as the amplification curves or the bands presented on dipsticks and directly interpreted with the naked eye. The ERA assays evaluated using standard plasmids carrying the E6/E7 genes and clinical samples exhibited excellent specificity, as no cross-reaction with other common HPV types was observed. The detection limits of our ERA assays were 100 and 101 copies/µl for HPV16 and 18 respectively, which were comparable to those of the real-time PCR assay. Assessment of the clinical performance of the ERA assays using 114 cervical tissue samples demonstrated that they are highly consistent with real-time PCR, the gold standard for HPV detection. This study demonstrated that ERA-based assays possess excellent sensitivity, specificity, and repeatability for HPV16 and HPV18 detection with great potential to become robust diagnostic tools in local hospitals and field studies.

The potential of the chlorophyll fluorescence technique in screening eleven rice varieties for chill-sensitivity was assessed by measuring the change in the rate of rise of variable fluorescence (FR) and the maximum yield of variable fluorescence, F$\_$VAR/ (F$\_$MAX/-F$\_$0/) after 8 days chilling at 10$^{\circ}C$. The changes in both fluorescence parameters with chilling agreed well with visual assessments of injury carried out at the end of the chilling period. Furthermore, it was found that in the majority of the rice cultivars tested their chilling sensitivity agreed well with the rate of rise of chlorophyll fluorescence (F$\_$R/) measured at 25$^{\circ}C$. The method of chlorophyll fluorescence was rapid, reproducible, sensitive and non-destructive and it should be a valuable new tool in screening large numbers of closely related rice varieties for chilling sensitivity.

Since the 1980s, the number of large space buildings in Korea has consistently been increasing due to large scale international competitions such as the Olympics and the World Cup, demands for environmental improvement, and development of structural systems. Due to these reasons, this paper conducted a comparative analysis on terrorism risk factors of large space structure and skyscrapers in Korea. The results suggest that the total risk level of high-rise and large space structure was "medium level risk" and that the terrorism risk level for large space structure was as high as that for high-rise buildings. As it relates to the risk levels depending on scenarios, terrorism risks to large space structure were higher than high-rise buildings in the "internal explosion" and "internal intrusion" categories. And the results of analyzing explosion-related scenarios except for CBR suggest that terrorism risks to large space structure were highest when it comes to Internal-Explosive followed by Internal-Intrusion and Explosive-Zone I; and the results showed a regular pattern. On the other hand, in the case of high-rise buildings, terrorism risks were highest in Internal-Explosive followed by Explosive-Zone I and Explosive-Zone II; and the results showed an irregular pattern.

Normal soybean seed contains three lipoxygenase isozymes called L-1, L-2, and L-3, respectively, which are responsible for the generation of undesirable grassy-beany flavors. Simple and effective methods for the detection of lipoxygenase isozymes were developed in soybean seeds. Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) has been tried in separating these isozymes. It was done effectively on 7.5% separating gel and 4.5% stacking gel. However, no reliable method has been developed specifically for separating L-3, L-13 and L-23. Visual judging methods were based on the bleaching activities of lipoxygenase in contact with methylene blue and ${\beta}$-carotene. Sodium linoleate bleaching method was adopted to determine L-1 and L-2. Carotene bleaching and spectrophotometric methods were used to determine L-3. These systems were very rapid within one minute, furthermore only required a small piece of cotyledon (below 10 mg) and the other part could be used for generation advance after analysis. It was demonstrated that 200 seed samples could be analyzed per day by one laboratory assistant. The combination of visual judging methods and electrophoresis is suitable for breeding programs. It took 6.5 hours for analysis of 100 seed samples by one person.

A rapid gas chromatographic (GC) profiling method was applied to dairy products (milk and cheeses) for the simultaneous analysis of volatile and nonvolatile organic acids. Cheese samples were first made into aqueous samples by dissolving in water. The aqueous samples were then extracted with organic solvents after the acidification and NaCI saturation. The organic layers (diethyl ether : hexane= 1 : 1) were extracted with $NaHCO_3$ saturated solution with subsequent solid-phase extraction of the aqueous phases using Chromosorb P column/diethyl ether followed by triethylamine treatment. The resulting triethylammonium salts of acids were directly converted into volatile tert.-butyldimethylsilyl derivatives, which were analyzed by dual-capillary column GC, and GC-mass spectrometry. From milk and four cheese samples studied, 31 organic acids including 21 fatty acids and other hydroxy and dioic acids were tentatively identified. The amounts of the fatty acids were different among the kinds of cheese and thus the simplified retention index (RI) spectra of organic acids were useful for the visual pattern recognition of each sample, when the Direct Comparision method between cheese and a blind sample were attempted, it was quickly recognized to be a gouda cheese with the 999 ppt match quality value.
This study was to determine whether DNA 'Comet Assay' can be applied to the detection of grains irradiated with low doses of Co-60 gamma radiation. Sesame, perilla, wheat, barley and rice were exposed to different doses of 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 1.0 kGy. The cells isolated from the samples were embedded in a agarose gel on a microscope slide, lysed in lysis solution, and subjected to electrophoresis. DNA and its fragments migrated in the gel produced the characteristic pattern of DNA comet, of which the tail length was measured in a microscope. All the samples irradiated at 0.3 kGy and higher were applicable to detect post-irradiation by the tail length of their comets. Irradiated samples showed comets with long tails and their tail length increased with the dose, while unirradiated samples showed no or very short tails. Especially, sesame, perilla and wheat irradiated at 0.1 kGy could be distinguished from unirradiated samples by visual inspection of the slide in a microscope. Thus, DNA 'Comet Assay' might be applied to the detection of irradiated grains as a simple, inexpensive and rapid screening test.
