The tension of warp from trawler and sea-floor contact can generate tilt and wake turbulence around otter boards. Preliminary measurements of otter board tilt and 3-D flow velocity during bottom trawl operations were taken using a vector instrument to investigate the effects of wake turbulence at the trailing edge of the otter board. Tilt data (i.e., yaw, pitch, and roll) at 1 Hz and flow data (velocities in the towing, lateral, and vertical directions) at 16 Hz were analyzed to determine their periods and amplitudes using global wavelet and peak event analyses. The mean period (${\pm}standard$ deviation) of the tilt from the peak event analysis ($5{\pm}2s$) was longer or double than that of flow velocity ($3{\pm}2s$). The two periods also had a significant linear relationship. The turbulence rate of flow was 30-50% at the trailing edge and was closely related to roll deviation. The frequency of phase difference ratios (i.e., peak time differences between tilts and flow periods) was significantly different from random occurrence in two trials, possibly due to side tidal effects. However, in the other trials, flow peaks were random, as shown by the even peak times between tilts and flows. Future studies should focus on reducing tilt variation, wake turbulence, and bottom contact to stabilize otter board motion.
Internal waves existing in the stratified ocean significantly affect acoustic propagation. In order to understand the effects of internal waves on acoustic propagation, the sound speed fluctuations due to internal waves are generated based on the Garrett-Munk spectrum which is derived from measured data in the East Sea. The acoustic propagation, where internal waves are present, is simulated numerically using a Galerkin higher order parabolic equation method(SNUPE). These results show favorable comparison to in-situ acoustic propagation data from the East Sea. To investigate the effects of acoustic propagation in random media, scintillation index is adopted and comparison between the measured and numerically simulated data is made.

When the hydrodynamic coefficients of the ship maneuvering equation are estimated by captive model test, it is difficult to take account of the scale effect between model and full scale ship. This scale effect problem can be overcome by processing the sea trial data with system identification. Extended Kalman filter is used as a system identification technique for the modification of the simulation equation as well as the estimation of hydrodynamic coefficients The phenomena of simultaneous drifting of linear coefficients occur. It is confirmed that two coefficients in each pair-$(Y_v',\;Y_r'-m'u'),\;(N_v',\;N_r')$-are simultaneously drifting and all 4 coefficients are drifting together. Particularly simultaneous drifting and 2 coefficients in each pair is more significant. It is also shown that the simultaneous drifting of 4 coefficients can be reduced by choosing the input data which have the random v'/r' curve and 4 coefficients are estimated within $2{\sim}4%$ error, which may be noise level. So, it is recommended to operate the rudder randomly in sea trial or model test for the application of system identification technique.

The phenomenon of wave diffraction due to structure is an important factor in the wave climate at the site As an approximation, the propagation characteristics of a regular wave train are usually used. instead of those of irregular waves. However, there are great differences between the diffraction coefficients of the irregular waves and monochromatic waves, as shown by Goda (1985). The spectral calculation method. one of the methods to deal with the transformation of random sea waves essentially consists of decomposing a spectrum of the irregular sea state Into various monochromatic components, and assembling the component results by linear superposition. Monoch romatic wave transformation model developed by Chen(1987) is used to make spectral calculation. These calculations agree closely with Goda et al. (1978)'s diffraction diagram for a thin semi-infinite breakwater.
Species diversity is one of the most important specifications of biological societies. Diversity of organisms, measurement of variety and examination of those hypotheses that are about reasons of diversity are such as affairs that have been desired by the ecologists for a long time. In this research, diversity of plant species in forest region, numbers of 60 sample plots in 256.00 square meters have been considered in random - systematic inventory was considered. In each sample plot, four micro-plots in 2.25 square meters in order to study on herbal cover, were executed that totally 240 micro-plots were considered. At each plot six diversity indices in relation to physiographic factors (slope, geographical aspect and altitude from the sea level) were studied. The results indicate that species diversity is more in the northern direction and also species diversity in slops less than 30% has the most amounts. Factor of altitude from the sea level did not have meaningful relation with species diversity. Through study on correlation of the numbers of species in sample plots with indices and also process and role of indices in different processors of analysis, Simpson's reciprocal index was suggested as suitable index in this type of studies.

The data of the missing section among the vertex surface sea temperature observation data was imputed using the Bidirectional Recurrent Neural Network(BiRNN). Among artificial intelligence techniques, Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), which are commonly used for time series data, only estimate in the direction of time flow or in the reverse direction to the missing estimation position, so the estimation performance is poor in the long-term missing section. On the other hand, in this study, estimation performance can be improved even for long-term missing data by estimating in both directions before and after the missing section. Also, by using all available data around the observation point (sea surface temperature, temperature, wind field, atmospheric pressure, humidity), the imputation performance was further improved by estimating the imputation data from these correlations together. For performance verification, a statistical model, Multivariate Imputation by Chained Equations (MICE), a machine learning-based Random Forest model, and an RNN model using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) were compared. For imputation of long-term missing for 7 days, the average accuracy of the BiRNN/statistical models is 70.8%/61.2%, respectively, and the average error is 0.28 degrees/0.44 degrees, respectively, so the BiRNN model performs better than other models. By applying a temporal decay factor representing the missing pattern, it is judged that the BiRNN technique has better imputation performance than the existing method as the missing section becomes longer.

Fatigue life is an important consideration for the design of offshore structures in deep sea and in hostile environments. In this paper, the effect of the bandwidth of random stresses on the fatigue life estimation of fixed offshore structures is investigated. The dynamic analysis is carried out in the frequency domain by using the equivalent linearization technique. Fatigue damages are calculated by two stress cycle counting methods; i.e., the narrow band method and the wide band method using rainflow counting technique. Example studies are carried out for two different structures. Numerical results indicate that the wide band approach, which is more complex but theoretically more appropriate pridicts smaller values of fatigue damages compared with those by the narrow band approach for all seastate conditions. Such trend becomes more apparent for the cases of severe seastates where the bandwidth of random stresses becomes large.
This study describes measurements of fast ice recorded on May 23, 2009, in Kongsfjorden (translated as 'Kongs Fjord'), an inlet on the west coast of Spitsbergen in the Svalbard Archipelago. Seasonal fast ice is an important feature for Svalbard fjords, both in relation to their physical environment and also the local ecosystem, since it grows seaward from the coast and remains in place throughout the winter. Ice thickness, snow, ice properties, and wind speed were measured, while SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) data was observed simultaneously observed two times from ALOS-PALSAR (L-band). Measured ice thickness was about 25-35 cm while the thickness of ice floe broken from fast ice was measured as 10-15 cm. Average salinity was 1.9-2.0 ppt during the melting period. Polarimetric data was used to extract H/A/alpha-angle parameters of fast ice, ice floe, snow and glacier, which was classified into 18 classes based on these parameters. It was established that the area of fast ice represents surface scattering which indicates low and medium entropy surface scatters such as Bragg and random surfaces, while fast ice covered with snow belongs to a zone of low entropy surface scattering similar to snow-covered land surfaces. The results of this study will contribute to various interpretations of interrelationships between H/A/alpha parameters and the wave scattering Phenomenon of sea ice.
This article is to estimate the fishing frequency function in Korean recreational fishery with respect to socio-economic characteristics of anglers. First, the study described the characteristics of the entire angler population on the view points of 9 socio-economic variables. And then, the study divided the total angler population into three groups of in-land, sea, and mixed angler populations in order to investigate the differences in their characteristics. The study could confirm the existence of differences in regions, size of regions, and educational levels between the in - land and the sea angler populations by testing heterogeneity in the frequency table. The fishing frequency function is estimated using Poisson regression model in order to accomodate the count data(non-negative discrete random variable) aspects of the fishing frequency. However, the model specification error is found due to overdispersion of data. The model exhibits the lack of goodness of fit. The negative binomial regression model is adopted to cure the overdispersion of the data as an alternative estimation methodology. Finally, the study can confirm overdispersion does not exist in the model any more and the goodness of fit improved significantly to the reasonable level. The results of estimation of fishing frequency population modeled by the negative binomial regression models are following. The three variables of region, sex, and education have effects on the decision making process of fishing frequency in the case of in-land recreation fishery. On the other hand, the three variables of sex, age, and marriage status do the same job in the case of sea angler population. Among the left-over variables, both income and use of Internet variables now affect on the process in mixed angler population. Finally, the results of whole angler population show that all of the previous variables are proven to be statistically significant due to the summation of data with all three sub-groups of angler population.

One of the ways to increase the production for aquaculture is through the cultivation of monosexuals by ensuring genital reversal from which energy for reproduction is diverted towards growth. Masculinization has been identified as one of the most prominent techniques, where sex development was directed from female to male. This approach only altered the phenotype and not the genotype. The red claw crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus) was a relatively new commercial commodity, and the males were known to grow faster than females. Hence, it was proposed to use monocultures comprising an all-male population to increase yield using steroid hormone, synthetic 17α-methyltestosterone. However, this technique generated residues that detrimentally affect human health, the environment, and cultivated organisms. Therefore, finding new safe natural steroid sources was essential, and one of which is exploring of natural hormones extracted from the viscera of sea cucumbers (Holothuria scabra Jaeger). This study focused on the determination of male formation and testosterone levels among juvenile crayfish, after immersing in sea cucumber steroid extract (SCSE). A completely random design with factorial was used with two variables, encompassing the varied doses (0, 2, 4 mg/L, 2 mg/L 17α-methyl testosterone as control group) and immersion times of 18 and 30 h. The result showed the dose-dependent ability of SCSE increase the male genital formation and promote the testosterone level of juvenile crayfish. In addition, the testosterone was influenced by dose and immersion duration time, with the highest level of testosterone observed in treatments of 4 mg/L SCSE with 30 h immersion was 0.248 ng/mL, while the male percentage was 77%. In conclusion, the combination of dose and immersion time significantly affected growth and testosterone levels.
