  • The initial alignment of inertial platform for navigation system was considered. An adaptive filtering technique is developed for the system with unknown and varying sway disturbance. It is assumed that the random sway motion is the second order ARMA(Auto Regressive Moving Average) model and performed parameter identification for unknown parameters. Designed adaptive filter contain both a Kalman filter and a self-tuning filter. This filtering system can automatically adapt to varying environmental conditions. To verify the robustness of the filtering system, the computer simulation was performed with unknown and varying sway disturbance.

  • Interaction between system and disturbance results in system with time-dependent parameter. Parameter variation due to interaction has random characteristics. Most of the randomly varying parameters in control problem is regarded as white noise random process, which is not a realistic model. In real situation those random variation is colored noise random process. Modified F-P-K equation is proposed to get the response of the random parametric system using some correction factor. Proposed technique is employed to obtain the colored noise parametric system response and confirmed via Monte-Carlo Simulation.

  • In ground vehicles, the increasing demand for safety and ride comfort which are trade-off relation, especially at high speeds, has led to the development od actively controlled suspensions. The LQG/LTR controller can be used to design a robust feedback control system that deals with disturbance rejection properties as well as insensitivity to modelling errors and sensor noise. And when the disturbance can not be measured but is limited within a certain frequency range, a bandpass feedback to eliminate the disturbance response can be used. In this paper, hybrid controller cosisted of bandpass feedback controller and LQG/LTR controller is applied to a quarter-car model moving on a randomly profiled road. The random road profile considered as colored noise is shaped from white noise by use of shaping filter. The performance of the hybrid control system is compared with that of an LQG/LTR controlled system.

  • An electro-hydraulic manipulator using hydraulic actuators has many nonlinear elements, and its parameter fluctuations are greater than those of an electrically driven manipulator. So it is quite difficult to obtain stable control performance. We have applied a disturbance estimation and compensation type robust control to all the axes in a 6-link electro-hydraulic manipulator. It was confirmed that the performance of trajectory tracking and attitude regulating was greatly improved by the disturbance observer. For autonomous assembly tasks, it is said that compliance control is one of the most popular methods in contact task. We have proposed a compliance control based on the position control by a disturbance observer for our manipulator system. To realize more stable contact work, the states in the compliance loop are feedbacked, where not only displacement but also the velocity and acceleration are considered. We have also applied this compliance control to the Peg-in-Hole insertion task and proposed new methods of (1)rotating of the end-effector periodically in order to reduce the friction force, (2)random searching for the center of a hole and (3)trajectory modification to reduce the impact force. As a result of these new methods, it could be experimentally confirmed that the Peg-in-Hole insertion task with a clearance of 0.007 [mm] could be achieved.

  • Ramp metering is one of the most efficient and widely used control methods for an intelligent transportation management system on a freeway. Its objective is to control and upgrade freeway traffic by regulating the number of vehicles entering the freeway entrance ramp, in such a way that not only the alleviation of the congestion but also the smoothing of the traffic flow around the desired density level can be achieved for the maintenance of the maximum mainline throughput. When the cycle of the signal detection is larger than that of the system process, the density tracking problem needs to be considered in the form of the discrete-time system. Therefore, a discrete-time sliding mode control method is proposed for the ramp metering problem in the presence of both input constraint in the on-ramp and exogenous disturbance in the off-ramp considering the random behavior of the driver. Simulations were performed using a validated second-order macroscopic traffic flow model in Matlab environment and the simulation results indicate that proposed control method can achieve better performance than previously well-known ALINEA strategy in the sense that mainstream flow throughput is maximized and congestion is alleviated even in the presence of input constraint and exogenous disturbance.

  • This paper propose a position-speed controller with an estimator which can estimate states and disturbance. The overall control system consists of two parts: the position-speed controller and an estimator. The Kalman filter applied as state-feedback controller is an optimal state estimator applied to a dynamic system that involves random perturbations and gives a linear, unbiased and minimum error variance recursive algorithm to optimally estimate the unknown state. Therefore, we consider the error problem about the servo system modeling and the measurement noise as a stochastic system and implement a optimal state observer, and enhance the estimate performance of position and speed using that. Using two-degree-of freedom(TDOF) conception, we design the command input response and the closed loop characteristics independently. The servo system is to improve the closed loop characteristics without affecting the command imput response. The characteristics of the closed loop system is improved by suppressing disturbance torque effectively with the disturbance observer using a inverse-transfer matrix. Therefore, the performance of overall position-speed controller is enhanced. Finally, the performance of the proposed controller is exemplified by some simulations and by applying the real servo system.

  • A dynamic system under random disturbance is considered in the study. In order to control the system efficiently, proper reduction of system dimension is indispensible in design stage. The reduction method using component cost analysis in conjunction with stochastic analysis is proposed for the control of a system. System response is obtained in terms of dynamic moment equation via Fokker-Plank-Kolmogorov(F-P-K) equation. The dynamic moment response of the system under random disturbance are reduced by using of deterministic version of component cost analysis. The reduced system via proposed "stochastic component cost analysis" is successfully implemented for dynamic response and shows remarkable control performance effectively utilizing "stochastic controller" in physical time domain.

  • The semi-active optimal vibration control of nonlinear torsion-bar suspension vehicle systems under random road excitations is an important research subject, and the boundedness of MR dampers and the uncertainty of vehicle systems are necessary to consider. In this paper, the differential equations of motion of the coupling torsion-bar suspension vehicle system with MR damper under random road excitation are derived and then transformed into strongly nonlinear stochastic coupling vibration equations. The dynamical programming equation is derived based on the stochastic dynamical programming principle firstly for the nonlinear stochastic system. The semi-active bounded parametric optimal control law is determined by the programming equation and MR damper dynamics. Then for the uncertain nonlinear stochastic system, the minimax dynamical programming equation is derived based on the minimax stochastic dynamical programming principle. The worst-case disturbances and corresponding semi-active bounded parametric optimal control are obtained from the programming equation under the bounded disturbance constraints and MR damper dynamics. The control strategy for the nonlinear stochastic vibration of the uncertain torsion-bar suspension vehicle system is developed. The good effectiveness of the proposed control is illustrated with numerical results. The control performances for the vehicle system with different bounds of MR damper under different vehicle speeds and random road excitations are discussed.
