Characterisation of Ramie Yarn Treated with Sodium Hydroxide and Crosslinked by 1,2,3,4-Butanetetracarboxylic Acid

  • The microstructure and tensile properties of ramie treated with NaOH and crosslinked with 1, 2, 3, 4-butanetetracarboxylic acid were characterised. X-ray diffraction and FTIR were used to study the crystalline structure o f the resultant ramie yarns. Results showed that the maximum change in the structure of the modified ramie took place at 16% NaOH, which would completely transform Cellulose I to Cellulose II. Also, the crystallinity index and fibre orientation decreased to the minimum value while the absorption properties were enhanced. The average degree of polymerization of the treated ramie yams slightly decreased after NaOH treatment.

  • Recent case series and meta-analyses have suggested that robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE) could be a useful alternative to video-assisted thoracic surgery esophagectomy. The advantages of RAMIE are a 3-dimensional view, 7 degrees of freedom, and tremor filtering, which enable more meticulous lymph node dissection with a lower incidence of complications. However, in radical esophagectomy, understanding the concepts of the fascia and compartment is crucial for successful and reliable dissection. The first RAMIE in Korea was performed by our team in July 2006, and since then, we have developed related techniques to achieve better short- and long-term outcomes. The key step in RAMIE for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is dissection of the upper mediastinum due to the difficulty of lymph node dissection and the high incidence of nodal metastasis in the area. Herein, we describe the technique of fascial plane dissection with esophageal suspension during RAMIE.

A Study on the Dyeing of Ramie Fabric Treated with Medicinal Plants II. The Natural Dyeing On Ramie Fabric Using Artemisiae argyi Herba

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of Artemisiae argyi Herba extract on the treatment of chromaticity and colorfastness. Artemisiae argyi Herba has been used as a Korean medicine. It is effective in removing skin disorders and suppressing pain. It is also good as a fungicide and in treating pruritis. In the long history of Korea, dyeing has been applied for a means representing the grace of natural and inner esthetic consciousness of man. Vegetable dyes give us such great benefits, diversified color; but no pollution. And ramie fabric has distinctive features such as beautiful brilliance, elegance, and strong durability. So, it is regarded as a special product of Korea traditionally. These studies were carried out to treat with acetate iron, dichloride copper and alum with a mordant to ramie fabric. The ramie fabric was died with Artemisiae argyi Herba extract. The results of experiment showed as follows: First, the chromophoric degree was the highest in acetate iron but not distinction in another mordants. Seocond, the light colorfastness was the highest in non treated and dichloride copper, but alum was the lowest. Third, the discoloration was alum and dichloride copper showed first grade in washing colorfastness. Abrasion colorfastness was not significant in this test. According the previous results, Artemisiae argyi Herba has an efficiency in removing skin disorders and suppressing pain. So it is considered that Artemisiae argyi Herba can be applied effectively to theraphy of fungicide and in treating pruritis.

Perilla frutescens Herba has been used as a Korean medicine. It is effective in removing dangerous for an unborn child and suppressing pain. It is also good as a detoxification and in treating cold. Epimedium brevicornum Herba has been used as a Korean medicine. It is effective in sexual excitement, depressant of blood pressure and anti-virus. It is also good as a tonic and in treating involuntary emission of semen. Vegetable dyes give us such great benefits, diversified color, but no pollution. And ramie fabric has distinctive features such as beautiful brilliance, elegance, and strong durability. 저마직물의 펙티나제 정련 시 황산나트륨의 영향 (Effect of Sodium Sulfate on Ramie Fabrics Treated with Pectinase)

  • This study examines the scouring effect of pectinase on ramie fabric and influence of sodium sulfate as an activator for pectinase. The scouring effects were measured by the weight loss and pectin contents. SEM, weight loss, stiffness, moisture regain and dye ability of ramie fabric teated with pectinase/sodium sulfate were also measured. When ramie fabrics were desized with $\alpha$-amylase, the optimum conditions were pH 6.5 at $60^{\circ}C$ for 80 min with 1%(o.w.f) $\alpha$-amylase concentration. When ramie fabrics were scoured with pectinase, the optimum conditions were pH 8.5 at $55^{\circ}C$ for 30 min with 10%(o.w.f) pectinase concentration. Addition of sodium sulfate improved enzyme activity significantly, which increased proportionally with increasing sodium sulfate concentration. When 50 g/l of sodium sulfate was added, the surface became cleaner compared to the enzyme treatment without salt: weight and tensile loss, moisture regain and dyeability of the treated fabrics increased, while pectin contents and stiffness decreased. Therfore, sodium sulfate was effective activator for the pectinase treatment of flax fiber.

모시잎이 고지방-고콜레스테롤 식이 흰쥐의 지질대사 개선 및 항비만 효과에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Ramie Leaves on Improvement of Lipid Metabolism and Antiobesity Effect in Rats Fed a High Fat/High Cholesterol Diet)

  • 본 연구는 모시잎의 혈청, 간 및 지방조직의 체내 지질대사 개선 및 항비만 효과를 살펴보기 위하여 in vivo에서 5주령 된 흰쥐 수컷 24마리를 1주일간 적응시킨 후 정상 식이군(N), 고지방-고콜레스테롤 식이군(HFC), 고지방-고콜레스테롤 식이와 5% 모시잎 분말 첨가군(HFC-RL) 및 고지방-고콜레스테롤 식이와 10% 모시잎 분말 첨가군(HFC-RH)으로 나누어 4주간 실시하였다. 고지방-고콜레스테롤 식이로 인하여 체중이 유의적으로 증가하였으나, 모시잎 분말의 첨가 수준이 증가할수록 체중이 유의하게 감소하였다. 식이섭취량은 대조군(HFC)이 가장 낮았으며, 모시잎 분말 급여로 감소하는 경향이었다. 식이효율은 10% 모시잎 분말첨가로 유의하게 감소하여 정상 식이군(N)의 식이효율 수준과 유사하였다. 장간막지방조직과 부고환지방조직의 무게는 10% 모시잎 분말 첨가로 유의하게 감소하여 정상 식이군(N)보다 오히려 더 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 고지방-고콜레스테롤 식이로 증가되어진 혈청 중 AST, ALT, ALP 및 LDH 활성은 모시잎 분말 급여로 저하되었다. 혈청 중 중성지방 함량과 총콜레스테롤 함량도 고지방-고콜레스테롤 식이 급여로 증가되었으나, 모시잎 분말 첨가에 따라 농도 의존적으로 감소하였다. 고지방-고콜레스테롤 식이로 감소되어진 혈청 중 HDL-콜레스테롤 함량은 모시잎 분말 급여로 모두 유의하게 증가하였으며, 증가되어진 혈청 중 LDL-콜레스테롤 함량은 모두 유의하게 감소하였다. 동맥경화지수와 심혈관위험지수는 5%와 10%의 모시잎 분말 급여로 모두 유의하게 감소하였으며, 특히 10% 모시잎 분말을 급여하였을 경우 감소효과가 커 정상 식이군(N)과 유사한 경향이었다. 간조직 중 중성지방과 총콜레스테롤 함량은 모시잎 분말 급여로 모두 대조군(HFC)에 비하여 유의하게 감소하였다. 장간막지방조직과 부고환 지방조직의 중성지방 및 총콜레스테롤 함량도 모시잎 분말 급여로 유의하게 감소하였다. 지방조직의 HR-LPL과 TE-LPL 활성은 모시잎 분말의 첨가 급여로 농도 의존적으로 유의하게 감소하였다. 이상의 실험 결과 고지방-고콜레스테롤 식이와 함께 급여한 모시잎 분말은 체중, 간 및 지방조직의 무게 감소와 더불어 혈청 및 지방조직의 지질대사 개선에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 모시잎 분말에 다량 함유된 식이섬유소와 클로로필 등의 생리활성 물질이 지질대사를 개선시키고 지방축적을 억제하여 고지혈증의 예방 및 치료효과와 비만을 억제하는 효과를 나타내 대사성 합병률과 심혈관계 질환의 발생을 감소시키는데 효과가 있을 것으로 생각되어진다. 그 외에 어떠한 생리활성 성분이 어떻게 작용을 하는지에 대해서는 추후 더 체계적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

모시잎을 첨가한 죽의 품질 특성 (Quality Characteristics of Gruel Added with Ramie Leaves)

  • 이 연구는 모시잎을 죽에 첨가함으로서 모시잎의 최적 첨가량을 결정하고 모시잎 첨가 죽에 기초자료를 제공하는데 연구 목적이 있다. 모시잎을 동결 건조하여 분말로 가공한 후, 첨가량을 달리하여(0, 2, 4, 6, 8%) 죽을 제조한 후 품질특성으로 기계적 특성과 관능검사를 실시하였다. 모시잎 분말의 일반성분은 수분함량 5.37%, 조단백질 27.10%, 조지방 5.99%, 조회분 14.37%, 탄수화물은 47.17%로 나타났다. 모시잎의 첨가량을 달리하여 제조한 모시잎죽의 고형분 함량은 모시잎의 첨가량이 증가할수록 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. pH는 모시잎의 첨가량이 증가할수록 첨가량에 따른 유의적 차이를 보이며 증가하였다. 색도 측정 결과 명도와 적색도는 모시잎의 첨가량이 증가할수록 감소하였고, 황색도는 모시잎의 첨가량이 증가할수록 증가하였다. 죽의 점도는 모시잎의 첨가량이 증가할수록 유의적으로 감소하였고, 퍼짐성은 모시잎의 첨가량이 증가할수록 점차적으로 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 기호도 검사 결과에서 색(color)은 모시잎 6% 첨가군이 가장 높게 평가되었고, 향(flavor)은 무첨가군에 비해 모시잎 첨가군에서 높은 기호도를 보였으나, 8% 첨가군은 오히려 기호도가 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 맛(taste)과 점도(viscosity)는 6% 첨가군이 가장 높게 평가되었다. 전체적인 기호도(overall-acceptability)는 6% 첨가군이 가장 높게 평가되었으며 6%> 4%> 8%> 2%> 0% 첨가군 순으로 높은 기호도를 보였다. 위의 결과로부터 모시잎을 첨가한 죽을 제조시 모시잎을 6% 정도 수준에서 첨가한다면 죽의 기호도를 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

포도당 환원을 이용한 천연 인디고 염색 (Natural Indigo Dyeing by Using Glucose Reduction)

  • Dyeing process of the natural indigo powder onto ramie and silk fabrics was investigated by using glucose and calcium hydroxide as a reducing system. Effect of reduction and dyeing conditions such as temperature and time of reduction/dyeing, and concentrations of glucose and calcium hydroxide on the dyeing process were explored. Indigo powder was obtained by drying the conventional niram paste in an oven at $50^{\circ}C$. Color strength of the dyed fabrics was evaluated by K/S value measured at the wavelength of maximum absorption(${\lamda}$max). Munsell color coordinates(H V/C) were used to compare fabric colors of ramie and silk. Ramie fabric showed purple-blue color for all the temperature and time. On the contrary, silk fabric showed wide range of color including brown, brown-green, green at the different temperature. With the increase of K/S value, the coordinate of value(lightness) decreased for both of ramie and silk fabrics. The coordinate of hue(shade) changed drastically with the increase of K/S value for silk fabric, compared with that of ramie fabric which showed nearly constant value at the whole range of K/S value. Optimum concentrations of calcium hydroxide were for 6 g/L for ramie and 4 g/L for silk at $60^{\circ}C$ and 50 min. K/S value increased with the indigo concentration. Maximum K/S value was shown at $10{\sim}12$ g/L of glucose concentration. For both of ramie and silk fabrics, the colorfastness of washing and light was lower than that of rubbing. All the colorfastness values were improved with the increase of color strength.
