DARTS(The dynamic analysis of a rail track structure)를 사용하였다.

  • Rolling noise is an important source of noise from railways; it is caused by wheel and rail vibrations induced by acoustic roughness at the wheel/rail contact. To reduce rolling noise, it is necessary to have a reliable prediction model that can be used to investigate the effects of various parameters related to the rolling noise. This paper deals with modeling rolling noise from wheel and rail vibrations. In this study, the track is modeled as a discretely supported beam by regarding concrete slab tracks, and the wheel vibration is simulated by using the finite element method. The vertical and lateral wheel/rail contact forces are modeled using the linearized Hertzian contact theory, and then the vibration responses of the wheel and rail are calculated to predict the radiated noise. To validate the proposed model, a field measurement was carried out for a test vehicle. It was found that the predicted result agrees well with the measured one, showing similar behavior in the frequency range between 200 and 4000 Hz where the rolling noise is prominent.

  • In this study, to examine the causes of cracks in continuously reinforced concrete tracks (CRCTs) and the main factors affecting cracking, a field survey on the status of cracks and crack patterns in the Gyeong-bu high speed line was conducted, and the crack patterns of CRCT due to the temperature difference between the top of the slab (TCL) and the bottom of the subbase (HSB) and the drying shrinkage of concrete were predicted by a nonlinear finite element model considering the structure of CRCT. The results of the numerical analysis show that cracks will be developed at the interface between the sleeper and the TCL, and under the sleeper due to the temperature difference and concrete shrinkage. This corresponds well to the crack locations found in the field. Also, it is found that the most significant factors are the coefficient of thermal expansion with respect to the temperature difference, and the drying shrinkage strain with respect to shrinkage. According to the results, the reinforcement ratio should be carefully determined considering the structures of CRCT because the crack spacing is not always proportional to the reinforcement ratio due to the sleepers embedded in the TCL.

  • Stability analysis was conducted to analyze the application of pile-supported embankment to concrete slab track on the soft ground in Korea. Pile efficiency and tension of geosynthetics in accordance with the hight of embankment and the depth of soft soil were carried out by theoretical and numerical methods. Theoretical method predicted more conservatively than the numerical method for all the cases presented herein. The settlement stability is satisfied to allowable criteria of high speed railway in Korea. The pile-supported embankment has great potential for application to soft ground condition.

  • Alignments of railways recently constructed in Korea have been straightened due to the advent of high-speed rail, which means increasing the numbers of tunnels and bridges. Overbreak during tunnel construction may be unavoidable, and is very influential on overall stability. Over-excavation in tunneling is also one of the most important factors in construction costs. Overbreak problems around crown areas have decreased with improvements of excavation methods, but overbreak problems around bottom areas have not decreased because those areas are not very influential on tunnel stability compared with crown areas. The filling costs of 10 cm thickness of overbreak at the bottom of a tunnel are covered under construction costs by Korea Railway Authority regulations, but filling costs for more than the covered thickness are considered losses of construction cost. The filling material for overbreak bottoms of tunnels should be concrete, but concrete and mixed granular materials with fractured rock are also used for some sites. Tunnels in which granular materials with fractured rock are used may have a discontinuous section under the concrete slab track. The discontinuous section influences the propagation of waves generated from train operation. When the bottom of a tunnel is filled with only concrete material, the bottom of the tunnel can be considered as a continuous section, in which the waves generated from a train may propagate without reflection waves. However, a discontinuous section filled with mixed granular materials may reflect waves, which can cause resonance of vibration. The filled materials and vibration propagation characteristics are studied in this research. Tunnel bottom filling materials that have ratios of granular material to concrete of 5.0 %, 11.5 %, and 18.0 % are investigated. Samples were made and tested to determine their material properties. Static numerical analyses were performed using the FEM program under train operation load; test results were found to satisfy the stability requirements. However, dynamic analysis results show that some mixed ratios may generate resonance vibration from train operation at certain speeds.
