In this paper, a method of Radome design is considered. The shape is similar to tangent-ogive, and the antenna is a waveguide broad-wall slot array antenna. The characteristic of the Radome material is obtained by measuring test samples. By analyzing the transmission efficiency of the flat plate, Radome wall thickness is determined firstly. And then, the detailed characteristics of the Radome are analyzed by using GO-PO approximation technique. Several simple parameters of the designed Radome are tested and compared with the simulation results.

An SIW cavity is a useful tool to design an FSS which shows a rapid roll-off rate and insensitivity to polarizations and incident angles of electromagnetic waves. However, due to its high Q-factor, the FSS also shows narrow bandwidth which is undesirable for high-capacity communication. To address this drawback, we propose a novel technique to enhance the bandwidth while maintaining similar frequency response characteristics and minimizing the increase of the overall thickness of the SIW cavity FSS. In order to verify the performance of the technique, simulated frequency responses will be provided. Also, a parameter which affects the bandwidth will be studied. Finally the stability to polarizations and incident angles will be observed through the simulated results.

This paper introduces new wideband antenna-filter-antenna (AFA) uniform arrays that can be utilized as frequency selective surfaces (FSS) with low loss and sharp roll-off response, which are highly desirable characteristics for millimeter wave applications. The design adopts a simple 3-layer single polarization structure consisting of two patch antennas and a resonator. Both simulations and measurements are used to characterize the performances of the proposed design. Overall results show 18.5% 10-dB bandwidth. For the targeted band the insertion loss is less than 0.2 dB. Possible applications include quasi-optical amps, grid mixers and radomes for aircraft radar antennas.

The knowledge of interaction of electromagnetic waves in composite structures is important for designing the shielding structure for antenna such as radome. Recently, radomes are constructed in the form of foam core sandwich structures that have many mechanical advantages such as high strength, long fatigue life, low density and adaptability to the intended function of structure. However, the propagation of electromagnetic waves is affected by high anisotropic permeability and loss tangent of the composite skin. In this study, the analytical model to understand the propagation of electromagnetic waves in the anisotropic composites and foam core sandwich structures with composite skins was proposed. Numerical analyses of unidirectional composites and foam core sandwich structure as a function of incident angle were performed. From the results of analysis, the general tendencies of transmittance of electromagnetic wave through composites and foam core sandwich structure were obtained.
In this paper, RCS characteristics on defect pattern of crossed dipole slot FSS having a finite size have been analyzed. To analyze RCS, we applied the electric field integral equation analysis which applies BiCGSTab algorithm with iterative method and uses RWG basis function. To verify the validity of this paper, RCS of PEC sphere has been compared to the theoretical results and FSSs with defect patterns are fabricated and measured. As defect patterns in FSS, missing one column, missing some elements, and discontinuity in surfaces are simulated and compared with the measurement results. Resonant frequency shifts in pass band and changes in bandwidth are observed. From the results, precisely predicting and designing frequency characteristics over defect patterns are essential when applying FSS structures such as FSS radomes.

In this study, the insertion loss and phase delay according to the multi-layer structure radome parameters were analyzed using the boundary value solution approach, and the multi-layer structure and hexa mesh structures with low-loss electrical characteristics for the Ku-band transmission/reception frequency of 10.7 ~ 14.5 GHz were designed and manufactured. A hexa mesh was applied to minimize radio wave transmission and scattering, which lowered the transmittance refractive index according to the radio incident angle and minimized dielectric loss through high-density foam. Similar to the simulation result, the transmission loss obtained the gain in a specific receiving frequency band, and in the transmission frequency band, an excellent low loss characteristic was obtained with an insertion loss of 0.8dB or less. The results of this study can be used in radio transmission radomes of low-weight, low-cost end-system protection devices.

This paper deals with the impact of a GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) antenna radome on the PCV (Phase Center Variations) and the estimated kinematic coordinates. For the Trimble and Leica antennas, specially set up CORS (Continuously Operation Reference Stations) in Korea, the PCC (Phase Center Corrections) were calculated and compared for NONE, SCIS, SCIT, and TZGD radome from the PCV model published by the IGS (International GNSS Services). The results revealed that the PCC differences compared to the NONE were limited to about 1mm in the horizontal component while those of the vertical direction ranged from a few millimeters to a maximum of 7mm. Among the radomes of which PCV were compared, the SCIT had the most significant influence on the vertical component, and its GPS (Global Positioning System) L2 and L2 PCC (Phase Center Corrections) had opposite direction. As a result of comparing the kinematic coordinates estimated by the baseline processing of 7 CORSs with an application of the PCV models of the various radomes, the SCIS which was actually installed at CORS in Korea showed 3.4mm bias, the most substantial impact on the ellipsoidal height estimation whereas the SCIT model resulted in relatively small biases.

Silicon nitride ($Si_3N_4$) is regarded as one of the most promising materials for high temperature structural applications due to its excellent mechanical properties at both room and elevated temperatures. However, one high-temperature $Si_3N_4$ material intended for use in radomes has a relatively high dielectric constant of 7.9 - 8.2 at 8 - 10 GHz. In order to reduce the dielectric constant of the $Si_3N_4$, an in-situ reaction process was used to fabricate $Si_3N_4-SiO_2$-BN composites. In the present study, an in-situ reaction between $B_2O_3$ and $Si_3N_4$, with or without addition of BN in the starting powder mixture, was used to form the composite. The in-situ reaction process resulted in the uniform distribution of the constituents making up the composite ceramic, and resulted in good flexural strength and dielectric constant. The composite was produced by pressure-less sintering and hot-pressing at $1650^{\circ}C$ in a nitrogen atmosphere. Microstructure, flexural strength, and dielectric properties of the composites were evaluated with respect to their compositions and sintering processes. The highest flexural strength (193 MPa) and lowest dielectric constant (5.4) was obtained for the hot-pressed composites. The strength of these $Si_3N_4-SiO_2$-BN composites decreased with increasing BN content.

The design procedure as well as some test results of a low-cost commercial radome for mobile DBS(Direct Broadcasting Satellite) receiving antenna system are presented in this paper. At first the complex permittivity of dielectric material should be measured in order to select a material for radome design. The complex permittivities of low-cost plastics supplied by domestic vendors are measured and presented. And then the transmission losses of the sheets are calculated. The calculated results are verified by the measurements of wave transmission test of that sheets. Two kinds of radomes, ABS single-layer and A-Sandwich((PET-Foam-ABS), are fabricated and measured practically. The transmission losses of single-layer and A-sandwich radome are 1.5dB and 0.6dB respectively at the maximum wave incident angle of 57 degree. Also the calculated crosspolarization caused by A-sandwich radome is under 20dB.
Purpose: This paper analyzes the phenomenon on the degradation of the electrical performance by the pressure in the manufacturing process of sandwich type radomes. Methods: This paper consists of two steps to analyze the relation between the electrical performance and the pressure. First, the thickness of the core of the flat panels which were fabricated with different pressure was measured with the microscope, and then the electrical performance of the flat panels was analyzed with simulation and experiment. Based on the results of the electrical performance and the measured thickness with respect to the flat panels, the relation between the electrical performance and the applied pressure in the manufacturing process was analyzed. Results: The simulated and measured results with respect to the flat panel shows that the high pressure results in the nonuniform thickness of the core, which is applied to the radome fabrication. As a result, the degradation of the electrical performance occurs because the unintended scattered field is generated as the electromagnetic wave transmits (or impinges upon) the radome. Furthermore, we observed that the electrical performance of both the flat panel and the radome got worse as the high pressure was applied. Conclusion: Through simulation and experiment, therefore, it is demonstrated that for the high pressure in the manufacturing process the nonuniform thickness of the core increases and results in the degradation of the electrical performance of the radome.
