The knuckle crane design in Korea has been performed by assuming a cantilever beam type structure and numerically analyzing design data and finally improving the stiffness by replacing material. In our study, a complete finite element model of the knuckle crane is constructed and finite element analysis is conducted using Optistruct. Structural optimization to reduce the weight of the knuckle crane is processed by applying maximum loading condition at the largest radius of motion, which is the worst case of loading condition. As the results, existing over stiff design in a knuckle crane is corrected to meet a desired design limit and overall weight is reduced, which eventually leads to a reduction of $CO_2$ emission.

In this paper, we propose a support vector machine (SVM) hyper and kernel parameter optimization method which is based on minimizing radius/margin bound which is a kind of estimation of leave-one-error. This method uses dynamic encoding algorithm for search (DEAS) and gradient information for better optimization performance. DEAS is a recently proposed optimization algorithm which is based on variable length binary encoding method. This method has less computation time than genetic algorithm (GA) based and grid search based methods and better performance on finding global optimal value than gradient based methods. It is very efficient in practical applications. Hand-written letter data of MNI steel are used to evaluate the performance.
The cooling stage is the very critical and most time consuming stage of the injection molding process, thus it cleary affects both the productivity and the part quality. Even through there are several commercialized package programs available in the injection molding industry to analyze the cooling performance of the injection molding coling stage, optimization of the cooling system has npt yet been accomplished in the literature due to the difficulty in the sensitivity analysis. However, it would be greatly desirable for the mold cooling system designers to have a computer aided design system for the cooling stage. With this in mind, the present study has successfully developed an interated computer aided design system for the injection molding cooling system. The CAD system utilizes the sensitivity analysis via a Boundary Element Method, which we recently developed, and the well-known CONMIN alforuthm as an optimization technique to minimize a weighted combination (objective function) of the temperature non-uniformity over the part surface and the cooling time related to the productivity with side constranits for the design reality. In the proposed objective function , the weighting parameter between the temperature non-uniiformity abd the cooling time can be adjusted according to user's interest. In this cooling system optimization, various design variable are considered as follows : (i) (design variables related to processing conditions) inlet coolant bulk temperature and volumetric flow rate of each cooling channel, and (ii) (design variables related to mold cooling system design) radius and location of each cooling channel. For this optimum design problem, three different radius and location of each cooling channel. For this optimum design problem, three different strategies are suffested based upon the nature of design variables. Three sample problems were successfully solved to demonstrated the efficiency and the usefulness of the CAD system.
In this paper, the single and multi-objective optimization of thin-walled conical tubes with different types of indentations under axial impact has been investigated using surrogate models called metamodels. The geometry of tapered thin-walled tubes has been studied in order to achieve maximum specific energy absorption (SEA) and minimum peak crushing force (PCF). The height, radius, thickness, tapered angle of the tube, and the radius of indentation have been considered as design variables. Based on the design of experiments (DOE) method, the generated sample points are computed using the explicit finite element code. Different surrogate models including Kriging, Feed Forward Neural Network (FNN), Radial Basis Neural Network (RNN), and Response Surface Modelling (RSM) comprised to evaluate the appropriation of such models. The comparison study between surrogate models and the exploration of indentation shapes have been provided. The obtained results show that the RNN method has the minimum mean squared error (MSE) in training points compared to the other methods. Meanwhile, optimization based on surrogate models with lower values of MSE does not provide optimum results. The RNN method demonstrates a lower crashworthiness performance (with a lower value of 125.7% for SEA and a higher value of 56.8% for PCF) in comparison to RSM with an error order of $10^{-3}$. The SEA values can be increased by 17.6% and PCF values can be decreased by 24.63% by different types of indentation. In a specific geometry, higher SEA and lower PCF require triangular and circular shapes of indentation, respectively.
Statement of problem: The researches on the influence of design variables on the stress distribution in cortical and trabecular bones and on optimal design for implant system were limited. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the sensitivities of design parameters and to suggest the optimal parameters for designing the onebody type implant system. Material and methods: Stresses arising in the implant system were obtained by finite element analysis using a three dimensional model. An onebody type implant system[Oneplant (Warrantec. Co. Ltd., Korea)] was considered in this study. Vortical load(150 N) was applied on the top of the abutment along the axial direction. The initial design variables set for sensitivity analysis were radius of fixture, numbers of micro thread, numbers of power thread, height of micro thread, future length, tapered angle of future, inclined angle of thread, width of micro thread and width of power thread. The statistical technique of Design of Experiments(DOE) was applied tn the simulation model to deduce effective design parameters on stress distributions in bones. The deduced design parameters were incorporated into a fully automated design tool which is coupled with the finite element analysis and numerical optimization to determine the optimal design parameters. Results: 1. The result of sensitivity analysis showed six design variables - radius of future, tapered angle of fixture, inclined angle of thread, numbers of power thread, numbers of micro thread and height of micro thread - were more influential than the others. 2. The optimal values of design variables can be deduced by coupling finite element analysis (FEA) and design optimization tool(DOT).
A procedure of stress and strength analysis has been proposed for the centrifuge rotor of composite materials of quasi-isotropic laminates. The goal in this study is to maximize the allowable rotating speed, that is, to minimize maximum strength ratio with the given path length by changing the geometric parameter-outer radius and ply angles in quasi-isotropic laminates. Optimum values of the geometric parameter-outer radius and ply angles are obtained by multilevel optimization. All the geometric dimensions and stresses are normalized such that the result can be extended to a general case. Two dimensional analysis at each cross section with an elliptic tube hole subjected to internal hydrostatic pressures by samples as well as the centrifugal body forces has been performed along the height to calculate the stress distribution with the plane stress assumption, and Tsai-Wu failure criterion is used to calculate the strength ratio. The maximum allowable rotating speed can be increased by changing the radii of the outer surface along the height with the maximum strength ratio under the unit value : The optimal number of ply angles maximizing the allowable rotating speed in quasi-isotropic laminates is found to be the half number of tube hole, and the optimal laminate rotation angle is the half of $[{\pi}/m]$. A $[{\pi}/3]$ laminate, for instance, is stronger than a $[{\pi}/4]$ laminate for the centrifuge rotor of 6 tube hole number even though they have the same stiffness.
A new method for optimizing the magnetic field gradient in the exciting coil of electronic anti-fouling (EAF) system is presented based on changing exciting coil size. In the proposed method, two optimization expressions are deduced based on biot-savart law. The optimization expressions, which can describe the distribution of the magnetic field gradient in the coil, are the function of coil radius and coil length. These optimization expressions can be used to obtain an accurate coil size if the magnetic field gradient on a certain point on the coil's axis of symmetry is needed to be the maximum value. Comparing with the experimental results and the computation results using Finite Element Method simulation to the magnetic field gradient on the coil's axis of symmetry, the computation results obtained by the optimization expression in this article can fit the experimental results and the Finite Element Method results very well. This new method can optimize the EAF system's anti-fouling performance based on improving the magnetic field gradient distribution in the exciting coil.
This paper presents the response surface optimization method using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis to optimize the shape of a forward-curved blades centrifugal fan. For numerical analysis, Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model are discretized with finite volume approximations. In order to reduce huge computing time due to a large number of blades in forward-curved blades centrifugal fan, the flow inside of the fan is regarded as steady flow by introducing the impeller force models. Three geometric variables, i.e., location of cut off, radius of cut off, and width of impeller, and one operating variable, i.e., flow rate, were selected as design variables. As a main result of the optimization, the efficiency was successfully improved. And, optimum design flow rate was found by using flow rate as one of design variables. It was found that the optimization process provides reliable design of this kind of fans with reasonable computing time.
