  • In this paper, we designed a microstrip patch antenna that can be applied to the Wimax/LTE 5G system among wireless media usable in coastal ships. The substrate of the proposed antenna is FR-4 (er=4.3), the size is 22 mm × 30 mm, and it can be used in the 3.5 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands of Wimax/LTE 5G by constructing a simple structure using a microstrip patch antenna. CST Microwave Studio 2014 was used for simulation, and the gain of the simulation result is 2.41dB at 2.4 GHz and 3.96 dB at 3.5 GHz. S-Parameter also showed a result of less than -10 dB (VSWR 2:1) in the desired frequency band, and designed a small variable and a miniaturized antenna so that the antenna can be used in mobile phones or electronic devices.

  • In this paper, the design method for a high-sensitivity compact resonator for chipless RFID tags is proposed. Proposed high-sensitivity compact resonator uses an interdigital-capacitor structure instead of a capacitor-shaped strip structure in a conventional ELC resonator. The length of the electrode plate of the IDC structure is longer than that of the conventional capacitor-shaped structure, resulting in a larger equivalent capacitance of the resonator. This can lower the resonant peak frequency of the RCS characteristic. Two resonators with the same length of the square loop and the width of the strip are fabricated on an RF-301 substrate with a thickness of 0.8 mm. The experiment results show that the resonant peak frequency and value of the bistatic RCS for the ELC resonator were 4.305 GHz and -30.39 dBsm, whereas those of the proposed IDC resonator were 3.295 GHz and -36.91 dBsm. Therefore, the size of the resonator is reduced by 23.5% based on the measured resonant peak frequency of the RCS characteristic.

  • In this paper, the design method for a chipless RFID tag using ELC resonators is proposed. A four-bit chipless RFID tag is designed in a two by two array configuration using three ELC resonators with different resonant peak frequencies and one compact IDC resonator. The resonant peak frequency of the bistatic RCS for the IDC resonator is 3.125 GHz, whereas those of the three ELC resonators are adjusted to be at 4.225 GHz, 4.825 GHz, and 5.240 GHz, respectively, by using the gap between the capacitor-shaped strips in the ELC resonator. The spacing between the resonators is 1 mm. Proposed four-bit tag is fabricated on an RF-301 substrate with dimensions of 50 mm×20 mm and a thickness of 0.8 mm. It is observed from experiment results that the resonant peak frequencies of the fabricated four-bit chipless RFID tag are 3.290 GHz, 4.295 GHz, 4.835 GHz, and 5.230 GHz, respectively, which is similar to the simulation results with errors in the range between -2.3% and 0.2%.

  • In this paper, the design method of a miniaturized chipless RFID tag using a modified bent H-shaped slot was proposed. The proposed modified bent H-shaped slot was appended on the rectangular conductor plate printed on one side of a 20 mm × 50 mm FR4 substrate with a thickness of 0.8 mm. The resonant dip frequency of the bistatic RCS for the proposed modified bent H-shaped slot was compared with the cases when the H-shaped, U-shaped slot, and bent H-shaped slots were added, respectively, on the conductor plate. The simulated resonant dip frequencies for H-shaped, U-shaped, and bent H-shaped slots were 5.907 GHz, 4.918 GHz, and 4.364 GHz, respectively. When the proposed modified bent H-shaped slot was added, the resonant dip frequency was decreased to 3.741 GHz, and, therefore, the slot length was reduced by 36.7% compared to the H-shaped slot case. Experiment results show that the resonant dip frequency of the fabricated modified bent H-shaped slot was 3.9 GHz.

  • Recently, the Machine Learning based Artificial Intelligence has introduced in aviation field. In most cases, safety assurance of aviation software is achieved by applying RTCA DO-178C or DO-278A or similar standards. These standards were developed for and are well-suited to software that has inherent deterministic properties and explainability. Considering the characteristics of AI software based on ML, it is not feasible to assure the integrity of those new aviation systems using traditional software assurance standards mentioned above. In this paper, we research the certification framework that is newly suggested by EASA to deal with the aviation system including ML AI functions, and discuss what should the Korean authority and related industries prepare to cope with this issue.

  • GNSS signal is vulnerable to jamming signal because of well-known signal structure and weak signal power. For these reasons, the need for analysis of jamming effects and anti-jamming techniques of is increasing. In this paper, a GNSS signal generator is designed which includes a radio wave propagation model for six kind of tactical environments and a body masking model for the reception environment of a vehicle. The radio wave propagation model for downtown, rural, forest, coastline, waste land and snow or ice area is designed using two-ray model. The body masking model is designed the effect which the antenna is affected by the reception environment of a vehicle and radiation pattern from a user configuration. The performance of generated signals from the GNSS signal generator considering reception environment of a vehicle is evaluated by a commercial GPS L1 receiver(NordNav) in normal and jamming environment. Also, the generated GNSS signal is compared to a commercial GPS L1 H/W based RF signal generator(STR4500). The results show that the designed GNSS signal generator in a normal environment compared to the same navigation performance. In jamming environment, it is shown that the body masking effect and GNSS signal acquisition and tracking loss in compliance with the jamming signal are precisely working in the reception environment of a vehicle.

  • The goals of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) that initiated by the IMO and supported by IALA, IHO, ITU, IEC and manufacturers are to provide more effective and efficient emergency and safety communications and disseminate Maritime Safety Information (MSI) to all ships on the world's oceans regardless of location or atmospheric conditions. Much of the GMDSS is built on technologies more than 20 years old; some work well; others do not. While GMDSS requirements apply only to SOLAS vessels, there are many other vessels on the water. So some considerations are necessary for non-SOLAS vessels including fishing ships, leisure boats and small boats. This paper describes the analysis of IMO, ITU and IEC meeting results held on recently. Also it gives the trends of the international marine radio standards and its technologies.
