We present results of a calibrator search near twenty evolved stars using the Korean VLBI Network (KVN). Our evolved star targets include candidate sources for a Key Science Project (KSP) of the KVN. The KSP plans to investigate the spatial structure and dynamical effects between SiO and H2O maser regions including mass-loss process and development of asymmetry in circumstellar envelopes of evolved stars. For these purposes, we need compact and strong extragalactic sources close to the evolved stars. We carried out 5 observations in order to detect radio continuum sources that can be used for source frequency phase-referencing (SFPR) -based analysis. We observed 153 sources, out of which we detected 29 at 22 GHz and 20 at 43 GHz at signal-to-noise ratios higher than 50 at all baselines. Therefore, we successfully found target and calibrator pairs for the KVN KSP.
In this study, we report oscillations of the total intensity of white light loops in the off-limb solar flare observed in 2017-Sep-10 with the SDO/HMI. The total intensity oscillations are correlated with the area of the flaring loop in the plane of the sky. The oscillatory pattern is well fitted by two consecutive damped oscillations. The period and damping time of the first oscillation are 12.9 minutes and 9.9 minutes, respectively. Those of the second oscillation are 11.7 minutes and 15.4 minutes. The excitation of the oscillations coincides with two consecutive type III radio bursts observed in meter range. Assuming the oscillations are magnetoacoustic waves in the flaring loops with the loop lengths ranging from 30 to 90 Mm, the temperature of the white light emitting loops could be in the range from 0.3 MK to 2.6 MK.

We present a multi-wavelength observational study of a low-mass star-forming region, L1251-C, with observational results at wavelengths from the near-infrared to the millimeter. Spitzer Space Telescope observations confirmed that IRAS 22343+7501 is a small group of protostellar objects. The extended emission to east-west direction with its intensity peak at the center of L1251A has been detected at 350 and 850 mm with the CSO and JCMT telescopes, tracing dense envelope materials around L1251A. The single-dish data from the KVN and TRAO telescopes show inconsistencies between the intensity peaks of several molecular line emission and that of the continuum emission, suggesting complex distributions of molecular abundances around L1251A. The SMA interferometer data, however, show intensity peaks of CO 2-1 and $^{13}CO$ 2-1 located at the position of IRS 1, which is both the brightest source in IRAC image and the weakest source in the 1.3 mm dust continuum map. IRS 1 is the strongest candidate for being the driving source of a newly detected the compact CO 2-1 outflow. Over the whole region ($14^{\prime}{\times}14^{\prime}$) of L125l-C, 3 Class I and 16 Class II sources have been detected, including three YSOs in L1251A. A comparison with the average projected distance among 19 YSOs in L1251-C and that among 3 YSOs in L1251A suggests L1251-C is an example of low-mass cluster formation, where protostellar objects are forming in a small group.
We have carried out simultaneous 22GHz $H_2O$ and 44GHz Class I $CH_3OH$ maser survey of 112 ultra-compact HII regions (UCHIIs) twice in 2010 and 2011. We detected $H_2O$ maser and $CH_3OH$ maser emission from 76(68%) and 49(44%) UCHIIs, respectively. Among them 15 $H_2O$ masers and 32 $CH_3OH$ masers are new detections. These high detection rates suggest that the occurrence periods of both masers are significantly overlapped with the UCHII phase. $CH_3OH$ masers always have small (<10 km s-1) relative velocities with respect to the natal molecular cores, while $H_2O$ masers often show larger velocities. We find 20 UCHIIs with $H_2O$ maser lines at relative velocities >30 km s-1. The formation and disappearance of $H_2O$ masers is frequent over one-year time interval. In contrast, $CH_3OH$ masers usually do not show substantial variation in intensity, velocity, or shape. The isotropic luminosities of both masers well correlate with the bolometric luminosities of the central stars when data points of lowand intermediate-mass protostars are added: $L_{H_2O}=5.89{\times}10^{-9}{(L_{bol})^{0.69}}$ and $L_{CH_3OH}=4.27{\times}10^{-9}{(L_{bol})^{0.62}}$. They also tend to increase with the 2cm radio continuum luminosity of UCHIIs and the 850 um continuum luminosity of the associated molecular cores. We discuss some individual sources.
Low-ionization nuclear emission-line regions (LINERs) have been generally regarded to be powered by active galactic nuclei (AGNs), yet still a number of alternative explanations on the origin of LINER emission are suggested; for example, planetary nebulae nuclei of massive stars, supernovae shocks from death of massive stars, and old stellar populations. Interestingly, a majority of recent star formation early-type galaxies (ETGs) in local universe presents such LINER emission lines. Given that situation, revealing the true nature of LINERs is a crucial step to constrain the evolution path to quiescent ETGs. To resolve the issue, we use Keck/LRIS to obtain spatially resolved spectra on a carefully selected ETG. The ETG SDSS J091628.05+420818.7 at redshift z ~ 0.024 shows modest LINER emission line features without any detection of 21 cm radio continuum nor X-ray emission. We perform a stellar continuum subtraction and measure emission line strengths and their uncertainties for each spectrum from five apertures along the slit with size of 1 arcsecond (~0.5 kpc). We find that extended spatial distributions of four emission lines $H{\alpha}$, $H{\beta}$, [OIII]${\lambda}5007$, and [NII]${\lambda}6583$, and they can be explained by central emission blurring effect. We conclude that the emissions seem to be centrally concentrated, indicating the AGN-nature of LINERs.
The beam size and the antenna efficiency of TRAO 14m radio telescope were measured at 86.2, 98.0 and 115.2 GHz. The beam size was determined by deconvolving the azimuthal scanning data of the Venus. To test the accuracy of our deconvolution method, the beam size at 86.2 GHz was compared with that determined from the mapping data of SiO maser line and we found no difference between them. With above beam sizes, antenna efficiencies were calculated from the continuum measurements of Venus, Jupiter and Moon. The beam efficiencies at these frequencies are appeared to be 0.49, 0.45 and 0.41, respectively. On the other hand, we also suggest that an automatic focus setting can be adopted for TRAO radio telescope based on the gradual change of best focus with elevation.
The UKIRT Wide-field Infrared survey for Fe+(UWIFE) is an unbiased survey of the first Galactic quadrant, with narrow-band filter centered on $1.644{\mu}m$. This survey covers $7^{\circ}$ < l < $62^{\circ}$ and |b| < $1.5^{\circ}$, where active interaction of stars and interstellar medium is expected. With median seeing of 0.8 arcsec, 5 - sigma detection limit of 18.7 mag and surface brightness limit of $8.1{\times}10^{-20}W\;m^{-2}arcsec^{-2}$, this survey gives an opportunity to statistically study Galactic [Fe II] - emitting sources for the first time. In order to identify Ionized Fe Objects (IFOs) in survey area systematically, we conducted visual inspection and automatic detection simultaneously. Total of ~300 extended IFOs are identified, most of them are found out to be part of supernova remnants (SNRs), young stellar objects, HII regions and planetary nebulae. The majority of IFOs are new discoveries which reveal shocked structures in high-extinction region. Spatial distribution of IFOs suggest that they trace Galactic structure. As a part of spectroscopic follow-up, we observed SNR candidate IFO J183740.829-061452.41 with IGRINS (Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph, Yuk+2010), mounted on 2.7m Harlan Smith telescope. This unknown arc-like, 6'-long IFO is coincident with inner part of radio continuum loop G25.8+0.2, which has been known as HII region. However, interior of this radio shell is filled with diffuse soft X-ray emission, and possible association of hard X-ray pulsar / pulsar wind nebula makes the nature of the IFO unclear. The H and K-band 2D spectrum shows shock-ionized [Fe II] filaments, which is apart from photoionized HII filaments. In this presentation we present basic statistics of newly identified IFOs, as well as the follow-up study of IFO J183740.829-061452.41.
We made simultaneous surveys of 22 GHz water and 44 / 95 GHz methanol masers toward 299 high-mass protostellar objects using the Korea VLBI Network (KVN) 21-m telescope. The sources were selected from the catalog of Red MSX Source (RMS) survey. Initial selection of the sample present high-mass protostellar objects in an evolutionary phase prior to ultra-compact HII regions, which have bolometric luminosities > $10^3L_{\odot}$ but are not associated with any radio continuum emission. After the follow-up work of ongoing RMS survey, final samples contains 56 sources classified as HII regions. We performed a simultaneous survey of 22 GHz water and 44 GHz methanol masers in 2011 and then conducted a simultaneous survey of 22 GHz water and 44 / 95 GHz methanol masers in 2012. The primary scientific goals of these surveys are to investigate the relationship among the three masers and to explore the relationship between each maser and the central star or the parental dense core. The detection rates of two epochs are 42% and 38% for water, 25% and 26% for 44 GHz methanol, and 23% (2012 only) for 95 GHz methanol masers. We performed a statistical analysis on subsample associated with a large data found in literature. In this poster, we will the preliminary data analysis results and discuss the implications.

Blue Compact Dwarf galaxies (BCDs) are low-mass galaxies with recently enhanced star formation activity. Since the discovery of old stellar population in the BCDs, a number of hypotheses have been suggested as the origin of the current active star formation. One theory is tidal interactions such as fly-by and merger. In this study we test this hypothesis using a pair of BCDs, ESO 435-IG20 and ESO 435-IG16 that are separate by only ~80 kpc in projection at a similar redshift (at a ~9 Mpc distance). In the HIPASS survey, intergalactic atomic hydrogen envelope has been found to be covering both galaxies, making the pair a good candidate for the case where the star formation has been triggered by tidal interaction. We probe the gas morphology and kinematics of the BCD pair using ATCA HI data in order to find the evidence of tidal interaction. We also estimate star formation rates in the pair based on Ha emission and UV continuum, and compare with other dwarf galaxies to investigate how responsible the tidal interaction is for the enhanced star formation in this case.
In the past, it. was very difficult to distinguish thermal and non-thermal emission. Broadbent et a1. (1989) has developed a new technique with the help of the IRAS 60 micron emission. The distribution of non-thermal or synchrotron emission in the Galactic disk has been modeled from the 408 MHz all sky survey of Haslam et a1. (1982) after removal of the thermal component.. At. 408 MHz, t.here is very little absorption in the interstellar medium and the distribution along the line-of-sight. is inferred mainly from its presumed relationship to other tracers of spiral structure via a. number of fitted parameters. But. at lower frequencies, free-free absorption becomes important and can give some direct. information on the line of sight. distribution. We have modeled the thermal electron density according to the spiral arm models and the distribution of ionized hydrogen in the Galactic plane by Lockman (1976) and Cersosimo et. al. (1989) and have made predictions to compare with the surveys of Dwarakanath et al. (1990) at. 34.5 MHz and .Jones and Finlay (1974) at 29.9 MHz. The result confirms that the absorption model of the synchrotron emissivity in the Galactic plane is broadly corrected and illustrates the potential of the absorption technique.
