  • In this study, a simulation program was developed with heat transfer model in the thermal storage tank for a solar collector and burner combined heating and hot water supply system. Analysis was conducted with variation of operating condition and schedule to analyze performance of a hot water supply and panel heating system with a solar collector and burner combined thermal storage tank. The simulation program is divided two sections. One part is calculation of temperature variation of water which flows through the panel in the floor for heating of the residential house during 24 hours, and the other part is heat transfer calculation for the reaction time to get desired water temperature in the thermal storage tank. As results, light oil consumption and system performance during operation period were analyzed with variation of climate condition and with or without solar collector. Most of the case, oil could be saved about from 24 to 41% with installing the solar collector. The performance of the system is more dependent on radiation time of the solar collector rather than the intensity of the solar radiation which was adopted for the climate analysis.

  • Greenhouses should be heated during nights and co Id days in order to fit growth conditions in greenhouses. Ground source heat pump(GSHP) or geothermal heat pump system(GHPs) is recognized to be outstanding heating and cooling system. Horizontal GSHP system is typically less expensive than vertical GSHP system but requires wide ground area to bury ground heat exchanger (GHE). In this study, a horizontal GSHP system with thermal storage tank was installed in greenhouse and investigated as performance characteristics. In the daytime, heating load of greenhouse is very small or needless because solar radiation increases inner air temperature. The results of study showed that the heating coefficient of performance of the heat pump($COP_h$) was 2.9 and the overall heating coefficient of performance of the system($COP_{sys}$) was 2.4. Heating energy cost was saved 76% using the horizontal GSHP system with thermal storage tank.

  • The Ondol system using both air-to-water heat pump and PCM(Phase Change Material) was constructed, and the effects of ambient air temperature on COP(Coefficient of Performance) of heat pump, the amount of heat supplied to the Ondol in the heating process, the heat storage in the PCM and the variation of Ondol room temperature were analyzed. The results from this study could be summarized as follows: 1. The COP of the heat pump (3 PS) was in proportion to the ambient air temperature. 2. When the ambient air temperature was varied between -10$^{\circ}C$ and -7$^{\circ}C$, the air temperature in the Ondol room was maintained between 16$^{\circ}C$ and 22$^{\circ}C$. As the results, it was certified that the heat pump-latent heat storage type Ondol system could be a comfortable residential heating system in the winter. 3. The maximum radiation and convection heat transfer from Ondol surface was 206.2 kJ/㎥hr and 82.6 kJ/㎥hr respectively. As the results, it could be confirmed that the radiation was major heat transfer mechanism for the Ondol room heating.

  • The usefulness of hypertermia for cancer therapy have well been established. The purpose of the present investigation was to ascess the effect of step-up $(42^{\circ}{\rightarrow}44^{\circ}C$ sequence) and step-down $(44^{\circ}{\rightarrow}42^{\circ}C$ sequence) heating on the skin of the hind foot of the mouse. Hyperthermic treatments were given by immersion the hind foot of the mouse in circulating water baths. Skin response was studied by the leg reaction, which was scored according to a numerical scoring system proposed by Urano et al (1980). The results were as follows 1. The skin damage of $44^{\circ}C$ control group was more severe than $42^{\circ}C$ control group (P<0.05), except for 15 min. heating group. 2. The Skin damage of step-down group was more severe than step-up group (P<0.05). 3. The skin damage of $44^{\circ}C$ control group was more severe than step-up group when there is no difference in $44^{\circ}C$ heating time of step-up group from $44^{\circ}C$ control group (P<0.05). 4. In step-down group, the skin damage was more severe than $44^{\circ}C$ control group after preheating 45 min at $44^{\circ}C$ (P<0.05). Therefore, the above findings suggest the normal tissue damage by step-up heating was correlated with heating time of post step-up. The dropping of heating temperature in late phase had more severe damage of the skin than that in early phase during hyperthermia, and so contineous control of satisfactory temperature should be considered as the one of the most important factor for prognosis, complications of clinical hyperthermia

  • To evaluate the temperature distribution according to the size of the electorde and the thickness of the phantom using 8MHz radiofrequency capacitive heating device, various sized electrodes and phantoms were used in combination. The radii of the electrodes are 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 cm and the thickness of cylindrical phantoms with diameter 30 cm were 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 cm. When the thickness of the phantom was 25 cm or 30 cm, homogenous heating was achieved by using the electrode which diameter was equal to or greater than the thickness of the phantom. When the thickness of the phantom was 20 cm or less. homogenous heating was not achieved by using the electrode which diameter was equal to the thickness of the phantom, but achieved by the larger diameter of the electorode. When the sizes of paired electrodes were not equal, the smaller electrode side was preferentially heated.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of the thermal environment created by the cooling system at the apartment that combines the forced convection cooling(the system reducing humidity from room) with the floor cooling radiation which uses the floor panel from floor heating system, a general residential heating system in Korea. In this study, the combined cooling system in which air supply, spurt temperature difference and interior draft are reduced, is compared with the existing forced convection cooling system. To identify the effect of the comparison concretely, a comparative experiment is carried out on tour conditions, ie, convection cooling, floor radiation convection cooling and floor radiation cooling. Through it the characteristical thermal environment formed within the model room is analyzed, and the conveying system of compressed floor chill and condensation problem are reviewed.

  • A simple mathematical model of simultaneous combined action of environmental agents has been proposed to describe the synergistic interaction of microwave and high ambient temperature treatment on animal heating. The model suggests that the synergism is caused by the additional effective damage arising from an interaction of sublesions induced by each agent. These sublesions are considered to be ineffective if each agent is taken individually. The additional damage results in a higher body temperature increment when compared with that expected for an independent action of each agent. The model was adjusted to describe the synergistic interaction, to determine its greatest value and the condition under which it can be achieved. The prediction of the model was shown to be consistent with experimental data on rabbit heating. The model appears to be appropriate and the conclusions are valid.

  • Computational fluid dynamics analysis was carried out for thermo-chemical flow field in Arcjet thruster with mono-propellant Hydrazine ($N_2$H$_4$) as a working fluid. The theoretical formulation is based on the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flows with thermal radiation. The electric potential field governed by Maxwell equation is loosely coupled with the fluid dynamics equations through the Ohm heating and Lorentz force. Chemical reactions were assumed being infinitely fast due to the high temperature field inside the arcjet thruster. An equilibrium chemistry module for nitrogen-hydrogen mixture and a thermal radiation module for optically thin media were incorporated with the fluid dynamics code. Thermo-physical process inside the arcjet thruster was understood from the flow field results and the performance prediction shows that the thrust force is increased by amount of 3 times with 0.6KW arc heating.

  • Among the atmospheric effect of laser propagation, the variations of the radiation transmittance by water aerosol evaporation have quantitatively been investigated. When the aerosol was exposed by a 1.07 ${\mu}m$ cw fiber laser, the increased amount of the transmittance variation was a maximum of 19.1% and the volume concentration variation of aerosol was observed as an increasing of laser intensity. Also, significant irregularity of refractive index was not found in the heated area during the continuous laser heating.
