This paper presents the thermal characteristic analysis of a high-speed HMC with spindle speed of 50,000rpm. The spindle is supported by two radial and axial magnetic bearings. and the built-in motor is located between the axial and rear radial magnetic bearings. The X-axis and Y-axis feeding systems are composed of linear motor and linear motion guides, and the Z-axis feeding system is composed of servo-motor, ballscrew and linear motion guide. The thermal analysis model of high-speed HMC is constructed by the finite element method, and the thermal characteristics in the design stage are estimated based on the temperature distribution and thermal deformation under the conditions related to the heat generation of built-in motor, magnetic bearings, linear motors, servo-motor, ballscrew, and so on.

High speed brushless permanent magnet(PM) machines need a key technology to minimize the iron core losses in stator and the eddy current losses in the retained sleeve and magnets caused by slotting harmonics. Thus, slotless or iron-coreless brushless PM machines have been applied for a very high rotational speed and/or the ripple-free torque. Unfortunately, slotless or coreless PM machines have lower open-circuit field than slotted and/or iron-cored types, which cause to reduce power density. Fortunately, Halbach array can generate the strong magnetic field systems without additional magnetic materials. In this paper, the 4-pole Halbach array is applied to the high speed machine and is compared with the radial magnetized PM array in field system. The iron-/air-cored stator of PM machine is constructed with/without winding slots. Open circuit magnetic fields of each type are presented from the analytical method and finite element method. Consequently, it is confirmed that the Halbach array field system with slotless stator is more suitable to the high speed motor because it has high flux density, sinusoidal flux distribution than others.
We perform two kinds of computer simulations on polydisperse hard-sphere systems; a molecular-dynamics simulation on atomic systems and a Brownian-dynamics simulation on colloidal suspensions. Analyses of the mean square displacement, the radial distribution function, and the pressure suggest that there exist three phase regions, a liquid phase region, a metastable phase region, and a crystal phase region, where the freezing and melting points are shifted to the values higher than in monodisperse case. It is also shown that the long-time behavior of colloidal suspensions is exactly the same as that of atomic systems.
Brownian-dynamics simulation on highly charged colloidal suspensions is performed by employing Tokuyama effective force recently proposed. The radial distribution function suggests that there exist three novel phases, a gas phase, a liquid droplet phase, and a face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal droplet phase, depending on the minimum values of that potential. The dynamics of droplet growth is also investigated both in liquid droplet phase and in crystal droplet phase. Thus, different types of characteristic growth stages are found.
The OSS2(Ojame-Shavitt-Singer 2)[L. Ojame et al., J. Chem. Phys. 109, 5547 (1998)] model as a dissociable water model is examined in order to study the dynamics of H+ in water. MD simulations for 216 water system, 215 water + H+ ion system, and 215 water + OH- ion system using the OSS2 model at 298.15 K with the use of Ewald summation are carried out. The calculated O-H radial distribution functions for these systems are essentially the same and are in very good agreement with that obtained by Ojame.
A series of aliphatic hydrocarbons, methane to hexane in the liquid state, are modeled with the molecular mechanical potential parameters treating all hydrogen degrees of freedom explicitly. Thermodynamic properties (heat capacities and heats of vaporization) are calculated from relatively short (20ps) molecular dynamics trajectories. The liquid state structures are also examined through various radial distribution functions. Molecular dynamics simulations reproduce experimentally measured properties within a few percent errors, thus indicate that the present set of all-hydrogen parameters is suitable for simulating macromolecular systems in bulk.

In a roll-to-roll continuous system, winding is one of the most important processes since it determines the quality of the final manufactured products such as flexible film and printed electronic devices. Since an adequate winding tension can reduce the incidence of the defects that are derived from the inner stress of the wound roll such as starring and telescoping, it is necessary to determine the optimal taper-tension profile. In this study, an algorithm for the setting of an optimal taper-tension profile in consideration of the residual stress in the wound roll is suggested; furthermore, the algorithm was adjusted for the determination of an optimal taper-tension profile regarding the winding process of $10{\mu}m$ polypropylene (PP) film. As a result of the algorithm-generated, optimal taper-tension profile, the residual stress and radial stress in a PP wound roll were decreased to 27.37 % and 40.05 % (mean value), respectively.
In this study, Multi-Radial Basis Function Support Vector Machine (Multi-RBF SVM) classifier is introduced based on a composite kernel function. In the proposed multi-RBF support vector machine classifier, the input space is divided into several local subsets considered for extremely nonlinear classification tasks. Each local subset is expressed as nonlinear classification subspace and mapped into feature space by using kernel function. The composite kernel function employs the dual RBF structure. By capturing the nonlinear distribution knowledge of local subsets, the training data is mapped into higher feature space, then Multi-SVM classifier is realized by using the composite kernel function through optimization procedure similar to conventional SVM classifier. The original training data set is partitioned by using some unsupervised learning methods such as clustering methods. In this study, three types of clustering method are considered such as Affinity propagation (AP), Hard C-Mean (HCM) and Iterative Self-Organizing Data Analysis Technique Algorithm (ISODATA). Experimental results on benchmark machine learning datasets show that the proposed method improves the classification performance efficiently.
Scroll compressor has been used extensively for refrigeration since the early 1980's for its improved efficiency, greater reliability, smoother operation, lower noise and vibration. And also, nowadays, the scroll mechanism is used for expander even though in niche market yet. But scroll expander has not been used for high-temperature and high-pressure gas, because the continuous expansion of the gas causes a wide range of temperature distribution over the whole scroll wrap that leads to differential thermal expansion of scroll elements, which results in system vibrations, noise and efficiency losses. For the scroll expander to produce power more efficiently, all of radial and radial clearances between scroll wrap must be the same. In order to reduce differential thermal expansion in addition to improvements in thermal efficiency and specific power, we propose a scroll expander with heating structure. Heat-pipe heating structure is considered as the most effective method to heat the scroll expander at a uniform temperature. This paper includes some results of preliminary study of the scroll expander with heating structure and proposals of their systems for power generation and refrigeration.

This paper presents an application of the parallel Adaptive Evolutionary Algorithm (AEA) to search an optimal solution of a reconfiguration in distribution systems. The aim of the reconfiguration is to determine the appropriate switch position to be opened for loss minimization in radial distribution systems, which is a discrete optimization problem. This problem has many constraints and it is very difficult to find the optimal switch position because of its numerous local minima. In this investigation, a parallel AEA was developed for the reconfiguration of the distribution system. In parallel AEA, a genetic algorithm (GA) and an evolution strategy (ES) in an adaptive manner are used in order to combine the merits of two different evolutionary algorithms: the global search capability of GA and the local search capability of ES. In the reproduction procedure, proportions of the population by GA and ES are adaptively modulated according to the fitness. After AEA operations, the best solutions of AEA processors are transferred to the neighboring processors. For parallel computing, a PC-cluster system consisting of 8 PCs·was developed. Each PC employs the 2 GHz Pentium IV CPU, and is connected with others through switch based fast Ethernet. The new developed algorithm has been tested and is compared to distribution systems in the reference paper to verify the usefulness of the proposed method. From the simulation results, it is found that the proposed algorithm is efficient and robust for distribution system reconfiguration in terms of the solution quality, speedup, efficiency, and computation time.
