A new silkworm variety 'Yangwonjam'for both of spring and autumn rearing season is F$_1$hybrid between Jam 143, a Japanese race bred from H5R1/P8503 and Jam 144, a Chinese race from M8312/8190. This is the first both parent sex-limited larval marking variety in Korea, and which contributes to eggs production of F$_1$hybrid silkworm with saving labor. Jam 143, Japanese parent of the 'Yangwonjam'showed high GCA in pupation percentage and Jam 144, Chinese parent showed high GCA in pupation percentage and single cocoon weight. In the local adaptability test performed at 8 local areas in spring of 1998, Yangwonjam records 1% higher in pupation percentage and 5%, 4% lower in single cocoon weight, cocoon yield from 10,000 3rd molted larvae respectively than the check variety Kumokjam. Also in the resistance test against unfavorable rearing condition performed in spring of 1997, Yangwonjam records 9%, 14% lower in single cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight respectively than the check variety, but showed 1% higher in pupation percentage than check variety.
Background: Public use National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) and NHANES III linked mortality data were here applied to investigate the association between health insurance coverage and all cause and all cancer mortality in adults. Patients and Methods: NHANES III household adult, laboratory and mortality data were merged. Only patients examined in the mobile examination center (MEC) were included in this study. The sampling weight employed was WTPFEX6, SDPPSU6 being used for the probability sampling unit and SDPSTRA6 to designate the strata for the survey analysis. All cause and all cancer mortalities were used as binary outcomes. The effect of health insurance coverage status on all cause and all cancer mortalities were analyzed with potential socioeconomic, behavioral and health status confounders. Results: There were 2398 sample persons included in this study. The mean age was 40 years and the mean (S.E.) follow up was 171.85 (3.12) person months from the MEC examination. For all cause mortality, the odds ratios (significant p-values) of the covariates were: age, 1.0095 (0.000); no health insurance coverage (using subjects with health insurance), 1.71 (0.092); black race (using non-Hispanic white subjects as the reference group) 1.43, (0.083); Mexican-Americans, 0.60 (0.089); DMPPIR, 0.82, (0.000); and drinking hard liquor, 1.014 (0.007). For all cancer mortality, the odds ratio (significant p-values) of the covariates were: age, 1.0072 (0.00); no health insurance coverage, using with health coverage as the reference group, 2.91 (0.002); black race, using non-Hispanic whites as the reference group, 1.64 (0.047); Mexican Americans, 0.33 (0.008) and smoking, 1.017 (0.118). Conclusion: There was a 70% increase in risk of all cause death and almost 300% of all cancer death for people without any health insurance coverage.
Totally sixty three bacteria were isolated from lower stems showing symptoms of bacterial wilt on pepper plants in 14 counties of 7 provinces, Korea. The isolates showed strong pathogenicity on red pepper (cv. Daewang) and tomato (cv. Seogwang) seedlings. All virulent bacteria were identified as Ralstonia solanacearum based on colony types, physiological and biochemical tests and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). All R. solanacearum isolates from peppers were race 1. The bacterial isolates consisted of biovar 3 (27%) and biovar 4 (73%). Based on polymorphic PCR bands generated by repetitive sequence (rep-PCR), the 63 R. solanacearum isolates were divided into 12 groups at 70% similarity level. These results will be used as basic materials for resistant breeding program and efficient control against bacterial wilt disease of pepper.
One hundred and three isolates of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae in Korea were evaluated for their virulence on four near-isogenic lines (NILs) containing a single resistance gene, and Korean differential varieties. The resistant gene backgrounds of Cheongcheongbyeo, Pungsanbyeo, Hangangchalbyeo, Milyang42 were not completely understood and they were not suited for the classification of X. oryzae pv. oryzae. Four NILs, IRBB101, IRBB103, IRBB105, and IRBB107 were difference for characterizing races of X. oryzae pv. oryzae because they have a single resistance gene. These NILs may be useful differential set in examining pathogenic races of X. oryzae pv. oryzae in Korea. Based on the virulence of 103 isolates to new differential varieties, they were classified into 3 races.
One thousand forty-four isolates of Pyricularia oryzae obtained during the period 1962-1974 front blast-infected rice samples from all rice-growing areas of Korea were tested on the Japanese differential set of twelve rice varieties. Twenty-seven races of the fungus were differentiated. The number of races falling in groups T,C and N were 4, 15 and 8, respetively. Since only Japonica type varieties had been cultivated widely before 1966, N-race groups were found to be most Prevalent with a frequency of about $85\%$ of the total isolates. After 1966, T-and C-race groups gradually increased to $21\%$ and $42\%$ respectively, as a result of the widespread cultivation of Tongil bred from a cross between IR8 x(Yukara x T(N)1. Before 1966, a few T, and C-race groups occurred only in the Suweon region; since 1966, most of the races differentiated have been uniformly distributed throughout the country regardless of region. The most prevalent races in Korea were N-2 and C-8. The variety Tetep was resistant to all races previously identified in Korea, but a new race (T-d) to which Tetep is susceptible has been found each year since 1973. It appears likely that races capable of attacking Indica types of rice will become increasingly prevalent and a programme of continuous screening is needed to detect new races as soon as they appear.
Background: This study used Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) pancreatic cancer data to identify predictive models and potential socio-economic disparities in pancreatic cancer outcome. Materials and Methods: For risk modeling, Kaplan Meier method was used for cause specific survival analysis. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov's test was used to compare survival curves. The Cox proportional hazard method was applied for multivariate analysis. The area under the ROC curve was computed for predictors of absolute risk of death, optimized to improve efficiency. Results: This study included 58,747 patients. The mean follow up time (S.D.) was 7.6 (10.6) months. SEER stage and grade were strongly predictive univariates. Sex, race, and three socio-economic factors (county level family income, rural-urban residence status, and county level education attainment) were independent multivariate predictors. Racial and socio-economic factors were associated with about 2% difference in absolute cause specific survival. Conclusions: This study s found significant effects of socio-economic factors on pancreas cancer outcome. These data may generate hypotheses for trials to eliminate these outcome disparities.
P/M high speed steel (1.26% C, 4.42% Cr, 6.54% W, 4.92% Mo, 3.21 % V, 8.77% Co, bal. Fe) was applied to hot former die. It showed that the die life became 2.7 times higher than that of cast/wrought SKH 55 tool steel which is commercially used. The increase of die life was corresponding to the improved hardness and transverse rupture strength of PM high speed steel due to the finer grain and carbide as well as the uniform carbide distribution. The P/M high speed steel with the promoted die life could be an alternative to the conventional SKH55.

Data mining has broad applications that reach beyond scholarly and scientific research and provide internet search engine services that are commonly used forms of Text and Data Mining('TDM') of websites. The exceptions and limitations for data mining provide a competitive advantage in the global race for policy innovation because it permits researchers to conduct computational analysis - TDM on any materials to which they have access. For this purpose, Japan and the EU added limitations on copyright to legalize some TDM research through amendments to copyright law, and the U.S. copyright law has allowed data mining by the fair use provision. On the other hand, there are no explicit exceptions and limitations for data mining under the Korean Copyright Act, and there are no cases considering data mining fair use. We review comparatively exceptions and limitations on copyright which will help to encourage AI-related business by using more data smoothly through the mining process and extracting more valuable information.

Races must be detected for debugging OpenMP programs with directives, because they may cause unintended nondeterministic results of programs. Intel Thread Checker, an existing tool that can detects races, can not verify the existence of races and is often time-consuming and tends to require large space. To solve these problems, we developed a tool that verifies the existence of races using user requirements and analyzed model of programs. However, the tool does not have optimal performance in programs which have no synchronization for interthread coordination. This paper presents an optimal tool that applies the optimum labeling and protocol for program models without interthread coordination. For synthetic programs without interthread synchronization, the tool verifies races over 250 times faster than the previous tool on the average, even if the maximum parallelism increases in every case of which the number of total accesses are identical.
The blood picture of 85 healthy race horses in Korea was investigated. The ranges and mean values of erythrocyte, hemoglobin, hematocrit value, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, and total white blood cell count in the blood picture were determine. The respective mean value and standard deviation and age differences were as follows: 1. The erythrobyte count was shown as range of 6.20 to $11.32{\times}10^6/mm^3$ with mean of $8.61{\pm}1.92{\times}10^6/mm^3$(SD). The leucocyte count was shown as range 5.0 to $18.0{\times}10^3/mm^3$ with mean of $8.25{\pm}1.51{\times}10^3/mm^3$(SD). There were not significant. differences in age, 2. The mean value of hemoglobin was shown $13.9{\pm}1.7g/100ml(SD)$ ranging 9.8 to 16.8g/100ml. The mean value of hematocrit was shown $40.9{\pm}3.94ml/100ml(SD)$ ranging 26 to 54. There were not significant differences in age. 3. The mean corpuscular hemoglobin was shown as range of 11.8 to 22.2pg with mean of $16.9{\pm}4.69$(SD). The mean corpuscular volume was shown as range of 34.5 to $71.3cu{\mu}$ with mean of $49.0{\pm}7.32cu{\mu}$(SD). The mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration was shown as range of 30.6 to 39.4 g/100 ml with mean of $34.6{\pm}2.36$(SD). There were not significant differences in age. 4. The correlation among erythrocyte count, hemoglobin and hematocrit value were observed as follows: Erythrocyte count and hemoglobin (+0.328), rythrocyte count and hematocrit vague (+0.319). A linear regression equation was shown as follows: Erythrocyte count and hemoglobin (Y=0.336x+10.977), erythrocyte count and hematocrit value (Y=0.655x+35.274). 5. The high correlation between hemoglobin and hematocrit vague was observed (r= +0.836). A linear regression equation was shown: (Y=1.948x+13.895).
