  • A question answering (QA) system can be built using multiple QA modules that can individually serve as a QA system in and of themselves. This paper proposes a learnable, strategy-driven QA model that aims at enhancing both efficiency and effectiveness. A strategy is learned using a learning-based classification algorithm that determines the sequence of QA modules to be invoked and decides when to stop invoking additional modules. The learned strategy invokes the most suitable QA module for a given question and attempts to verify the answer by consulting other modules until the level of confidence reaches a threshold. In our experiments, our strategy learning approach obtained improvement over a simple routing approach by 10.5% in effectiveness and 27.2% in efficiency.

  • A user should pick up relevant answers by himself from various search results when using user participation question answering community like Knowledge-iN. If refined answers are automatically provided, usability of question answering community must be improved. This paper divides questions in Q&A documents into 4 types(word, list, graph and text), then proposes summarizing methods for each question type using document statistics. Summarized answers for word, list and text type are obtained by question clustering and calculating scores for words using frequency, proximity and confidence of answers. Answers for graph type is shown by extracting user opinion from answers.

  • The main goal of this study is to investigate how to route a question to some relevant users who have interest in the topic of the question based on users' topic interest. In order to assess users' topic interest, archived question-answer pairs in the community were used to identify latent topics in the chosen categories using LDA. Then, these topic models were used to identify users' topic interest. Furthermore, the topics of newly submitted questions were analyzed using the topic models in order to recommend relevant answerers to the question. This study introduces the process of topic modeling to investigate relevant users based on their topic interest.

  • Question answering system (QA system) is a system that finds an actual answer to the question posed by a user, whereas a typical search engine would only find the links to the relevant documents. Recent works related to the open domain QA systems are receiving much attention in the fields of natural language processing, artificial intelligence, and data mining. However, the prior works on QA systems simply replace all words that are not in the training data with a single token, even though such unseen words are likely to play crucial roles in differentiating the candidate answers from the actual answers. In this paper, we propose a method to compute vectors of such unseen words by taking into account the context in which the words have occurred. Next, we also propose a model which utilizes inverse document frequencies (IDF) to efficiently process unseen words by expanding the system's vocabulary. Finally, we validate that the proposed method and model improve the performance of a QA system through experiments.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted by clinical dentistry hygienists to develop knowledge measurement tools and evaluate knowledge necessary to cope with emergencies related to systemic diseases occurring in dentistry. Methods: Basic questions were developed on the six most frequently occurring diseases in the dental office: diabetes, syncope, respiratory disease, coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, and epilepsy. Fifty-eight preliminary questions were composed in a survey format through expert validation. The survey was then conducted on 290 dental hygienists to verify the composition validity and reliability. Factor and reliability analyses were performed using the SPSS 23.0 program, and the correct answer rate for each question was calculated. Results: 49 items of a total of 13 factors were adopted as the final items for signs, symptoms, prevention and treatment of five diseases. The question with the highest percentage of correct answers for each question was "Slowly set up the unit chair when raising the patient"(97.9%) during the prevention of unconsciousness and question with the lowest correct answer rate was "soft substances such as cloth should be put in the mouth to prevent trauma while the seizure persists" (16.6%). Conclusions: A total of 49 questions have been developed as tools to measure the knowledge of dental hygienists' first aid related to systemic diseases and it is expected that related curriculum can be operated or evaluated by using them.

  • On the setting of the upper half-space, H of the euclidean n-space, we consider the question of when the Poisson integral of a function on the boundary of H is a harmonic Bergman function and here we give a partial answer.

  • We use a semi-variational method to obtain necessary condition for a linear functional L to attain its extrema at certain elementary products. This is applied to obtain an answer to the long-standing question of determining explicit extreme points of the normalised Spirallike functions of order $\alpha$.

  • In this note we answer to a question of Curto: Non-first two equal weights in the weighted shift force subnormality in the presence of quadratic hyponormality. Also it is shown that every hyponormal weighted shift with two equal weights cannot be polynomially hyponormal without being flat.
