  • The purpose of this study was to describe the features of dating violence and to examine the perceptions of why dating violence occurred and the influence of violence on their relatioships. This study relied on the qualitative research method in order to approach their subjective experience. The major findings were as follows; 1) Respondents had been involved in various forms of violence, including insulting, hitting, slapping in the face, and kicking. Dating violence occurred primarily on weekends and in private and public settings such as the residence of one of the partners and restaurant. It was likely to occur repeatedly and in serious relationships. There were sex differences in prevalence of dating violence. Male partner was likely to be a initiator and do severe acts. 2) The majority of respondents had a tendency to label themselves as victims rather than as initiators of violence. Jealousy was perceived as the primary causal factor leading to dating violence. 3) Both offenders and victims reported emotional trauma like anger and shame. Their relationships has worsened because of physical violence, but didn't terminate.

  • Euler method is generalized to solve the system of nonlinear differential equations. The generalization is carried out by taking a special constant matrix S so that exp(tS) can be exactly computed. Such a matrix S is extracted from the Jacobian matrix of the given problem. Stability of the generalized Euler process is discussed. It is shown that the generalized Euler process is comparable to the fourth order Runge-Kutta method. We also exemplify that the important qualitative and geometric features of the underlying dynamical system can be recovered by the generalized Euler process.

  • Absorption chiller/heater can utilize the unused energy of the daily life waste heat, the industry waste heat. the solar energy and the earth energy. These can contribute to energy savings. But the absorption chiller/heater has a demerit that the size of absorption chiller/heater is larger than that of the vapor compression type based on same capacity. In this study. the experimental apparatus of an absorber is manufactured as a plate. which is newly applied in an absorber. The experimental apparatus is composed of a plate type absorber. which can increase the heat exchange area per unit volume and thus facilitating to deeply investigate more detail features instead of that done by the existing type. i.e.. horizontal tube bundle type. The characteristics of heat transfer and refrigeration capacity are studied experimentally. The absorption enhancement by using surfactant is closely examined through the experiment and comparative figures are presented in quantitative and qualitative analysis.

  • LHR(Landfill Site Hazard Ranking Model) was developed for ranking the relative hazard of landfill sites by using the method of value-structured approach. LHR consists of combining a multiattribute decision-making method with a Qualitative risk assessment approach. A pairwise com parisian method was applied to determine weights of landfill site factors related. To determine the hazard of landfill site, hydrogeological factors, waste characteristics factors and receptors factors were evaluated by LHR. LHR can help decision-makers prioritization of remediation of landfill sites through the relatively convenient and concise evaluation method of landfill site features related. LHR focuses mainly on pathways of groundwater and surfacewater for evaluating landfill hazard to receptors including humans. To validiate the applicability of LHR, Nanjido Landfill site, Metropolitan Landfill site, and Hwasung Landfill site were evaluated.

  • Recently, Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) received widely held attention from diverse audiences. However, to the author's knowledge, relatively little attention was paid to the educational implications of voice recognition (VR) softwares in language teaching in general, and teaching and learning pronunciation in particular. This study explores, and extends the applicability of VR softwares toward second language research areas addressing how VR softwares might facilitate interview data entering processes. To aid the readers' understanding in this field, the background of classroom interaction research, and the rationale of why interview data, therefore the role of VR softwares, becomes critical in this realm of inquiry will be discussed. VR softwares' development and a brief report on the features of up-to-date VR softwares will be sketched. Finally, suggestions for future studies investigating the impact of VR softwares on second language learning, teaching, and research will be offered.

  • Recently, correlation filter based trackers have shown excellent tracking performance and computational efficiency. In order to enhance tracking performance in the correlation filter based tracker, search area which is image patch for finding target must include target. In this paper, two methods to discriminatively represent target in the search area are proposed. Firstly, search area location is estimated using pyramidal Lucas-Kanade algorithm. By estimating search area location before filtering, fast motion target can be included in the search area. Secondly, we investigate multi-channel Local Edge Pattern(LEP) which is insensitive to illumination and noise variation. Qualitative and quantitative experiments are performed with eight dataset, which includes ground truth. In comparison with method without search area estimation, our approach retain tracking for the fast motion target. Additionally, the proposed multi-channel LEP improves discriminative performance compare to existing features.

  • Ultrasonic guided waves are gaining increasing attention for the inspection of platelike and rodlike structures. At the same time, inspection methods that do not require contact with the test piece are being developed for advanced applications. This paper capitalizes on recent advances in the areas of guided wave ultrasonics and noncontact ultrasonics to demonstrate a superior method for the nondestructive detection of thinning defects simulating hidden corrosion in thin aluminum plates. The proposed approach uses EMAT(electro-magnetic acoustic transducer) for the noncontact generation and detection of guided plate waves. Interesting features in the dispersive behavior of selected guided modes are used for the detection of plate thinning. It is shown that mode cutoff measurements provide a qualitative detection of thinning defects. Measurement of the mode group velocity can be also used to quantify of thinning depth.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze characteristics of teachers' knowledge about reductio ad absurdum. In order to achieve the aim, this study conducted didactical analysis about reductio ad absurdum through examining previous researches and developed a questionnaire with reference to the results of the analysis. The questionnaire was given to 34 high school teachers and qualitative methods were used to analyze the data obtained from the written responses by the participants. This study also elaborated the framework descriptors for interpreting the teachers' responses in the light of the didactical analysis and the data was elucidated in terms of this framework. The specific features of teachers' knowledge about reductio ad absurdum were categorized into five types as a result. This study raised several implications for teachers' professional development for effective mathematics instruction related to reductio ad absurdum.

  • The present study addresses the research frameworks and directions in the area of accounting information systems (AIS) by conducting a comprehensive survey of 76 A/S doctoral dissertations published between 1980 and 1990. The central research task is to identify the distinctive features of A/S that distinguish it from other disciplines. The procedure of the survey analysis is as follows. First, the A/S dissertations are categorized according to information systems (IS) and accounting. Then, some representative A/S research areas are documented, based on the IS/accounting domain combinations. The paper also attempts to discover the topical trends, supporting bases, and qualitative aspects of the A/S research. The survey reveals a : 1) the existence of economics as a supporting discipline, 2) the topical trend consistent with the evolution of IS, but restricted by the specific combinations of its parent domains, and 3) the need for intellectual rigor in the A/S research.

  • Taking into account the geometrical and material nonlinearities, an ultimate behavior of reinforced concrete cooling tower shell in hyperbolic configuration is presented. The design wind pressures suggested in the guidelines of the US (ACI) and Germany (VGB), with or without the effect of internal suction, are employed in the analysis to examine the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of each design wind pressure. The geometrical nonlinearity is incorporated by the Green-Lagrange strain tensor. The nonlinear features of concrete, such as the nonlinear stress-strain relation in compression, the tensile cracking with the smeared crack model, an effect of tension stiffening, are taken into account. The biaxial stress state in concrete is represented by an improved work-hardening plasticity model. From the perspective of quality of wind pressures, the two guidelines are determined as highly correlated each other. Through the extensive analysis on the Niederaussem cooling tower in Germany, not only the ultimate load is determined but also the mechanism of failure, distribution of cracks, damage processes, stress redistributions, and mean crack width are examined.
