Gametogenic Cycle and the Number of Spawning Seasons by Quantitative Reproductive Analysis in Female Ruditapes philippinarum in Western Korea

  • For the studies of germ cell development and maturation in the ovary, the gametogenic cycle and the number of spawning seasons per year in female Ruditapes philippinarum were investigated by quantitative statistical analysis using an Image Analyzer System. Compared with the results by qualitative and quantitative analyses, monthly variations in female gonad indice by qualitative histological analysis showed a pattern similar to that of the female gametogenic cycle calculated by quantitative statistical analysis. The number of spawning seasons occurred once per year, from June to October. In quantitative statistical analysis using an image analyzer system, monthly changes in the portions (%) of the ovary area to total tissue areas in females increased in March and reached a maximum in May, and then showed a rapid decrease from June to October when spawning occurred. And also monthly changes in portions (%) of follicle areas to the ovary area and in portions of oocyte areas to ovarian tissue areas in females began to increase in March and reached a maximum in May, and then. rapidly dropped from June to October when spawnig occurred. From these data, it is apparent that the number of spawning seasons occurred once per year, from June to October. Monthly changes in the number of the oocyte per $mm^2$ and in mean diameter of the oocyte in captured image which were calculated for each female slide showed a maximum in May and reached the minimum from December to February. Therefore, female R. philippinarum showed a unimodal gametogenic cycle during the year.

  • 인적자원관리 (HRM)는 조직 내 구성원과 관련된 복잡한 현상과 인간관계의 다원성을 다룬다. 이러한 이유에서 정량적인 접근방법을 적용한 HRM의 연구에서는 분석의 대상과 영역이 필연적으로 제한적일 수 밖에 없다. 기업의 HRM이 포괄하는 다양한 영역 가운데 정성적인 영역이 기업의 성과와 경쟁우위를 실질적으로 좌우하는 경우가 많다. 그러나 기존의 정량적인 시각을 통한 접근은 HRM의 정성적인 측면을 등한시 해온 경향성을 보여주었다. 점차 복잡해지고 있는 HRM과 관련된 연구의 현실에서 정량적인 접근방법에 의한 연구방법은 본질적인 차원에서 그 한계를 배태하고 있다. 이러한 의미에서 본 연구는 HRM과 관련된 선행 연구를 바탕으로 질적인 방법을 적용하기 위한 주요 논점의 제시를 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구에서는 HRM 연구가 직면하고 있는 현실에서 정성적인 접근방법의 필요성을 강조하였다. 또한 HRM 연구의 다차원적인 발전을 위해 사례연구 방법의 적용을 제안함으로써 관련 연구 주제의 복잡성에 대응하고 심층적인 이해의 확대 가능성을 제시하였다.

Soft Set Theory Oriented Forecast Combination Method for Business Failure Prediction

  • This paper presents a new combined forecasting method that is guided by the soft set theory (CFBSS) to predict business failures with different sample sizes. The proposed method combines both qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to improve forecasting performance. We considered an expert system (ES), logistic regression (LR), and support vector machine (SVM) as forecasting components whose weights are determined by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The proposed procedure was applied to real data sets from Chinese listed firms. For performance comparison, single ES, LR, and SVM methods, the combined forecasting method based on equal weights (CFBEWs), the combined forecasting method based on neural networks (CFBNNs), and the combined forecasting method based on rough sets and the D-S theory (CFBRSDS) were also included in the empirical experiment. CFBSS obtains the highest forecasting accuracy and the second-best forecasting stability. The empirical results demonstrate the superior forecasting performance of our method in terms of accuracy and stability.

시뮬레이션을 이용한 전쟁사 군수지원 요소의 정량적 분석 : 나폴레옹의 모스크바 원정 사례 연구 (The Quantitative Analysis in terms of the Requisite for Logistics Support of the War History using Simulation Moscow Expedition of Napoleon)

  • 전쟁사를 연구하는 목적은 과거의 전쟁을 이해함으로써 얻어지는 교훈을 통해 전쟁을 사전에 예방하기 위함일 뿐만 아니라 유사시, 과거 전쟁에서와 같은 동일한 실수를 범하지 않음으로써 적으로부터 전쟁에서 승리를 얻기 위함이다. 이러한 이유로 국내 외적으로 전쟁사에 대한 연구가 지속적으로 진행되었으며, 현재에도 다수의 연구가 수행되고 있다. 하지만, 전쟁사에 대한 많은 연구 중 대부분이 정성적인 분석을 통해서만 전쟁사를 분석하여 왔다. 본 연구에서는 전쟁사에 대한 정성적 분석에 추가하여 시뮬레이션을 이용한 정량적 분석 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 연구사례로는 나폴레옹의 모스크바 원정을 중심으로 전쟁에 미치는 군수지원의 중요성을 정량적으로 분석하였다. 또한, 이를 토대로, 나폴레옹군의 군수지원 실패 요인과 이를 통해 교훈을 도출하였다. 본 논문은 전쟁사를 연구함에 있어 정성적 분석 방법과 함께 정량적 분석 방법을 제시하였다는데 의의가 있다.

  • Today, facilities are composed of many complex components or parts. Because of this characteristics, the frequency of failures is decreasing, but the strength of failures is increasing; therefore, the failure analysis about many complex components or parts was needed. In the former research about Fault Tree Analysis, failure data of similar facilities have been used for forecasting about target system or components, but in case that the system or components for forecasting failure is new or qualitative and quantitative data are given simultaneously, there are many difficulty in using Fault Tree Analysis with this incorrect failure data. Therefore, this paper deal with the Fault Tree Analysis method which be applied with Fuzzy theory in above case. In case that , therefore, if there is no the correct failure data, it is represented a system or components as qualitative variable. subsequently, it converted to the quantitative value using fuzzy theory, and the values used as the value for failure forecast.

Dynamic fracture instability in brittle materials: Insights from DEM simulations

  • In this article, the dynamic fracture instability characteristics, including dynamic crack propagation and crack branching, in PMMA brittle solids under dynamic loading are investigated using the discrete element method (DEM) simulations. The microscopic parameters in DEM are first calibrated using the comparison with the previous experimental results not only in the field of qualitative analysis, but also in the field of quantitative analysis. The calibrating process illustrates that the selected microscopic parameters in DEM are suitable to effectively and accurately simulate dynamic fracture process in PMMA brittle solids subjected to dynamic loads. The typical dynamic fracture behaviors of solids under dynamic loading are then reproduced by DEM. Compared with the previous experimental and numerical results, the present numerical results are in good agreement with the existing ones not only in the field of qualitative analysis, but also in the field of quantitative analysis. Furthermore, effects of dynamic loading magnitude, offset distance of the initial crack and initial crack length on dynamic fracture behaviors are numerically discussed.

Gametogenic Cycle by Quantitative Statistical Analysis and the Biological Minimum Size in Protothaca (Notochione) jedoensis (Bivalvia: Veneridae) in Western Korea

  • The gametogenic cycle, the spawning season and the biological minimum sizes in female and male Protothaca (Notochione) jedoensis were investigated by quantitative statistical analysis. In females, monthly changes in the percents of the follicle areas to the ovarian tissue areas and the percents of the oocyte areas to the ovarian tissue areas increased in February and reached the maximum in April, and then gradually decreased from May to July, with the spawning peak between June and July. In males, monthly changes in the percents of the testicular tissue areas to total tissue areas and the percents of the spermatogenic stage areas to the testicular tissue areas increased in February and reached the maximum in April, and then showed a rapid decrease from May to July. From these data, it is apparent that the number of spawning seasons in female and male P. (N.) jedoensis occurred once a year, from May to July. Therefore, P. (N.) jedoensis in both sexes showed a unimodal gametogenic cycle during the year. Compared the gametogenic cycle by quantitative statistical analysis in 2007 with the previous qualitative results of this species, the results of the gametogenic cycle calculated by quantitative statistical analysis showed some differentiations in the spawning seasons evaluated by the gonad index by qualitative histological analysis. The intervals of the beginning of two spawning seasons showed one month between the results of quantitative and qualitative analyses. The biological minimum sizes (considering to 50% of group sexual maturity) in female and male clams by quantitative analysis of this species are 32.01 mm in shell length in females and 30.58 mm in males, respectively. According to the mean shell length fitted to von Bertalanffy's equation, 30.58 and 32.01 mm in shell length were considered to be two years old. Therefore, we assume that both sexes of this population begin reproduction from two years of age.

Character Analysis of Silkworm Strains Registered as Genetic Stocks in Korea

  • In order for further systematic maintenance of silkworm stocks kept in Korea we analyzed character quality of a diverse array of silkworm strains originated from several sericulture-practicing countries. The analysis of about ten qualitative characters from 67 strains (13 of Japanese strains, 15 of Chinese strains, 14 of European strains, 6 of Korean and Tropical strains, and 19 of unknown origin) revealed a significant difference in the ten different qualitative characters among silkworm strains. In the analysis of quantitative characters, Japanese and European strains were highest in hatchability, the Korean and Tropical strains were highest in pupation rate, and unknown origin and Chinese strains were highest in cocoon yield and number of egg laid. With the connection of molecular genetic analysis the current data may provide the advanced ground for further systematic maintenance of valuable genetic resources of silkworms, although more breeds should be investigated for further complete pictures.

1990년대 스트리트 패션에 나타난 해체주의 경향 -S/S 프레타포르테 콜렉션을 중심으로- (Deconstruction of the Street Fashion in 1990s -Focus on S/S pret-a-porter Collections-)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate deconstructive trends of the street fashion in the 1990s spring/summer(S/S) Collections. This study was carried out by both the qualitative analysis and the quantitative analysis. In the qualitative analysis, the important street fashion was grouped and deconstruction was sampling of category. In the quantitative analysis, it took frequency, percentage and $\chi$$^2$-test. The results of the quantitative analysis are as follows: 1. \"N대-Hippie/Grunge\" has been most popular street fashion through the 1990s. The next is \"Sportive Casual\". 2. According to \"deconstructive inner meanings\", there are significant differences between the S/S street fashion in the 1990s. In \"N대-Mods/Jazz\" style, \"Sportive Casual style\" and \"Technos/Cyber-punk\" style, \"Intertextuality\" is high. In \"N대-Hippie/Grunge\" style, \"Exhibition of Otherness\" is high. 3. According to the \"deconstructive outer description\", there are also significant differences between the S/S street fashion in the 1990s. But, In \"Neo-Mods/Jazz\" style, \"Not Included\" is high, which means the \"N대-Mods/Jazz\" isnt related to the \"deconstructive outer description\". In \"N대-Hippie/Grunge\" style, \"Poverty.outworn\" is high. In \"Sportive Casual\", \"Exposure\" is high. In the \"Technos/Cyber-punk\", \"Destruction.Division\" is high.
