A Study on Magnetic Abrasive (자기 연마재에 관한 연구)

  • The magnetic polishing is the useful method to finish some machinery fabrications by using magnetic power. This method is one of the precision techniques and has an aim for clean technology in the transportation of the pure gas in the clean pipes. The magnetic abrasive polishing method is not so common in the field of machine that it is not known to widely. There are rarely researcher in this field because of non-effectiveness of magnetic abrasive. Therefore, in this paper we deals with the development of the magnetic abrasive with the use of Sr-Ferrite. In this development, abrasive grain A has been made by using the resin bond fabricated at low temperature. And magnetic abrasive powder was fabricated from the Sr-Ferrite which was crushed into 200 mesh. The XRD analysis result shows that only A abrasive and Sr-Ferrite crystal peaks were detected, explaining that resin bond was not any more to contribute chemical reaction. From SEM analysis, we found that A abrasive and Sr-Ferrite were strongly bonding with each other.

  • Flammability, and released toxic halogen gases during combustion about two kinds of flame-retardant flexible foam(F.R. flexible PV foam) were investigated. One of the above was F.R. flexible PU foam with the containment of halogen and the other was manufactured with pure flexible PU foam in aqueous solution of alumina trihydrate(ATH) and dried 4 hours at 10$0^{\circ}C$. Flammability by L.O.I and UL94 HF-1 of the two materials were similarly shown. And combustion gases were analyzed with GC-Mass. HCI, CI$_2$ and HF were detected at both halogen being contained F.R. flexible PU foam and ATH dolng one The reason, to find halogen gases from burning ATH-containing F, R. flexible PU foam which wasn't used for any halogenated F.R., could be considered as by using trichlorofluoromethane with blowing agent to make PU foam. The relative quanity of relesed halogen gases of F.R. flexible PU foam with the containment of halogen had been indicated tree times HCI and CI$_2$, two times HF than ATH containing, respectively.

Effect of Fe on the High Temperature Oxidation of TiAl Alloys (TiAl 합금의 고온 산화에 미치는 Fe의 영향)

  • To understand the effect of Fe on the oxidation behavior of TiAl alloys, TiAl-(2, 4, 6at% )Fe were oxidized at 800 and 90$0^{\circ}C$ in air. The oxidation resistance of TiAl-Fe alloys increased with increasing an iron content. The scales formed consisted of an outer $TiO_2$ layer, an intermediate $A1_2$$O_3$ layer, and an inner mixed ($TiO_2$+$A1_2$$O_3$) layer, being similar to other common TiAl alloys. But, the scales formed on TiAl-Fe alloys were generally thin compared to those formed on pure TiAl, and contained dissolved iron. Below the oxide scale, an oxygen affected zone was formed. This beneficial effects of Fe on increasing the oxidation resistance and scale adherence of TiAl alloys were attributed to the refinement of oxide grains, increased scale adherence and the enhanced alumina-forming tendency.

Pyrolytic Carbon Coating on A Simulated Fuel by Fluidized Bed Type Chemical Vapour Deposition

  • Pyrolytic carbon layer was coated on A1203 balls by fluidized bed type chemical vapour deposition unit to develop the coating technology for the preparation of coated nuclear fuel. The deposition was carried out at the temperature ranges between 110$0^{\circ}C$ and 130$0^{\circ}C$ with various gas contents and flow rates. Source and carrier gas were propane and argon, respectively. X-ray analysis shows that the deposition layer was typical carbon spectra. The growth rate of carbon layer depended on the amount of source gas and the deposition temperature. For the alumina balls with 2mm in diameter, the deposition rate was 11${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/hr in the flow gases containing 30% source gas at 130$0^{\circ}C$ with a total flow rate of 2.0$\ell$/min. Microstructural observation of the deposits with scanning electron microscope revealed that the deposits had relatively dense and isotropic structure. Chemical analysis by energy dispersive spectroscopy showed that the layer was pure carbon.

A Study on the Alumina Ceramic Composite Dispersed With the Zirconia (지르코니아-알루미나 세라믹 복합재료에 관한 연구)

  • The effects of the addition of either monoclinic $ZrO_2(pure)$ or tetragonal $ZrO_2$ containing 5.35wt% $Y_2O_3(Y-TZP)$ on the mechanical properties and thermal shock resistance of $Al_2O_3$ ceramics were investigated. The addition of $ZrO_2$(m) and Y-TZP increased sintered density of $Al_2O_3$. The Vickers hardness also increased as the volume fraction of Y-TZP increased going through a maximum at 20wt%. The hardness of the specimens was found to be dependent on the sintered density. The higher volume fraction of either $ZrO_2(m)$ or Y-TZP resulted in the higher fracture toughness of the composite was. This result may be taken as evidence that toughening of $Al_2O_3$ can be achieved by not only the transformation toughening but microcrack toughening of $ZrO_2$. The thermal shock property for $Al_2O_3-ZrO_2$ composites was improved by increasing the volume fraction of monoclinic $ZrO_2(pure)$. The grain size increased as the volume fraction of $ZrO_2$ did.

  • Ultra-fine alumina, ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$, with ${\phi}$ = 0.1∼0.5 ${\mu}$m was obtained from pure ammonium aluminum sulfate(alum) as the thermal decomposition product. Pure alum(> 99.7%) could be prepared by the precepitation and the successive recrystallization in an acidic aqueous solution at pH = 1.5∼2.5, which was theoretically predicted by only considering the concentrations of hydroxide and carbonate for aluminum and sodium in the solution, and also experimentally confirmed as the optimum precepitation condition for alum without forming any impurities like aluminum hydroxide or sodium one.

And magnetic material was fabricated from the sludge which were crused into 200 mesh and average diameter ${\o}$1.2mm ball type. The XRD analysis result show that only WA and GC abrasive and sludge crystal peaks detected which explains resin bond was not any more chemical reaction. From SEM analysis it tis found that WA and GC abrasive and sludge were stron bonding with each other by bond.

The Dielectric Properties of BaTiO3/SrTiO3 Heterolayered Thick films by Screen Printing Method

  • The $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ heterolayered thick films were fabricated by the screen printing method on alumina substrates. The effect of the sintering temperature on the microstructure and dielectric properties of the $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ thick films has been investigated. The relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss at 1 MHz of the $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ heterolayered thick films with sintering temperature of $1350^{\circ}C$ were about 751 and 1.74, respectively. The remanent polarization $(P_r)$ of the pure $(Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5})TiO_3$ and $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ heterolayered films are approximately $5.1\;{\mu}C/cm^2$ and $10\;{\mu}C/cm^2$. This study suggests that the design of the $BaTiO_3/SrTiO_3$ heterolayered thick films capacitor with different phase should be an effective method to enhance the dielectric and ferroelectric performance in devices.

Preparation and Thermal Behavior of Monodispersed $Al_2O_3-TiO_2$ Powder Synthesized by Alkoxide Method

  • Monodispersed $Al_2O_3-TiO_2$ Powder was prepared by metal-alkoxide hydrolsis. A homogeneous nucleation/growth occurred in the solutions containing ethanol, butanol and acetonitrile, and resulted in spherical, submicrometer-sized powder. The titania and the alumina crystals were formed at $800^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$, respectively. These crystala were subsequently reacted each other beyond $1320^{\circ}C$ and formed $Al_2TiO_5$. The relative densities of sintered bodies prepared with as-received powder were examined at the temperature range of 1300-$1500^{\circ}C$ and they were about 79% at $1300^{\circ}C$. The formation of aluminum titanata decreased the relative density at the temperature range of 1300-$1450^{\circ}C$, and at above $1450^{\circ}C$, the relative density started to increase again. It was observed that $\alpha-Al_2O_3$-doped aluminum titanate was more stable than pure aluminum titante at $1200^{\circ}C$.
