  • The pulsed power system is widely available for use in pulse generator applications. Generally, the pulse generator is required for very short pulse width and high peak value. We have designed and fabricated our own pulsed type power system and through its use, we investigated microbe removal characteristics. This paper introduces a simple pulsed power system for removing various microbes caused by dirty water. This system includes a 2 times power supply circuit, IR2110 operated by using a fixed voltage regulator 7812 and 7805, and the switching MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor). We can also control this process by using a PIC one chip microprocessor. As a result, we can obtain good removing characteristics of various microbes by adjusting the charging voltage, the pulse repetition rate and the electrical field inducing time.

  • Property of optical diagnostics for pulse-discharged plasma in liquid and its biological applications to proteins are investigated by making use of high voltage Marx generator. The Marx generator has been consisted of 5 stages, where each charging capacitor is 0.5 ${\mu}F$, to generate a high voltage pulse with rising time of $1{\mu}s$. We have applied an input voltage of 6 kV to the each capacitor of 0.5 ${\mu}F$. High voltage pulsed plasma has been generated inside a polycarbonate tube by a single-shot operation, where the breakdown voltage is measured to be 7 kV, current of 1.2 kA, and pulse width of ~ 1 ${\mu}s$ between the two electrodes of anode-cathode whose material is made of tungsten pin, which are immersed into the liquids. We have investigated the emitted hydrogen lines for optical diagnostics of high voltage pulsed plasma. The emission line of 656.3 nm from $H-{\alpha}$ and 486.1 nm from $H-{\beta}$ have been measured by a monochromator. If we assumed that the focused plasma regions satisfy the local thermodynamic equilibrium conditions, the electron temperature and density of the high voltage pulsed plasma in liquid could be obtained by the Stark broadening of optical emission spectroscopy. For the investigation of the influence of pulsed plasma on biological proteins, we have exposed it onto the proteins such as hemoglobin and myoglobin. The structural changes in these proteins and their analysis have also been obtained by circular dichroism (CD) and ultraviolet (UV) visible spectroscopy.

  • The pulsed power system was widely making use good of many industrial and environments. The pulse generator generally required for short pulse duration and high peak value was forced to consider its volume and economy. In this paper, this system is designed and fabricated which has a compact size of pulse generator with switched MOSFET. We have studied the removal of rust material using Arc discharging in pulsed power system. It have tested their characteristics by adjusting variable voltage charging and pulse repetition rate. As a result, We can eliminate rust materials with this device.

  • In this paper, 10kV solid-state pulsed power modulator with high repetition rate is described. The modulator is based on a Marx generator that charges capacitors in parallel and discharges them in series. Twelve IGBTs and capacitors are connected in series to generate output voltages up to 10kV at a repetition rate of 100kHz. The volume of the modulator is 26.1 liters, and its maximum average output power is 10kW. Therefore, the compact design is achieved with a high power density of 380 W/L. Finally, it is confirmed that the pulsed power modulator can operate stably through the experiment results at 10kV 100kHz condition.

  • The pulsed plasma wire-plate reactor was analyzed on the basis of experiment, EMTP simulation and modelling method. Though the reactor has a non-linear impedance characteristics, we demonstrate that the reactor impedance can be approximately analyzed with the measured initial capacitance and average resistive component of flat zone. Using this modelling method, the influence of the reactor capacitance on the impedance matching between pulse generator and reactor can be investigated. From this, we found that the energy of 95% was delivered form pulse generator to reactor at the ratio of $C_r/C_p\cong 0.3,\; where\; C_p\; is\; pulse\; generator\; capacitance, C_r$ is reactor capacitance.

  • The pulsed plasma wire-plate reactor was modelled on the basis of experiment and EMTP simulation. The electrical phenomena in reactor is consistent with the model we suggested. Using this model, the influence of the reactor capacitance on the impedance matching between pulse generator and reactor can be analyzed. From this, we found that the energy of 95 % was delivered from pulse generator to reactor at the ratio of $C_p$/$C_r$ $\cong$ 30 %, where $C_p$ is pulse generator capacitance, $C_r$ is reactor capacitance.

  • The application of a pulsed power system is being extended to a environmental and industrial fields. The non-dissolution waste water pollutants from industrial plants can be processed by applying high voltage pulses with a fast rising time (a few nanoseconds) and short duration (nano to microseconds) in a pulsed corona discharge reactor. The nano-pulse generator with a magnetic switch has been developed. Its corona current in load can be adjusted by pulse width and repetition rate. we investigated the performance of the nano-pulse generator using the dummy load which is composed of resistor and capacitor equivalent to the actual reactor. This paper descibes the electrical characteristics of the nano-pulse generator that produces a 300 ns pulse at maximum repetition rate of 400 pps with a voltage of 40 kV across a $640{\Omega}$ load. In this paper we briefly discuss a configuration of system and test results.

  • The trend of the regulations on environmental issues are getting tight. Responding to this trend new technologies such as moving electrodes, wide pitch and pulsed power supply are also introduced in the electrostatic precipitator(EP) systems. The introduction of wide pitch and moving electrodes enhances the system performance of the EPs by improving air-flow and by improving the ash reentrainment on rapping. The power supplies for the EPs developed up to date include thyristor-based dc or intermittent type, SMPS(switching mode power supply) type and the pulsed-power supply type. The use of the pulsed ones is known to improve dust-collecting efficiency of high resistivity ash and reduces back corona occurrence in the collecting plate. There are two kinds of pulsed-power supplies; one with pulsed transformers and the other with direct dc switching devices. The latter uses rotary spark gap switches or semiconductor switches. Both have the merits and demerits: the spark gap switches are simple and robust but has short life time, hence, high maintenance cost, whereas the semiconductor switches have long life time but are costly. In this study, A high voltage power supply with superimposing voltage pulse on dc source was developed for EPs. This study describes circuit topology, operating principle of the scheme, and analysis of experimental results on Dong-Hae Power Plant. The pulsed power supply consists of a variable dc power supply with ratings of 60kV, 800mA and pulse generator which is made of high voltage thyristor-diode switch strings, an LC resonant tank and a blocking inductor. The pulse generator generates variable pulse-voltage up to 70kV using a high frequency resonant inverter with a variable dc source. Two prototypes were built and tested on 250MW DongHae power plant to verify the possibility of the commercial use and the normal operation in the transient states.

  • In this paper, the impedance characteristic of wire-plate pulsed plasma reactor was investigated by experiment. The experiment have carried out under the several conditions of voltage, wire length and wire-plate distance. The impedance of reactor wad decreased with increasing voltage and wire length. The nature of discharge in reactor was changed from streamer corona to spark with increasing incident energy, from which we understood the critical energy density between the two discharges. Fromthis experiment, we proposed the method for the impedance matching between pulse generator and pulsed plasma reactor. Additionally, we succeeded in the analysis ofstray inductance of 0.5MW reactor using EMTP (ElectroMagnetic Transients Program). This means that EMTP is also useful for the analysis of inevitable stray inductance of forthcoming a large scale reactor.
