  • This study deals with an evaluation method for testing the robustness of the 4 kW commercial power electronic cooling system to the thermal environment. The power electronic cooling system consists of a cascaded push-pull DC / DC converter, a three-phase DC / AC inverter, and an electric compressor. The system manufactured by the thermal environment evaluation test (heat distribution test, thermal impact test, high temperature operation test, temperature cycle test, low temperature operation test) for the commercial electric power cooling system for commercial vehicle proves that it is robust against thermal environment.

  • Precast concrete (PC) structure is one of the type of the structures which is made in a facility prior to installing it to a construction field. The contact surfaces between two PC structures should be treated for obtaining enough binding force by inducing prestressing force. However, in the many cases, the contact surface causes the crack and leakage of water. These cracks and water leakage can cause the corrosion of the rebar, and the corrosion of the rebar can severely reduce the long-term durability. In this study, the SMA wire connector is suggested to solve the problem with the contact surfaces between two PC structures. The pull-out resistance of the suggested SMA wire connector is evaluated by conducting the tests to find the effect of the number of wires, shape of connector part, and shape memory effect. As a result of this study, the empirical formula is suggested to estimate the pull-out resistance related with the effects of the shape of the connector, shape memory effect, and the adhesive force. The validity between the estimated pull-out resistance and the measured value is confirmed.

  • Welding was widely used in shipbuilding industries as a joining method. In present study, the effects of welding fume contaminated on steel surface on corrosion protection were examined by water ballast simulation test and condensation chamber test. Pull-off adhesion test, blistering test and cathodic disbondment test were carried out to evaluate the effects of residual welding fume. Consequently, it was clearly indicated that the residual welding fume didn't affect the corrosion protection of epoxy coated on steel when surface was treated by light sweep blasting to heavy sweep blasting which was applied in this study.

  • From the perspective of commercializing rotating machines equipped with magnetic bearings, maintaining the error between the mechanical center and the magnetic center within an acceptable level is crucial. The existing method of measuring the center error is to adjust the position references that minimize the current imbalance present in levitation control outputs. However, this method can be applied only after all the components of the system are operational. In this paper, we present a new method of estimating the center error by using only the position sensors and a current source. A force model that relates the position of the rotor with the coil currents is set up. Using this model, the center error is estimated by minimizing the difference between the force angles and the contact angles measured in a pull test. The feasibility of the method is numerically and experimentally validated.

  • The factors affecting shear strength and friction characteristics of the fiber-mixed soil can be classified into engineering properties of soil; particle-size, distribution, and particle shape, physical and mechanical properties of fiber; shape, length, diameter, tensile strength, elastic modulus, friction coefficient, and mixed ratio and external factors; confined stress and compaction condition. In this study, a series of shear friction tests and pull-out tests were performed to evaluate the friction properties of fiber-mixed soil according to soil type, fiber type, fiber mixed ratio and compaction degree. The materials and test conditions used in this study are as follows. Soils: SM and ML; mixing fibers: three types of polypropylene fibers(net type 38mm and 60mm, and line type 60mm); reinforcement: geogrid; mixing ratio: 0.2% and 0.3%; degree of compaction : 85% and 95%.

  • Through a series of bollard pull tests of a propeller in partially submerged condition, thrust, torque, and shaft excitation force of a conventional propeller model were measured using a six-component load cell. By variation of the Weber number and Reynolds number, a consistent towing tank model test condition was derived. The effects of propeller immersion depth on the ventilation behavior and change of force and moment acting onto the propeller shaft were investigated. The decrease in thrust owing to the inception of ventilation was confirmed, and a large degree of dispersion of the thrust and torque coefficients were also observed in the transition region where the blade tip was under the water surface. The shaft excitation force was derived from the force and moment onto the propeller shaft.

  • The demand for lightweight and high-strength materials is increasing. However, studies on the bond of concrete and reinforcing bars for high-strength lightweight concrete with a compressive strength of 120 MPa and a unit weight of 20 kN/m3 to structural members are lacking. Therefore, in this paper, 108 specimens of high-strength lightweight concrete with a compressive strength of 120 MPa and a unit weight of about 20 kN/m3 were fabricated, a direct pull-out test was performed, and the bond characteristics were evaluated by comparing the test results with design code. Compared to the decrease in unit weight, the solid bubble shows relatively little reduction in compressive strength and modulus of elasticity. It was f ound to have larger slip and parameter values than concrete with low compressive strength and unit weight.

  • Polymer-cement composites are known repair materials. The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of various amount of dispersion of carboxylated styrene-butadience copolymer on the selected mechanical properties of polymer-cement concrete (PCC) and on its adhesion to ordinary concrete. The compressive, flexural and tensile strengths as well as frost resistance and fracture resistance of the composites are tested. Adhesion strength of PCC to ordinary concrete, as one of most important performance of good repair material is evaluated and analyzed using three test methods. The results obtained in standard pull-off test are compared with the two other tests. The first one, which is an adaptation of WST (wedge splitting test) characterizes crack propagation in the plane of bond created during repair. In the second test the resistance to shear is a measure of adhesion strength.

  • The ERS(Embedded Rail Track system) is constructed in the world due to a slab track system having maintenance free, high structural safety, and deduction of noise and vibration. The ADRI-ERS is developed as Korean type. This paper shows that the design of ADRI-ERS and experiments according to DIN EN 13481-5 and Korea high speed train test guidelines. The ADRI-ERS has high structural safety in pull-out test, longitudinal resistance test, and fatigue test. The design method of ADRI-ERS is proposed by two design constants due to the result of experiments also.

  • 1) Puerariae Radix butanol ext. (100, 200, 400mg/kg, p.o. single treatment) alone partly showed blood pressure decreasing effect in SHRs and increasing effect of urinary volume in normal rats. 2) Cadmium nitrate (10mg/kg, s.c. single treatment) induced toxicity such as body weight decreasing effect, antidiuretic effect and muscle relaxant effect such as pull-up test, traction test and rota rod test in rats. However, Puerariae Radix butanol ext. (100, 200, 400mg/kg, p.o. single treatment) showed antidotal effects on the above and also in acute toxicity test when coadministered with both of them. 3) Cadmium nitrate (1mg/kg, s.c. 7 days consecutive treatment) did not showed toxicity in body weight change, blood pressure, change, serum biochemical parameters in rats. Puerariae Radix butanol ext. (100, 200, 400mg/kg, p.o. 7 days consecutive treatment) did not also showed any antidotal effects when coadministered with both of them for 7 days.
