The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of socio-demographic variables, adult attachment and emotion regulation style on psychological well-being of university students. We conducted a survey on 318 university students in Cheongju-si and Hongseong gun. T-test, Pearson' productive correlation, hierarchical regression analysis were used. The results were as follows: First, there was a significant difference in emotion regulation style according to university student's sex. In other words, females used more support-seeking style than males did. Second, male university students' psychological well-being was high at more active style, less anxiety attachment and avoidant/distractive style, older students, less avoidance attachment, and higher economic status. Third, female university students' psychological well-being was high at less avoidant/distractive style and more active style, older students, less anxiety attachment, and more support-seeking style. In conclusion, emotion regulation style was the strongest factor to increase university student's psychological well-being among other variables. The implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
The main purpose of this study was to assess the effects of SES, mother's psychological well-being, child-rearing behavior and child's peer relationship on school adjustment. A total of 237 children enrolled in the 5th and 6th grade and their mothers were used for this study. Data was collected via questionnaires completed by children and their mothers. The path analysis of antecedent variables influencing child's school adjustment revealed two different patterns. Firstly, socioeconomic status influenced child's school adjustment through maternal psychological well-being. Secondly, maternal psychological well-being affected by socioeconomic status contributed to child's school adjustment through positive child-rearing behavior and positive peer relationship. Focusing on maternal psychological well-being and mother's child-rearing behavior, the implication for promoting child's school adjustment are discussed.
This study examines the effect of adult-children support network on the psychological well-being of the single and couple elderly households in rural areas. Adult-children support networks include both structural and functional characteristics. For the purpose of this research, 476 participants, who are older than 60 years old, living in rural areas, were selected. The results of this study are summarized as follows: the average degree of psychological well-being of the rural elderly was high. Emotional support from adult children was higher than economic or instrumental support. In the case of the single elderly households, adult children's economic support was the strongest variable affecting the psychological well-being. In the case of the couple elderly households, adult children's emotional support had the greater effect on psychological well-being. On the basis of this analysis, policy implications regarding the single and couple elderly households in rural areas were discussed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between psychosocial working conditions and psychological well-being depending on the gender among Korean interactive service workers. Methods: This study was a secondary analysis of the data extracted from the 2011 Korean Working Conditions Survey. For the present analysis, 15,669 workers who interact with others at work were selected. Based on the existing literature, a set of variables was chosen from the KWCS. Psychological well-being was measured using the WHO-5 well-being index. Results: The prevalence of poor psychological well-being was significantly higher among men (43.1%) than women (39.6%). Women were more likely to be exposed to demands for hiding emotions, bullying, and discrimination, whereas men were more likely to be exposed to psychological job demands, cognitive demands, demands for responsibility, role conflict and long working hours. Most factors were associated with poor well-being among women and men except demands for hiding emotions, skill discretion and development, physical violence, and sexual harassment. Conclusion: Based on these results, some practical suggestions are offered to help interactive service workers adjust to their duties.
Previous research has empirically demonstrated the negative effects of social media use on young people's psychological well-being. Unlike most previous studies that focused on either Facebook or Instagram, this study comparatively examined the differences in upward comparison and its effects on self-esteem, life satisfaction, and depression between Facebook and Instagram. An analysis of survey data from 641 Korean college students, who reportedly use these two social media more actively than any other age group, found that college students experience more upward comparisons on Instagram than on Facebook. Upward comparisons on both Facebook and Instagram increased by college students' age and weekly usage time. Upward comparisons on Instagram increased by the additional factors of gender (females more than males) and number of "followings." Subsequently, the effects of upward comparison on psychological well-being were found to differ by social media platform. Upward comparisons were found to negatively impact all determinants of psychological well-being only on Instagram, but not on Facebook. The differences in upward comparison and its impact on young users' psychological well-being found in this study were discussed in terms of the different functional characteristics of the two social media platforms, which provides direction for further research needed to establish guidelines for healthy social media use by young people.

This study examined the effects of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness (AEE) on psychological maladjustment and subjective well-being. Furthermore, we examined the moderating effect of collectivism on the relationships between AEE, psychological maladjustment and subjective well-being. Many Korean psychologists have suggested a moderating effect of collectivism on the relationship between ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and psychological adjustment, but there are few studies that have examined these relationships. Consequently, it is necessary to investigate these effects. Data concerning AEE, individualism, collectivism, psychological maladjustment (BSI), and subjective well-being were collected from 138 adults in South Korea. To test the moderation effects, multiple regression analyses was conducted. Results found AEE increased psychological maladjustment and decreased subjective well-being. However, the moderating effect of collectivism was not found in the relationship between AEE and psychological maladjustment, as well as AEE and subjective well-being. The difference of emotion suppression and AEE regarding cultural orientation and clinical implication of these findings were discussed.
The purpose of this study is to find out impact of physical health, family strength and psychological well-being on college students in Korea, and to use it as a basic data in developing psycholohgical well-being promotion interventions for college students. The study was composed of 125 students who were studying in 4-year system at colleges. Data were collected from September 1st to October 31st, 2019. Data analysis included an independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression using the SPSS 23.0 program. As a result of this study, psychological well-being of those was significantly correlated with physical health and family strenth. In a regression analysis, psychological well-being accounted for 28% of the variance of family strength, physical health and Club activity. The most significant factor affecting the success of psychological well-being was family strength (β=0.34, p<.001). The result of the study indicate the importance of consideration with family strength for psychological well-being of college students.
The purpose of this study is to explore the relative influence of psychological well-being and social support on the burnout of infant care teachers. Participants were 194 infant care teachers from 52 infant daycare centers in Gyeong-gi-do. Psychological burnout was assessed by the Maslach Burnout Inventory(Lee, 2011), psychological well-being was measured by the Psychological well-being scale(Cho & Cha, 2001) and social support was measured by the social support questionnaire(Bak, 1985). Date were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analysis, t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The major results of this study were as follows; First, there were differences in burnout in terms of marital status, work experiences, classroom operation type and income. Second, Infant care teachers' burnout was negatively correlated with psychological well-being and social support. Third, the most influential factor on infant care teachers' burnout was purpose in life, the second most influential factor was self-acceptance, the third most influential factor was emotional support, and the least influential factor was environmental mastery. Results of this study indicate that a psychological well-being enhancement program should be developed and emotional support from a social relationship network should be enhanced in order to prevent infant care teachers' burnout.
This exploratory study investigated the effects of the interaction between the experience of social exclusion and the presence or absence of a companion animal on the psychological well-being of individuals. Participants answered questions about whether or not they were respected by the community (yes or no); whether or not they currently have a companion animal (yes or no); and if they do, what kind of animal(s) they raise (multiple answers allowed). The study also assessed the psychological well-being of the participants. The group that experienced social exclusion demonstrated lower levels of psychological well-being than the group that did not. In addition, the group that reported the presence of at least one companion animal evinced higher levels of psychological well-being than the group that did not. Individuals who experienced social exclusion but lived with at least one companion animal were found to display superior psychological well-being than those who could not avail of the company of an animal. No difference in psychological well-being was found between those with a companion animal and those without one in the group that did not experience social exclusion. In conclusion, this study observed the effects of the binary interactions between social exclusion (experienced vs. not experienced) and the existence of companion animals (presence vs. absence) on the psychological well-being of people. The empirical data offer theoretical implications for the conditions in which companion animals do or do not improve psychological well-being in humans.
