The purpose of this paper is to review the relationship between job stress responses(physiological response, psychological response, behavioral response) and occupational accidents/illness, and the moderating effect of social support. Based on the responses from 187 employees in small & medium manufacturing industry, hierarchical regressional analysis showed that physiological response has positive relationship with accidents and illness, and psychological response has positive relationship with accident. Social support has partly moderating effect on the relationship between job stress responses and occupational accidents/illness.
This paper reviewed the relationship between job stress and human error, and the moderating effect of age and maintenance type on the relationship between job stress and human error in maintenance personnel. Based on the responses from 450 maintenance personnels, the results of multiple regression analysis showed that physiological and psychological stress responses have positively related with human error. In moderating effect test, age appeared to impact on the relationship between physiological/behavioral stress and human error.

This study verified the effect of a combined forest/thermal therapy (FT/TT) program on participants with depressive symptoms and smoking or alcohol dependence. The participants included 20 people in the experimental group and 18 people in the control group. The experimental group participated in the FT/TT program for 2 nights and 3 days at the National Center for Forest Healing, in Hoengseong (National Hoengseong Supchewon), and a charcoal kiln operated by the Gangwon Charcoal Farming Association. The control group carried out their daily life for the same period. Psychological, physiological, and biochemical tests were conducted to determine the effect of the program. The results showed that there were significant improvements in stress, anxiety, depression, sleep quality, sleep satisfaction, and IL-6 levels. However, no significant difference was found in the cortisol, serotonin and melatonin levels between the experimental and control groups. Thus, the FT/TT therapy had psychological and biochemical effects on individuals with depression and nicotine or alcohol dependency. Further studies should be conducted to verify the effect of forest healing in various conditions.
The purpose of this study is to analyze psychological and physiological effects accordance with viewing and walking in the forest and urban area. In the result of measurement of physiological reactions in nervous system, viewing of the forest had a calming effect on the nervous system by reducing blood pressure and heart rate. The other hand, viewing and walking in the urban area compared to the forest area raised stress by increasing blood pressure and heart rate. In addition, viewing in forest area was effective in stress relief by noticeable reduction of the amylase concentration. In contrast, walking in the urban area was also confirmed an increase of stress by increasing the concentration of the amylase. A viewing and walking in forest area was effective in alleviating depressed on anxiety, anger, fatigue and confusion.
This study was conducted to investigate the response of the human body to stress induced by wall recording of subway stations in the city center. The experiment was conducted as a simulation exercise, and six images were selected and produced based on Subway Line 2, a representative underground space in Seoul. The study participants included 24 male and female college students. A three-minute experiment was conducted, during which the participants were shown the control image and green wall image once each. To measure psychological status, the following measurement indicators were used: Semantic Differential, Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Physiological changes were investigated by tracking participants' heart rate and blood pressure. Results showed that parasympathetic and sympathetic nerves were activated in the presence of the green wall in the subway station. The psychological evaluation analysis revealed that negative affect toward underground space decreased, while positive affect increased. This study found that the green wall in subway stations has a stable effect on the human body, both psychologically and physiologically. In the future, green walls in underground spaces can be used to reduce psychological stress and increase physiological relaxation.
Purpose: The aims of this study were to construct a hypothetical structural model which explains premenstrual coping in university students and to test the fitness with collected data. Methods: Participants were 206 unmarried women university students from 3 universities in A and B cities. Data were collected from March 29 until April 30, 2016 using self-report structured questionnaires and were analyzed using IBM SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 18.0. Results: Physiological factor was identified as a significant predictor of premenstrual syndrome (t=6.45, p<.001). This model explained 22.1% of the variance in premenstrual syndrome. Psychological factors (t=-2.49, p=.013) and premenstrual syndrome (t=8.17, p<.001) were identified as significant predictors of premenstrual coping. Also this model explained 30.9% of the variance in premenstrual coping in university students. A physiological factors directly influenced premenstrual syndrome (${\beta}=.41$, p=.012). Premenstrual syndrome (${\beta}=.55$, p=.005) and physiological factor (${\beta}=.23$, p=.015) had significant total effects on premenstrual coping. Physiological factor did not have a direct influence on premenstrual coping, but indirectly affected it (${\beta}=.22$, p=.007). Psychological factors did not have an indirect or total effect on premenstrual coping, but directly affected it (${\beta}=-.17$, p=.036). Conclusion: These findings suggest that strategies to control physiological factors such as menstrual pain should be helpful to improve premenstrual syndrome symptoms. When developing a program to improve premenstrual coping ability and quality of menstrual related health, it is important to consider psychological factors including perceived stress and menstrual attitude and premenstrual syndrome.
Using ordors with the different concentration of essential oils, e studied the effect of a pleasant olfactory stimulation on physiological responses. we examined psychological response, mental task and changes in cardiac, immunity and EEG in responses to 150times solution (feel easily) and 500times solution (feel with difficulty) which of essential oil (called PCK) were diluted in propylene glycol, and neutral (water). The 150times solution that was felt pleasant produced significant differences (p<0.05) in relative power change of beta activity in the left frontal region (Fp1, F3, F7) of the brain, and heart rate (HR) deceleration after mental task. these results are consistent with substantial research that has documented cardiac and EEG responses to pleasant stimuli. What is more, 150times solution increased the concentration of s-IgA know as an index of immunity.
This study was done to determine the effect of music therapy on stress and quality of life in patients undergoing hemodialysis. The research design was a nonequivalent control group pre -post test design. The subjects consisted of 21 patients who received hemodialysis in two hospitals located in Kwang Ju. The fourteen receiving treatment in one hospital were assigned to the experimental group and the seven in the other hospital to the control group. Data were gathered from December 14, 1992 to January 16, 1993 through questionnaires and physiological measurement. Data were analyzed by the SAS package using frequency, t-test, paired t-test and Pearson Prod uct - Moment Correlation Coefficient. The results of this study are summarized as follows ; 1. There were no significant differences between the two groups on stress scores and quality of life scores before the treatment. 2. The mean score on the psychological stress scale for the patients undergoing hemodialysis was 2.48 out of a maximum mean score of four, the items with high stress scores were “feeling of weakness and annoyed by everything”, “limitation of food”, “limitation of fluid”, “change in skin color” in that order. The psychological category showed the highest stress score followed by developmental, scoioeconomic and physiological stress categories in that order. 3. In the experimental group, post - test diastolic blood pressure decerased significantly(t=3.24, p=0.0064), but in the control group pre and post - test diastolic blood pressure were not different. 4. There was no difference between the two groups on the pre and post -test psychological stress scores or the depression scores. 5. The mean score of quality of life for patients undergoing hemodialysis was 2.75 out of a maxi-mum mean score of five. The category of ‘emtional state’ showed the highest score followed by ‘self - esteem’, ‘physical state and function’, ‘economic life’, ‘relationship with neighbors’ and ‘family relationship’ categories in that order. There was no significant difference in the pre and post - test quality of life scores between the two groups. 6. Hypothesis 1 that patients undergoing hemodialysis who received music therapy would have less stress than patients undergoing hemodialysis who did not receive music therapy is divided into two sub - hypotheses. 1) The first sub-hypothesis that patients undergoing hemodialysis who received music therapy would have less physiological stress than patients undergoing hemodialysis who did not receive music therapy was partly supported. Among three physiological stress indices (pulse, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure), only diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly after the treatment in the experimental group. 2) The second sub-hypothesis that patients undergoing hemodialysis who received music therapy would have less psychological stress than patients undergoing hemodialysis who did not receive music therapy was not supported. Psychological stress score and depression score were not significantly different before and after the treatment. 7. Hypothesis 2 that patients undergoing hemodialysis who received music therapy would have a higher quality of life score than patients undergoing. hemodialysis who did not received music therapy was not supported. There were no significant changes in the quality of life scores before and after the treatment.
Objectives: This study focuses on the effectiveness of a five-day target youth smoking cessation program in terms of smoking behavior, psychological characteristics, physiological changes, and 1-month maintenance of non-smoking. Methods: The participants in this one-group pre-posttest study were 91 youth smokers registered to a smoking cessation school at a hospital in Seoul. Data analyses performed include descriptive statistics, x2-test, paired t-test, and ANOVA. Results: A five-day smoking cessation program significantly decreased expired carbon monoxide level, stress, and depression. In post-intervention urine test, urine cotinine was detected in 14 of 91 participants(15.4%). In a one-month follow-up telephone survey 80.2% responded maintaining non-smoking. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the effect of a five-day smoking cessation program for adolescent smokers.
This study examines psycho-physiological effects of visual perception in super-high rise apartment exterior space. Theoretical research was used to explain the psycho-physiological effect of visual perception and case study was carried out to evaluate the physiological response of the subjects. For the physiological evaluation, six slides were chosen and the EEG was used. According to the results of the case study, the central nerve was activated by the slides with pleasant scenic views. In shows that the scenery composed of natural scenic elements effects psychological condition positively. Scenic views with natural scenery have a direct correlation with positive attitude. In conclusion, the results of this study show that the exterior space should contain natural scenic view to help users decrease their visual stress.
