Equilibrium and kinetic studies for the removal of cationic dye using banana pith

  • The large quantity of green cull bananas has the potential of being used industrially and, thereby, to improve banana economics and eliminate the large environmental problem presented by banana waste. Wastewaters from textile, cosmetics, printing, dying, food colouring, and paper-making industries are polluted by dyes. The adsorption of basic dye by waste banana pith was investigated by varying dye concentrations, adsorbent dose, particle size and agitation rate. The adsorption capacity was found to be maximum value of removal by using 0.1 g of sorbent with particle size 1mm at mixing speed 200 rpm for initial concentration 25 mg/l to reach value of approximate 89%. The Langmuir, Temkin and Freundlich adsorption models were used for mathematical description of the adsorption equilibrium and it was found that experimental data fitted very well to these models except Langmuir model. Adsorption of dye was applied on (pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order kinetics), and the experimental data was more fitted to pseudo second order. The results of this study showed that banana pith could be employed as effective and low-cost materials for the removal of dyes from aqueous solutions.

훼손비탈면 복원을 위한 콩과목본류로서 참싸리 및 낭아초의 적정파종량에 관한 연구 (The Optimal Seeding Quantity of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya Miquel and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria MATSUMURA as Leguminous Woody Plants for the Cut-slope Revegetation)

  • The purpose of the research is to identify the optimal seeding quantity of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria as leguminous woody plants for the cut-slope revegetation. To investigate the coverage ratio and appearance frequency, we divided Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria into five treatment groups with various quantities of $0.0g/m^2$, $1.0g/m^2$, $2.4g/m^2$, $3.8g/m^2$, and $5.2g/m^2$. For each treatment group, we mixed the identical quantities of herbaceous flowers (Lotus corniculatus var. japonicus, Dianthus sinensis, Aster yomena and Pennisetum alopecuroides) seeds and cool-season turfgrasses (Festuca arundinacea and Poa pratensis) seeds. In this result, as the seeding quantity of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria increased in the spray, the coverage ratio for leguminous woody plants appeared to increase whereas the coverage ratio decreased in herbaceous flowers and cool-season turfgrasses. However, when the seeding quantity of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria exceeded $3.8g/m^2$ in the spray, the coverage ratio of leguminous woody plants rather decreased compared to four treatment groups less than $3.8g/m^2$ seeding ratio. Based on the longitudinal data of coverage ratio in five treatment groups, we observed the gradual process of a short-term succession in which the dominant species shifted in the following order: First, cool-season turfgrasses; Second, herbaceous flowers; Third, leguminous woody plants. Comparing the appearance frequency of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya appeared more frequent in 2014 whereas Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria appeared to be relatively more frequent in 2015. As a result, Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria was discovered to be a dominant species among woody plants. In this study, we observed that the optimal seeding quantity of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria was $2.4g/m^2{\sim}3.8g/m^2$. Moreover, the coverage ratio of 29.1%~35.4% and appearance frequency of 4.6plants~5.8plants were found in the condition of optimal seeding quantity.

  • There are theoretical and experimental evidences for the pseudo-gap in electron doped cuprates being due to interaction between electrons and anti-ferromagnetism(AFM). A remaining issue is on how AFM correlates with pseudo-gap, and eventually with superconductivity. To elucidate the issue, we have performed temperature dependent angle-resolved photoemission studies of an e-doped cuprate superconductor $Sm_{2-x}Ce_xCuO_4$(SCCO) x=0.18 at 20K and 150K. In the case of $Nd_{2-x}Ce_xCuO_4$, the most well known e-doped cuprate, pseudo-gap disappears at around 100 K for x=0.17. Our experimental result reveals that the pseudo-gap of SCCO exists even at 150K for x=0.18. This result implies that the AFM of SCCO survives even in x=0.18, which agrees with previously reported phase diagram of SCCO. Yet, the superconductivity disappears around x=0.18 for both NCCO and SCCO in spite of the difference in the magnetic order. This result sheds a light on the disappearance of superconductivity on the over-doped side.

대기부유분진중 Pb와 가로수잎중 Pb와의 상관성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Correlation between Lead in Airborne Suspended Particulates and Leaves of Roadside Trees in Urban Area)

  • In order to evaluate the state of the environmental pollution by vehicle exhaust in Seoul area the correlation between lead in air and leaves of roadside trees has been investigated during August in 1985. The dust in the atmosphere was collected by high volume air sampler to measure the concentration of lead. On the other hand, lead as a pollution indicator was extracted from the leaves of roadside trees (Ginkgo biloba, Salix pseudo/lasiogyne, platanus occidentalis) by conventional method and their concentrations were determined. The following results were obtained : 1. Lead concentrations in the leaves of roadside trees varied with trees, for example, the average concentrations of lead in each of the leaves of Ginkgo biloba, Salix pseudo/lasiogyne and Platanus occidentalis were 20.66 ppm, 9.37 ppm, and 10.58 ppm, respectively. 2. The dust sampled along heavily traveled highways showed that lead content tended to increase with traffic volume. 3. The correlation coefficients between lead correlation in air and leaves of Gingo biloba, Salix pseudo/lasiogyne, and Platanus orientalis were 0.80, 0.85, and 0.87, respectively.

  • 본 연구에서는 원통형 액체저장탱크(cylindrical liquid storage tank)를 대상으로 적층(積層)고무받침(LRB)방식의 기초분리장치(base isolator)를 사용하였을 때의 진동감소효과를 분석하기 위하여 지진하중에 대한 유사동적실험(Pseudo-dynamic test)을 수행하였다. 유사동적실험을 효과적으로 수행하기 위하여 구조분할기법(substructuring technique)을 도입하여 액체저장탱크를 수치적으로 모형화하였으며 효율적인 수치적분방법을 실험알고리즘에 적용하였다.

  • The expected busy period for the controllable M/G/1 queueing model operating under the triadic Max (N, T, D) policy is derived by using a new concept so called "the pseudo probability density function." In order to justify the proposed approaches for the triadic policy, well-known expected busy periods for the dyadic policies are recovered from the obtained result as special cases.

유사상관계수의 개념을 도입한 범주형 변수의 축약에 관한 연구 (A Method for Reduction of Categorical Variables Based on a Concept of Pseudo-Correlation Coefficient)

  • In this paper, we propose a simple method to reduce categorical variables into smaller, but significant numbers, and also demonstrate how the proposed method can be applied to the problem of reduction that empirical research often faces in the course of data processing. For the purpose, we introduce a concept of pseudo-correlation coefficient to make it possible to use factor analysis (FA) as a tool for reducing variables. The main idea of the concept is to deal with the measures of association of categorical variables in the sense of the concept of Pearson's correlation coefficient in order to meet the input requirement of FA. Upon examination of existing measures that could play as pseudo-correlation coefficients, Cramer's V coefficient is selected for the best result among them. To show the detailed procedure of the proposed method, a specific demonstration with the data from 329 R&D projects conducted in 18 private laboratories in electric and electronics industry is presented.

  • 본 논문은 90/150 NBCA(Null Boundary Cellular Automata)에 기반한 여원 MLCA(Maximum Length Cellular Automata)를 이용하여 영상을 암호화하는 방법을 제안한다. 암호화 방법은 먼저 선형 MLCA에서 유도된 여원 MLCA를 이용하여 원 영상의 크기만큼 PN(pseudo noise) 수열을 생성한다. 그 후 생성된 여원 MLCA 수열을 원 영상과 XOR 연산하여 암호화를 한다. 마지막으로 실험을 통하여 본 방법의 유효성을 검증한다.

  • MeOH-$H_2O$, EtOH-$H_2O$, MeOH-MeCN and MeOH-$(Me)_2$CO 혼합용매계에서 pseudo-saccharinechloride의 가용매분해반응에 대한 유사일차 반응속도상수를 여러 온도에서 구하였다. Kivinen식의 n값과 Grunwald-Winstein식의 m값을 구하고 분광용매화 관계식의 파라메타들을 결정하였다. 이들 용매효과 파라메타와 활성화 파라메타들을 종합하여 볼때 Pseudo saccharinechloride의 가용매 분해반응은 $S_N2$ 반응으로 진행됨을 알았다.

The Generator Excitation Control Based on the Quasi-sliding Mode Pseudo-variable Structure Control

  • As an essential means of generator voltage regulation, excitation control plays an important role in controlling the stability of the power system. Therefore, the reasonable design of an excitation controller can help improve the system stability. In order to raise the robustness of the generator exciting system under outside interference and parametric perturbation and eliminate chattering in the sliding mode control, this paper presents a generator excitation control based on the quasi-sliding mode pseudo-variable structure control. A mathematical model of the synchronous generator is established by selecting its power, speed and voltage deviation as state variables. Then, according to the existing conditions of the quasi-sliding mode, a quasi-sliding mode pseudo-variable structure controller is designed, and the parameters of the controller are obtained with the method of pole configuration. Simulations show that compared with the existing methods, the proposed method is not only useful for accurate voltage regulation, but also beneficial to improving the robustness of the system at a time when perturbance happens in the system.
