As the intensity of urban underground space development increases, more and more tunnels are planned and constructed, and sometimes it is inevitable to encounter situations where tunnels have to underpass the river embankments. Most previous studies involved tunnels passing river embankments perpendicularly or with large intersection angle. In this study, a project case where two EPB shield tunnels with 8.82 m diameter run parallelly underneath a river embankment was reported. The parallel length is 380 m and tunnel were mainly buried in the moderate / slightly weathered clastic rock layer. The field monitoring result was presented and discussed. Three-dimensional back-analysis were then carried out to gain a better understanding the interaction mechanisms between shield tunnel and embankment and further to predict the ultimate settlement of embankment due to twin-tunnel excavation. Parametrical studies considering effect of tunnel face pressure, tail grouting pressure and volume loss were also conducted. The measured embankment settlement after the single tunnel excavation was 4.53 mm ~ 7.43 mm. Neither new crack on the pavement or cavity under the roadbed was observed. It is found that the more degree of weathering of the rock around the tunnel, the greater the embankment settlement and wider the settlement trough. Besides, the latter tunnel excavation might cause larger deformation than the former tunnel excavation if the mobilized plastic zone overlapped. With given geometry and stratigraphic condition in this study, the safety or serviceability of the river embankment would hardly be affected since the ultimate settlement of the embankment after the twin-tunnel excavation is within the allowable limit. Reasonable tunnel face pressure and tail grouting pressure can to some extent suppress the settlement of the embankment. The recommended tunnel face pressure and tail grouting pressure are 300 kPa and 550 kPa in this study, respectively. However, the volume loss plays the crucial role in the tunnel-embankment interaction. Controlling and compensating the tunneling induced volume loss is the most effective measure for river embankment protection. Additionally, reinforcing the embankment with cement mixing pile in advance is an alternative option in case the predicted settlement exceeds allowable limit.

When rainfall occurred on road tunnel, that is likely to have influence upon ventilation force in the tunnels but the tunnels ventilation system did not consider factors of rainfall. Thus, this study investigated effects of rainfall upon ventilation force in the tunnels at no rainfall and changing of rainfall by 3 dimensional numerical method. Flow rate into road tunnels decreased as many as 52.34% at rainfall of 150 mm/hr, and pressure drop of road tunnel between entrance and exit decreased as many as 22.22%, so that rainfall had influence upon ventilation force in the tunnel. The number of necessary jet fan in road tunnels is 12 at no rainfall but, when rainfall of 80 mm/hr on road tunnels, the number of necessary jet fan in road tunnels is 16, when rainfall of 150 mm/hr on road tunnels, the number of necessary jet fan in road tunnels is 17. So, factor of rainfall should be considered at estimation of ventilation system of road tunnel.
In the case of a medium length road tunnel, the installation of a smoke control facility is not mandatory so users can suffer considerable injuries if a fire breaks out. Therefore, this study analyzed the high-temperature air and toxic gas generated by fire proliferating with time when a smoke barrier is not installed and when the installation interval is 100, 150, 200, and 250 m through 3-dimensional numerical analysis, evacuation simulation, and Quantitative Risk Assessment Methodology targeting the medium length road tunnel. As a result, the diffusion of the high-temperature air and toxic gas occurring from the a fire was delayed when the smoke barrier was installed in a medium length road tunnel compared to that when it was not installed. In addition, when the installation interval of a smoke barrier was 100m and the numerical analysis target was 100m, the diffusion of high-temperature air and toxic gas generated by the fire was delayed more than in the other cases, which was most suitable for tunnel users to evacuate.

Understanding the airflow characteristics within the canopy structure installed between closely adjacent tunnels either for light adaptation or for protection from snow hazards is required for the normal ventilation as well as safety system design. Grade, horizontal alignment, cross-sectional area and shape are known to substantially influence the fire smoke behavior and their influences raise great concern for the safety design. This paper aims at studying the effects of tunnel geometrical characteristics and canopy installation on the ventilation and fire propagation through CFD analysis. In the case of 145m long canopy, 50% opening ratio is preferred with respect to the airflow pattern and ventilation efficiency. When a 20MW fire occurs in a 1.8km-long tunnel and four 1250mm reversible jet fans are instantly turned on, smoke concentration at 40m downstream of the fire decrease 13% for the upgrade tunnel with 2% gradient and increases 20% for -2% gradient, compared to the standard horizontal tunnel. Backlayering is observed within 45m-long segment toward the entrance in 2% down-graded tunnel. In a rectangular tunnel, there is no significant difference of smoke concentration as well as velocity profile from the standard crown tunnel. Three-laned tunnel shows lower level of both profiles and backlayering is detected up to 50m upstream of the fire, while the risky situation rapidly disappears thereafter.

This study was executed to review feasibility on the calculation of critical velocity with a reduced model of an actual tunnel in order to establish the optimum fire protection system for a fire in road tunnels. In a scaled model about 1/29 of an actual tunnel based on the Froude scaling, critical velocity was calculated by visualizing smoke flow and analyzing correlation with temperature. In the experiment, critical velocities at which smoke backflow length became zero showed a small difference within about 5% compared to results calculated by the Kennedy formula, and the relation between smoke flow and temperature distribution appeared similarly without getting greatly influenced by changes in fire intensity.
Fire accidents in tunnels and underground installations have resulted in significant loss in terms of life and costs. Several large research projects are launched in Europe to find cost effective ways to upgrade and make such installation more robust against accidents from fires and explosions. For one single tunnel, severe fire accidents are rare and operators and users will have very limit experience, when they do occur. There is a trend to solve the problem with high tech instrumentation and monitoring techniques and to rely on the fire brigade to play a major role in the rescue operation. These precautionary measures are very difficult to validate for the severe fires. For protection against the most critical fires, the safety has to be considered in the design of the tunnel and the technical installation validated so that it operates as indented.

When most of existing instant messengers log on server, they transmit to sever in encoding password to RC5. but RC5 don't be secured because it has been known many of password cracking tools. Also, messengers don't have any protection on the transmitted information with communicating two hosts since loging on, endangering the privacy of the user. As a counter measure, messengers need to provide security service including message encryption. In this paper, we designed a key exchange method of password representing fast, effective and high security degree, using ECC(Elliptic Curve Cryptography) that being known the very stronger than another public key cryptography with same key size. To effectively improve data transmission and its security using IPSec protocol between users, tunnel mode is introduced. Tunnel mode transmits Host-to-Host data through virtual pipelines on the Internet.
Korea urbanized rapidly, and overpopulation with high growth of the economy has resulted in decrepit facilities scattered all cities. If there is a strong wind during a fire, the fire is rapidly spread by various factors. Korea cannot build a prediction model for urban fire combustion phenomena because there are no studies that physically explain the suitable flame phenomena for its buildings. This study built a model for the generation of fire brand and includes to scattering, fall, and ignition An experiment was done using the wind tunnel facilities of the Japanese Building Research Institute (BRI). The results were used to explain the behavior of fire brand, and reflected in the fire simulation model.
