  • This paper proposes a curtailed-sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) control chart. For using the conventional SPRT control chart, the number of items inspected in a sampling point should have no restriction since items in a sampling point are inspected one by one until an SPRT Is terminated. The number of observations taken in a sampling point, however, has an upper bound since sampling and testing of an item is time-consuming or expensive. When the sample size reaches the upper bound without evidence of an in-control or out-of-control state of a process, the proposed chart makes a decision using the sample mean of all observations taken in a sampling point. The properties of the Proposed chart are obtained by a Markov chain approach and the performance of the chart is compared with fixed sample size (FSS) and variable sample size (VSS) control charts. A comparative study shows that the proposed chart performs better than VSS control charts as well as conventional FSS control charts.

  • In this paper, we study the natural star-operation defined by the set of associated primes of principal ideals of an integral domain, which is called the g-operation. We are mainly concerned with the ideal-theoretic properties of this star-operation. In particular, we investigate DG-domains (i.e., integral domains in which each ideal is a g-ideal), which form a proper subclass of the DW-domains. In order to provide some original examples, we examine the transfer of the DG-property to pullbacks. As an application of the g-operation, it is shown that w-divisorial Mori domains can be seen as a Gorenstein analogue of Krull domains.

  • Introduction of lidar technology have contributed to a wide range of applications in generating quality surface models. Accordingly, because of the importance of terrain surface models in mapping applications, rigorous studies have been performed to extract ground points from a lidar data point cloud. Although most filters have been shown abilities to extract ground points with their parameters tuned, however, most experiments revealed that there are certain limitations in optimizing filter parameters and the correction of remaining misclassified points is not straightforward. In this study, therefore, a method to improve the quality of filtered lidar data is proposed, which exploits neighboring surface properties arising between immediate neighbors. The method comprises a sequence of procedures which can reduce commission and omission errors. Commission errors occurring in low-rise objects are reduced by utilizing morphological operations. On the other hand, omission errors are reduced by adding missing ground points around step edges. Experimental results show that the qualities of filtered data can be improved considerably by the proposed method.

  • We investigate some properties of commonly used residual plots in linear regression and provide some systematic insight into the relationships among the plots. We discuss three issues of linear regression in this stream of context. First of all, we introduce two graphical comparison methods to display the variance inflation factor. Secondly, we show that the role of a suppressor variable in linear regression can be checked graphically. Finally, we show that several other types of standardized regression coefficients, besides the ordinary one, can be obtained in residual plots and the correlation coefficients of one of these residual plots can be used in ranking the relative importance of variables.

  • This paper considers a hybrid flow shop scheduling problem for the objective of minimizing the number of tardy jobs. The hybrid flow shop consists of two stages in series, each of which has multiple identical parallel machines, and the problem is to determine the allocation and sequence of jobs at each stage. A branch and bound algorithm that gives the optimal solutions is suggested that incorporates the methods to obtain the lower and upper bounds. Dominance properties are also derived to reduce the search space. To show the performance of the algorithm, computational experiments are done on randomly generated problems, and the results are reported.

  • A regression model is used in predicting the response variable given predictor variables However, in case of large number of predictor variables, a regression model has some problems such as multicollinearity, interpretation of the functional relationship between the response and predictors and prediction accuracy. A clustering method and stepwise regression could be used to reduce the amount of data by grouping predictors having similar properties and by selecting the subset of predictors. respectively. This paper proposes a prediction method combining clustering method and stepwise regression. The proposed method fits a global model and local models and predicts responses given new observations by using both models. The paper also compares the performance of proposed method with stepwise regression via a real data of ample obtained in a steel process.

  • When a feasible solution approaches to the optimal extreme point in Karmakar's algorithm, components of the search direction vector for a solution converge at a certain value according to the corresponding columns of the optimal basis and the optimal nonbasis. By using this convergence properties of Karmarkar's algorithm, we can identify columns of the optimal basis before the final stage of the algorithm. The complexity of Karmarker's algorithm with newly proposed termination criterion does not increase. A numerical experiments for the problems which were generated by random numbers are also illustrated. Experimental results show that the number of iterations required for determining columns of the optimal basis depends on problems. For all cases, however, columns of the optimal basis are exactly verified when this termination criterion is used.

  • This paper proposes a method or estimating lifetime distribution for products under two-dimensional warranty in which age and usage are used simultaneously to determine the eligibility of a warranty claim. For such a case, existing methods reduce the two-dimensional time stale to a single stale assuming that the two variables have a functional relationship. This assumption is, however, not appropriate since the functional relationship is unknown in practice. In this paper, the field age and usage data are modeled with a bivariate lifetime distribution. Method of obtaining maximum likelihood estimators is outlined, their asymptotic properties are studied and specific formulas for a bivariate Weibull distribution are obtained. The proposed model is compared with the existing one which assumes a lineal relationship between the two variables Simulation studios are performed to investigate the effect of the degree of dependency between the two variables.

  • Traditional statistical process control(SPC) applied to discrete part industry in the form of control charts can look for and eliminate assignable causes by process monitoring. On the other hand, engineering process control(EPC) applied to the process industry in the form of feedback control can maintain the process output on the target by continual adjustment of input variable. This study presents controlling and monitoring rules adopted variable sampling interval(VSI) to change sampling intervals in a predetermined fashion on the predicted process levels for integrated EPC and SPC systems. Twelve rules classified by EPC schemes(MMSE, constrained PI, bounded or deadband adjustment policy) and type of sampling interval combined with EWMA chart of SPC are proposed under IMA(1,1) disturbance model and zero-order (responsive) dynamic system. The properties of twelve control rules under three patterns of process change(sudden shift, drift and random shift) are evaluated and discussed through simulation and control rules for integrated VSI EPC and SPC systems are recommended.

  • A Manufacturing process of the power steering worm blank is analyzed by FEM aimulation. The process includes mainly three operations such as indentation, extrusion, and upsetting, which was designed bya forming equipment expert. The results of simulation are summarized in terms of load-stroke relationships, die pressure distributions, effective strain distribution, and deforming patterns for each forming operation. Also, Efforts are focused to get the reason that the tool expert designed the forming process in three operations. The results of the simulation are to be useful for the next advanced process planning in terms of good dimesional accuracy, savings in material and machining, no deforaming defects and imporvements in mechanical properties.
