  • In recent automated manufacturing systems, compressed air-based pneumatic cylinders have been widely used for basic perpetration including picking up and moving a target object. They are relatively categorized as small machines, but many linear or rotary cylinders play an important role in discrete manufacturing systems. Therefore, sudden operation stop or interruption due to a fault occurrence in pneumatic cylinders leads to a decrease in repair costs and production and even threatens the safety of workers. In this regard, this study proposed a fault detection technique by developing a time-variant deep learning model from multivariate sensor data analysis for estimating a current health state as four levels. In addition, it aims to establish a real-time fault detection system that allows workers to immediately identify and manage the cylinder's status in either an actual shop floor or a remote management situation. To validate and verify the performance of the proposed system, we collected multivariate sensor signals from a rotary cylinder and it was successful in detecting the health state of the pneumatic cylinder with four severity levels. Furthermore, the optimal sensor location and signal type were analyzed through statistical inferences.

  • Ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) is a form of cement-based material that has a compressive strength above 150 MPa, excellent ductility, and superior durability. This composite material demonstrates innovation and has the potential to serve as a viable substitute for concrete constructions that are subjected to harsh environmental conditions. Over many decades, extensive research and progressive efforts have introduced several commercial UHPFRC compositions globally. These compositions have been specifically designed to cater to an increasing variety of applications and meet the rising need for building materials of superior quality. However, the effective manufacturing of UHPFRC relies on the composition of its materials, especially the inclusion of fiber content and the proportions in the mixture, resulting in a more compact and comparatively uniform packing of particles. UHPFRC has notable benefits in comparison to conventional concrete, yet its use is constrained by the dearth of design codes and the prohibitive expenses associated with its implementation. The study demonstrates that UHPFRC presents a viable, long-lasting option for improving sustainable construction. This is attributed to its outstanding strength properties and superior durability in resisting water and chloride ion permeability, freeze-thaw cycles, and carbonation. The analysis found that a rheology-based mixture design technique may be employed in the production of UHPFRC to provide enough flowability. The study also revealed that the use of deformed steel fibers has shown enhanced mechanical qualities in comparison to straight steel fibers. However, obstacles such as higher initial costs, the requirement for highly specialized personnel, and the absence of comprehensive literature on global UHPFRC standards that establish minimum strength criteria and testing requirements can hinder the widespread implication of UHPFRC. Finally, this review attempts to deepen our foundational conception of UHPFRC, encourages additional study and applications, and recommends an in-depth investigation of the mechanical and durability properties of UHPFRC to maximize its practicality.

Development of YOLO-based apple quality sorter

  • The task of sorting and excluding blemished apples and others that lack commercial appeal is currently performed manually by human eye sorting, which not only causes musculoskeletal disorders in workers but also requires a significant amount of time and labor. In this study, an automated apple-sorting machine was developed to prevent musculoskeletal disorders in apple production workers and to streamline the process of sorting blemished and non-marketable apples from the better quality fruit. The apple-sorting machine is composed of an arm-rest, a main body, and a height-adjustable part, and uses object detection through a machine learning technology called 'You Only Look Once (YOLO)' to sort the apples. The machine was initially trained using apple image data, RoboFlow, and Google Colab, and the resulting images were analyzed using Jetson Nano. An algorithm was developed to link the Jetson Nano outputs and the conveyor belt to classify the analyzed apple images. This apple-sorting machine can immediately sort and exclude apples with surface defects, thereby reducing the time needed to sort the fruit and, accordingly, achieving cuts in labor costs. Furthermore, the apple-sorting machine can produce uniform quality sorting with a high level of accuracy compared with the subjective judgment of manual sorting by eye. This is expected to improve the productivity of apple growing operations and increase profitability.

농업용수리시설의 유지관리체제일원화에 관한 연구 - 충남지역 수리계 운영실태조사결과를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Unified Operation and Maintenance System of Irrigation Facilities in Korea - With Reference to the Survey Results on the Activities of Irrigation Fraternities in Chungnam Province -)

  • This study is aimed at identifying the national economic value of the irrigation facilities by reviewing the existing papers on economic values of the irrigation facilities and presenting current status of dual O & M problems of the irrigation facilities. This study suggested the unified O & M system rather than continuing the existing dual O & M system of irrigation facilities based on the surveyed results of the activities of irrigation fraternities in Chungnam Province. The findings and proposals for the successful unified and mono O & M system of the irrigation facilities are as follows: (1) Total number of irrigation facilities in the nation accounts for 67,582, while the total length of irrigation and drainage canals amounted to about 174,259km. On account of the total length of structural canals was estimated at 31%, much losses of water and much O & M costs have been inevitable for the full irrigation rice culture. In spite of the past heavy investment for irrigation facilities, the ratio of rain-fed and partially irrigated paddy fields accounts for 23% in 2003. Both Korea Agricultural and Rural Infrastructure Corporation (KARICO) and the city and Gun Governments have managed the irrigation facilities separately by irrigation fraternities. The KARICO have commanded 59% of irrigation paddy area with 18% of the total irrigation facilities, while the city and Gun governments covered 41% of irrigation paddy area with 82% of the existing number of irrigation facilities representing small and medium scale. (2) The 1999 demand prices of irrigation water per ton expressed in 2000 constant market price was estimated at 388 won, the supply price was amounted to 184 won per ton. Considering the supply and demand curve of the irrigation water, the existing irrigation facilities could not satisfy the demand of irrigation water. (3) In 1999, total present added value of the irrigation facilities during the economic life accounted for 48 trillion won, while total supply cost was 44.7 trillion won. The marginal benefit and cost ratio of irrigation water was 1.08. (4) The total O & M cost per year amounting to 681.1 billion won have been required to maintain and repair the existing irrigation facilities in Korea. For the successful unified O & M of irrigation facilities covering whole irrigated paddy field in Korea, 950 billion won of O & M costs are required to keep up the marginal benefit of irrigation water as 2,800 billion won per year. The total O & M cost as 950 billion won should be allocated 40%, 380 billion won for O & M costs of irrigation facilities and 60%, 570 billion won for improvement of irrigation facilities. (5) The study investigated and reviewed the present O & M status of the irrigation facilities by small and medium irrigation fraternities. Most of the farmers belong to the irrigation fraternities preferred not only unified O & M but also KARICO take-over of the whole O & M activities of the irrigation facilities. The prevailing O & M cost per 10a expended by the Corporation was amounted to 104,890 won, while that of city and Gun governments was only amounted to 4,600 won per 10a. regarding the small amount of O & M cost expended by city and Gun governments, it is evident that the existing irrigation system have been managed ineffectively and deteriorated the facilities comparing that of KARICO. In conclusion, the Government could not satisfied the demand of irrigation water by suppling water with existing irrigation facilities. Therefore new additional investment and financial support for irrigation water development should be made to convert rain-fed and partially irrigated paddy fields into fully irrigated ones. The operation and maintenance cost should be supported to keep the marginal values of rice production of existing irrigation facilities in the national economy and to modernize the obsolete irrigation facilities. By unifying the existing dual O & M systems, all the farmers belong to the irrigated paddy fields have to be equally benefited and could be increased their farm income and be stabilized their rural lives.

Effects of Partial or Total Replacement of Maize with Alternative Feed Source on Digestibility, Growth Performance, Blood Metabolites and Economics in Limousin Crossbred Cattle

  • Increasing cost and scarcity of maize has stimulated the use of alternative feed sources (AFS) in the diets of cattle. In this study, we investigated the effects of partial or total replacement of maize on nutrient digestibility, growth performance, blood metabolites, and economics in Limousin crossbred feedlot cattle. Forty-five $Limousin{\times}Luxi$ crossbred bulls were randomly assigned to the three treatment groups, orthodox diet (OD; 45.0% maize), partial replacement diet (PRD; 15% maize, 67% AFS), total replacement diet (TRD; 0% maize, 100% AFS). The growth feeding trial lasted for 98 days. Dry matter intake (DMI) and average daily gain (ADG) were recorded. The digestion trial was carried out after the end of the growth trial. Total faeces and feed samples were measured daily. Digestibilities of dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) were calculated. After the feeding trial, blood metabolites were measured in 12 animals from each group. Initial and final body weights did not differ significantly among treatment groups (p>0.05). The ADG and DMI were 1.72 and 8.66, 1.60 and 9.10, and 1.40 and 9.11 kg/d for OD, PRD, and TRD, respectively. The PRD and TRD exhibited lower ADG (p<0.01) and higher DMI (p<0.01) than OD. The DMI (%body weight) was comparable between groups (p>0.5). Feed efficiency of PRD and TRD were lower than OD (p<0.01). The DM digestibility decreased with reduced level of maize (p = 0.10), OM digestibility was higher in OD (p<0.05), and CP, NDF and ADF digestibilities were similar for all groups (p>0.05). Blood urea nitrogen (mg/dL) in PRD and TRD was higher than OD (p<0.01), while other blood parameters did not differ significantly. Feed costs ($/head/d) were 1.49, 0.98, and 0.72 for OD, PRD, and TRD, respectively (p<0.01). Feed costs per kg gain ($) were significantly lower for PRD (0.63) and TRD (0.54) than OD (0.89; p<0.01). Overall profit ($/head) and daily profit ($/head/d) did not differ significantly between treatments (p>0.05), although TRD showed the highest economic benefits overall (p<0.01). While a traditional diet maximized the growth rate, partial or total replacement of dietary maize with AFS proved economically feasible due to their lower costs and comparable nutrient digestibilities of DM, CP, NDF, and ADF. Partial replacement may prove economically competitive in the current situation of China.

도시 가로수 관리 품셈 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on Improvement Methods of Cost Estimation in Order for the Proper Management of Street Trees)

  • 본 연구는 가로수 관리의 합리적인 표준품셈 항목 및 적정 단가 설정을 통한 고품질 가로수 관리의 기초자료 제공을 목적으로 하였다. 현재 가로수 관리항목은 가로수 전정을 제외하고, 일반 조경수 품셈을 가로수 관리 품셈으로 활용하고 있다. 또한 한국전력공사에서는 표준전기품셈의 가지치기 항목을 적용하여 표준품셈 대비 강전정의 경우 평균 51%, 약전정의 경우 평균 39% 낮은 단가로 사업을 수행하고 있다. 이는 가로수 관리 품질을 유지하거나 향상시킬 수 없는 한계로 판단되었으며, 가로수 관리의 적정 단가 기준이 필요함을 뜻한다. 가로수 관리 품셈을 개선하기 위해 현업에서 투입되는 비용을 검토할 필요가 있었다. 하지만 국내의 조경 분야 실적공사비에 대한 데이터의 부재로 미국 RSMeans Building Construction Cost Data(RSMeans)의 세부항목을 검토하였다. RSMeans란 1942년부터 누적된 미국의 실적기반 적산방식으로 주로 연방교통부와 각 주정부의 도로국을 중심으로 공사비를 산정하는 데이터베이스이다. RSMeans는 지속적인 신기술 도입과 노동 및 재료비용의 계속된 변경을 반영하기 위해 매해 건설제품과 방법을 찾고 수량화하며, 생산성 비율을 조정하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 국내 조경 관리 방법과 큰 차이가 없는 RSMeans의 세부항목과 현행 인건비 등을 적용하여 실적공사비를 산출하였다. 적용 결과 표준품셈은 실적공사비와 비교하면 가로수 전지의 강전정의 경우 107%로의 양호한 비율이었지만, 약전정은 59%로 과소 설계가 되어 있었다. 또한, 관목 전정은 82%, 제초는 92%, 교목 시비는 87%, 방풍벽 설치는 91% 수준으로 과소 설계되어 있었다. 살수차 관수와 약제 살포는 각각 118%와 124%의 비율로 실적공사비와 비교하면 과대 설계된 부분도 확인하였다. 과소평가된 항목들은 가로수의 특수성으로 도로 안전통제 등으로 인건비 및 장비의 투입비 상승이 주요 원인으로 판단되었다. 향후 표준품셈의 조경 유지 관리항목에 일반 조경수뿐만 아니라 가로수에 관한 항목 추가가 필요하다.

기업의 국제화와 신 정보통신기술의 역할: 중국 Haier 기업을 사례로 (The Role of New Information and Communication Technologies in the Internationalization of Firms: A Case Study of Haier)

  • 신 정보통신기술(ICTs)이 기업의 비즈니스 처리방식을 변화시키고 있다는 점은 일반적으로 받아들여지고 있다. 예를 들어. 기업의 내부자원 관리의 효율성을 제고하기 위한 ERP(enterprise resources planning)와 BPR(business process reengineering) 활용. 공급 연줄망을 통합하기 위한 기업-기업간 e-com의 적용. 그리고 기업-고객간 e-com과 같이 새로운 마켓팅 통로의 창출 등을 들 수 있다. 기업들은 이러한 새로운 방식의 비즈니스가 기업의 생산성 증대 및 개래비용의 절감 효과를 가져온다고 확신한다. 그 결과. 신 ICTs는 다양한 제품을 생산하는 많은 소규모 기업들의 최근 성장과 국제화를 통한 공간적 확산에 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 본 연구는 중국 Haier 기업을 사례로 기업의 성장과정에 신 ICTs가 끼친 역할을 살펴본 것이다. Haier 기업은 1990년부터 2002년 시기에 초국적 기업으로 성장했는데, 그 배경으로 신 ICTs의 채택과 관련하여 기업의 국제화 과정을 연구한 것이다. 연구결과, Haier 기업의 신 ICTs의 채택은 세계 여러 지역에 위치한 기능체의 통합에 기여했으며. 이는 기업의 국제화에 필수적인 적기생산과 배달체계를 구축함으로써 세계적으로 광범위한 지역의 공급자와 구매자를 가깝게 연계시키는 결과를 가져왔다. 결론적으로 Haier 기업은 신 ICTs를 활용함으로써 10년 이내에 초국적기업으로 성장하게 되었다는 점이다.

밀 기계화 작업체계에 의한 노력 절감 효과 (Effect of Mechanical Working System on Labor-Saving in Wheat Cultivation)

  • 밀 재배면적 확대를 위해서는 노력절감을 통하여 생산비를 낮추고 농가 소득의 증가와 더불어 수입산 밀과의 경쟁력을 향상시키고자 밀 재배 작업의 단계별 체계적인 기계화로 노력절감 및 기계 이용효율 효과를 분석한 다음과 같다. 1. 밀 재배 작업 중 복토작업이 ha당 683분이 소요되어 작업소요시간이 가장 길었으며, 파종단계인 파종, 시비와 복토작업을 한번에 할 수 있는 동시작업기 이용, 제초제 살포는 승용살포기 이용으로 노력절감을 최소화 할 수 있었다. 2. 밀 파종에서 수확까지의 작업 소요시간은 ha당 부분 기계화 작업인 관행(인력)의 118시간 대비 트랙터부 착용 살포기로 밑거름 시비와 파종+트랙터부착용 배토기로 복토+승용관리기 제초제 살포+트랙터부착용 살포기로 웃거름 살포+콤바인 수확 작업체계(작업체계 I)에서 26시간으로 78% 절감되었으며, 작업체계 I에서 파종단계인 시비, 파종, 복토 작업을 트랙터부착용 동시작업기 활용 작업(작업체계 II)으로 18시간으로 85%가 절감되었다. 3. 밀의 생육, 수량구성요소 등 모두 인력에 비해 기계파종이 짧거나 적어서 수량도 떨어지는 경향을 보였다. 따라서 기계파종 방법에 따라 적합한 파종량 설정에 관한 연구가 요구되어 졌다. 4. 기계화에 따른 기계비용 부담을 감안하여 볼 때 손익분기점은 작업체계 I은 3.7ha, 작업체계 II는 4.2 ha로 판단되었으며, 농가 소득은 ha당 각각 778,110원, 849,930원이 향상되는 효과가 있었다.

호기성 호열미생물에 의한 하수슬러지 감량화 효율에 관한 연구 (A Study on Volume Reduction of Waste Sludge by Aerobic Thermophilic Bacteria)

  • Domestic Sewage Treatment Plants are mostly based on biological treatment, in which large amounts of excess sludge are generated and occupy about 40 ~ 60% of the total sewage treatment costs. Several methods for sludge treatment has been so far reported as upgrading biodegradation of sludge; heat treatment, chemical treatment, including thermo-alkali and ozone, mechanical treatment including ultrasonic pulverization. But, it has a limitation in case of reducing the amount of excess sludge which are already producted. In this study, application of excess sludge reduction process using thermophilic aerobic bacteria for activated sludge was examined. The research was carried out two different stage. one for a biological wastewater treatment and the other for a thermophilic aerobic solubilization of the waste sludge. A portion of excess sludge from the wastewater treatment step was into the thermophilic aerobic sludge solubilization reactor, in which the injected sludge was solubilized by thermophilic aerobic bacteria. The solubilized sludge was returned to the aeration tank in the wastewater treatment step for its further degradation. Sludge solubilization reactor was operated at $63{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ with hydraulic retention time(HRT) of 1.5 ~ 1.7 day. Control group was operated with activated sludge process(AS) and experiment group was operated with three conditions(RUN 1, RUN 2, RUN3). RUN 1 was operated with AS without sludge solubilization reactor. RUN 2 were operated with AS with sludge solubilization reactor to examine correlation between sludge circulation ratio and sludge reduction ratio by setting up sludge circulation ratio to 3. RUN 3 was operated with sludge circulation ratio of 3 and MLSS concentration of 1,700~2,000mg/L to examine optimum operation condition. The quantity of excess sludge production was reduced sharply and in operation of RUN 3, sludge The quantity of excess sludge production was reduced sharply and in operation of RUN 3, sludge solubilization ratio and sludge reduction ratio were 53. 7%, 95.2% respectively. After steady state operation, average concentration of TBOD, SBOD, $TCOD_{Cr}$, $SCOD_{Cr}$, TSS, VSS, T-N, T-P of effluent were 4.5, 1.7, 27 .8, 13.8, 8.1, 6.2, 15.1, 1.8mg/L in the control group and were 5.6, 2.0, 28.6, 19.1, 9.7, 7.2, 16.1, 2.0mg/L in the experimental group respectively. They were appropriate to effluent standard of Sewage Treatment Plants.
