  • In this paper, we developed a mid-range automotive radar systems based on the performance requirements and test procedures of the intelligent transport systems, that is lane change decision aid systems (LCDAS). The mid-range automotive radar has the maximum detection range up to 80m and an update time within 50ms. The computational loads of a signal processing were reduced by using ROI preprocessing technique. Considering actual driving environments, radar performance evaluations were conducted in two driving scenarios at an automotive proving ground.

High Throughput Multiplier Architecture for Elliptic Cryptographic Applications

  • Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) is one of the finest cryptographic technique of recent time due to its lower key length and satisfactory performance with different hardware structures. In this paper, a High Throughput Multiplier architecture is introduced for Elliptic Cryptographic applications based on concurrent computations. With the aid of the concurrent computing approach, the High Throughput Concurrent Computation (HTCC) technology that was just presented improves the processing speed as well as the overall efficiency of the point-multiplier architecture. Here, first and second distinct group operation of point multiplier are combined together and synthesised concurrently. The synthesis of proposed HTCC technique is performed in Xilinx Virtex - 5 and Xilinx Virtex - 7 of Field-programmable gate array (FPGA) family. In terms of slices, flip flops, time delay, maximum frequency, and efficiency, the advantages of the proposed HTCC point multiplier architecture are outlined, and a comparison of these advantages with those of existing state-of-the-art point multiplier approaches is provided over GF(2163), GF(2233) and GF(2283). The efficiency using proposed HTCC technique is enhanced by 30.22% and 75.31% for Xilinx Virtex-5 and by 25.13% and 47.75% for Xilinx Virtex-7 in comparison according to the LC design as well as the LL design, in their respective fashions. The experimental results for Virtex - 5 and Virtex - 7 over GF(2233) and GF(2283)are also very satisfactory.

  • This study is carried out to investigate performance differences between two alarm presentation methods from the viewpoint of human factors and to provide items to be improved. One of the alarm display methods considered in this study displays alarm lists on VDT combined with hardwired alarm panels. The other method displays alarms on plant mimic diagrams of VDT. This alarm display method has other features for operator aid with which operator can get detailed information on the activated alarm in the mimic diagrams, and the capability for alarm processing such as alarm reduction and prioritization. To compare the twodisplay methods, a human factor experiment was performed with a plant simulator in the ITF(Integrated Test Fcility) that plant operators run for 4 event scenarios. During the experiment, physiological measurements, system and operator action log, and audio/video recordings were collected. Operators' subjective opinion was collected as well after the experiment. Time, error rate and situation awareness were major human factor criteria used for the comparison during the analysis stage of the experiment. No statistical significance was found in the results of our statistical comparison analysis. Several findings were identified, however, through the analysis of subjective opinions.

Methods for improving meat protein digestibility in older adults

  • This review explores the factors that improve meat protein digestibility and applies the findings to the development of home meal replacements with improved protein digestion rates in older adults. Various methods improve the digestion rate of proteins, such as heat, ultrasound, high pressure, or pulse electric field. In addition, probiotics aid in protein digestion by improving the function of digestive organs and secreting enzymes. Plant-derived proteases, such as papain, bromelain, ficin, actinidin, or zingibain, can also improve the protein digestion rate; however, the digestion rate is dependent on the plant enzyme used and protein characteristics. Sous vide processing improves the rate and extent of protein digestibility, but the protein digestion rate decreases with increasing temperature and heating time. Ultrasound, high pressure, or pulsed electric field treatments degrade the protein structure and increase the proteolytic enzyme contact area to improve the protein digestion rate.

  • Nuclear power plants (NPPs) have technical specifications (Tech Specs) to ensure that the equipment and key operating parameters necessary for the safe operation of the power plant are maintained within limiting conditions for operation (LCO) determined by a safety analysis. The LCO of Tech Specs that identify the lowest functional capability of equipment required for safe operation for a facility must be complied for the safe operation of NPP. There have been previous studies to aid in compliance with LCO relevant to rule-based expert systems; however, there is an obvious limit to expert systems for implementing the rules for many situations related to LCO. Therefore, in this study, we present a retrieval methodology for similar LCO cases in determining whether LCO is met or not met. To reflect the natural language processing of NPP features, a domain dictionary was built, and the optimal term frequency-inverse document frequency variant was selected. The retrieval performance was improved by adding a Boolean retrieval model based on terms related to the LCO in addition to the vector space model. The developed domain dictionary and retrieval methodology are expected to be exceedingly useful in determining whether LCO is met.

Processing Optimization of Chocolate with Fermented and Aged Garlic Extract (발효숙성마늘 추출물 첨가 초콜릿 제조 조건의 최적화)

  • This study was conducted to aid in the development of the optimal recipe for chocolate with fermented and aged garlic extract (Allium sativum var. pekinense). We added garlic extract in order to increase the nutritional value of the chocolate. The optimal sensory composite recipe was determined, following Central Composites for chocolate with different levels of fermented and aged garlic extract (A) and cream (B), while analysis was performed by Response Surface Methodology, from the date that the sensory evaluation was performed. Ten experimental recipes, including 2 reference points in the composition, were selected. The compositional and functional properties were measured, and physical and sensory values were applied to the mathematical models. Perturbation plots showed the influence of each ingredient on the final product. Measurements showed significant values in lightness, sweetness, pH, hardness and cohesiveness, while sensory measurements showed significant values in color, texture, sourness, bitterness and overall quality. The optimum formulations were calculated by numerical and graphical methods, as being 34.61g fermented and aged garlic extract and 72.68g cream for each 200g chocolate. As well it was revealed that the aptitude of chocolate was more influenced by fermented garlic extract than it was by cream.

  • The study sought ways to promote the global recognition of Korean food items. The Korean cuisine is one of the healthiest and well-balanced in the world. But, in contrast to countries including the United States, France, China, Japan, Thailand and Australia that have adopted food promotion and marketing strategies, Korea lacks a similar strategy. Development of indigenous sauces by Korean food manufacturers and processors is one route in the promotion of Korean cuisine. Korean restaurant franchising could also aid in export of Korean food items. The food manufacturing/processing sectors must work in concert with the Korean government to globalize the Korean cuisine. Brand chefs, Korean cuisine seminars and promotional efforts in foreign countries and foreign cooking schools (such as the 'Taste Korea' campaign) are prudent actions.

  • This paper argues that the establishment of the Kaohsiung Export Processing Zone (KEPZ), the first EPZ in East Asia, is a compromise of cold-war geopolitical economy in the 1960s. The KEPZ is part of the liberalization policy advise of the US Aid agency which intended to push the KMT (Kuomintang) government to downsize the nationalized sectors and foster private enterprises and encourage foreign investments. However, the KMT state hesitated to embrace the advice wholeheartedly but was forced to implement selectively the policies. To meet the compromise between liberalization and control, the KMT government takes advantage of the KEPZ to grab the geoeconomic opportunities emerging from the new international division of labor in the 1960s without losing the geopolitical support from the US. The idea that zoning as a space of compromise would provide a subtle re-examination of the rise of the KEPZ which is conventionally explained by the functionalist arguments such as increase of employment opportunities, foreign investments and export by the far-sighted developmental state.

Processing Condition of Seasoning Material of the Mixture of Laminaria and Enzyme-Treated Mackerel Meat (다시마와 효소처리 고등어육을 이용한 조미소재의 제조 조건)

  • In order to develop a new type of natural seasoning material combining fish meat with seaweed, a processing method of the mixture of enzyme treated mackerel meat and Laminaria powder was studied. Mackerel meat previously boiled and deboned was treated with proteolytic enzyme to enhance taste of meat by proper hydrolysis. The enzyme-treated meat was dried at $100{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ for 4 hrs, and finally mixed with kelp power, moistened in advance, plus binding agents (0.02% calcium carbonate) to aid the formation of pellets by extrusion. Boiled mackerel meat of enzyme treated (0.03% Protease-A) at $50^{\circ}C$ for 90 min was adequate to result an increase in 6 times of total free amino acid content and about 10% increase of taste-enhancing amino acids such as glutamic acid, glycine, arginine, lysine.

Ultrasonic Wave Propagation Analysis for Damage Detection in Heterogeneous Concrete Materials (콘크리트 내부결함 탐지를 위한 초음파 전파 해석)

  • Ultrasonic investigation of damage detection has been widely used for non-destructive testing of various concrete structures. This study focuses on damage detection analysis with the aid of wave propagation in two-phase composite concrete with aggregate (inclusion) and mortar (matrix). To fabricate a realistic simulation model containing a variety of irregular aggregate shapes, the mesh generation technique using an image processing technique was proposed. Initially, the domains and boundaries of the aggregates were extracted from the digital image of a typical concrete cut-section. This enables two different domains: aggregates and mortar in heterogeneous concrete sections, and applied the grids onto these domains to discretize the model. Subsequently, finite element meshes are generated in terms of spatial and temporal requirements of the model size. For improved analysis results, all meshes are designed to be quadrilateral type, and an additional process is conducted to improve the mesh quality. With this simulation model, wave propagation analyses were conducted with a central frequency of 75 kHz of the Mexican hat incident wave. Several void damages, such as needle-shaped cracks and void-shaped holes, were artificially introduced in the model. Finally, various formats of internal damage were detected by implementing energy mapping based signal processing.
