  • In this study, we analyze the rattle noise of a power takeoff (PTO) driveline and develop a PTO driveline resonance model. We measured the rattle noise of the PTO driveline on the output shaft and, by analyzing the rattle noise in the time domain, we determine that the engine expansion stroke period matches the sound pressure of rattle noise. This finding helped us demonstrate that the rattle noise is caused by the collision between the PTO driving gear and the gear driven by the engine expansion stroke; the torsional vibration caused by this collision is affected by the angular velocity fluctuation of the PTO drive shaft. By measuring the angular velocity of the PTO drive shaft, we confirm that the angular velocity fluctuation of the engine flywheel tends to excessively amplify the PTO drive shaft angular velocity fluctuation. We conclude that the resonance, which occurs when the operating frequency of the engine is close to the natural frequency of the tractor power transmission system, causes the excessive angular velocity fluctuation of the PTO drive shaft. We performed a modal analysis of the PTO driveline resonance and, using the characteristic equation, we show that the resonance occurs when the engine rotation speed is close to 850 rpm, which matches the natural frequency of the PTO driveline.

  • This paper investigates the effects of acoustic forcing on NOx emissions and mixing process in the near field region of turbulent hydrogen nonpremixed flames. The resonance frequency was selected to force the coaxial air jet acoustically, because the resonance frequency is effective to amplify the forcing amplitude and reduce NOx emissions. When the resonance frequency is acoustically excited, a streamwise vortex is formed in the mixing layer between the coaxial air jet and coflowing air. As the vortex develops downstream, it entrains both ambient air and combustion products into the coaxial air jet to mix well. In addition, the strong vortex pulls the flame surface toward the coaxial air jet, causing intense chemical reaction. Acoustic excitation also causes velocity fluctuations of coaxial air jet as well as fuel jet but, the maximum value of centerline fuel velocity fluctuation occurs at the different phases of $\Phi$=$180^{\circ}$ for nonreacting case and $\Phi$=$0^{\circ}$ for reacting case. Since acoustic excitation enhances the mixing rate of fuel and air, the line of the stoichiometric mixture fraction becomes narrow. Finally, acoustic forcing at the resonance frequency reduces the normalized flame length by 15 % and EINOx by 25 %, compared to the flame without acoustic excitation.

  • The common vibration energy harvester effectively converts mechanical vibration to electric power at a specific resonance frequency that must match the ambient excitation frequency. The resonance frequencies of energy harvesters are fixed during the design process and could not be changed after fabrication. In this paper, we proposed the new frequency tuning which uses the rotatable spring in order to adjust the spring constants. By this tuning method, the resonance frequency of the system can simply be manipulated using spring rotation. The proposed energy harvester has been successfully tuned to a resonance frequency between 23 and 32 Hz. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed energy harvester could generate a maximum output power of $60{\mu}W$ with an acceleration of 0.5 g ($1g=9.81m/s^2$), and that the resonance frequency of the harvester was able to tune approximately 31.4%. When the proposed harvester was attached to an automobile engine, the maximum open circuit voltage of 1.78 Vpp was produced at 700 rpm.

  • Parametric resonance of shear deformable composite skew plates subjected to non-uniform (parabolic) and linearly varying periodic edge loading is studied for different boundary conditions. The skew plate structural model is based on higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT), which accurately predicts the numerical results for thick skew plate. The total energy functional is derived for the skew plates from total potential energy and kinetic energy of the plate. The strain energy which is the part of total potential energy contains membrane energy, bending energy, additional bending energy due to additional change in curvature and shear energy due to shear deformation, respectively. The total energy functional is solved using Rayleigh-Ritz method in conjunction with boundary characteristics orthonormal polynomials (BCOPs) functions. The orthonormal polynomials are generated for unit square domain using Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization process. Bolotin method is followed to obtain the boundaries of parametric resonance region with higher order approximation. These boundaries are traced by the periodic solution of Mathieu-Hill equations with period T and 2T. Effect of various parameters like skew angle, span-to-thickness ratio, aspect ratio, boundary conditions, static load factor on parametric resonance of skew plate have been investigated. The investigation also includes influence of different types of linearly varying loading and parabolically varying bi-axial loading.

  • In this paper, we theoretically analyzed the self-alignment/navigation performance in the accelerometer resonance state generated by dither motion of ring laser gyroscope in LINS and verified it through simulation. As a result of analysis, it is confirmed that the amplitude of the accelerometer measurement amplified in the accelerometer resonance state is decreased in the process of sampling per the navigation calculation period and that frequency is changed by the aliasing effect too. It was also analysed that the attitude error in self-alignment is determined by the amplitude/frequency of the accelerometer measurement, the gain of the self-alignment loop, and the velocity and position error in the navigation is determined by the amplitude/frequency/phase error of the accelerometer measurement. This analysis and simulation results show that the self-alignment and navigation performance is not be degraded only when the amplification factor of the accelerometer measurement in the accelerometer resonance state is 3 or less

  • $^7Li$ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra have been observed for $LiMPO_4$ (M = Fe, Mn) samples, as a promising cathode material of lithium ion battery. Observed $^7Li$ shifts of $LiFe_{1-x}Mn_xPO_4$ (x = 0, 0.6, 0.8, and 1) synthesized with solid-state reaction are compared with calculated $^7Li$ shift ranges based on the supertranferred hyperfine interaction of Li-O-M. Ex situ $^7Li$ NMR study of $LiFe_{0.4}Mn_{0.6}PO_4$ in different cut-off voltage for the first charge process is also performed to understand the relationship between $^7Li$ chemical shift and oxidation state of metals affected by delithiation process. The increment of oxidation state for metals makes to downfield shift of $^7Li$ by influencing the supertranferred hyperfine interaction.

  • The electrical properties of polyimide for interlayer dielectric applications are investigated with ECR (Electron Cyclotron Resonance) etching process. ECR etching with $Cl_2$-based plasma, generally used for aluminum etching, results in an increase in the dielectric constant of polyimide, while $SF_{6}$ plasma exhibits a high polyimide etch rate and a reducing effect of the dielectric constant. The leakage current of the polyimide is significantly suppressed after plasma exposure. Combination of Al etching with $Cl_2$plasma and polyimide etching with $SF_{6}$ plasma is expected as a good tool for realizing the multilevel metallization structures.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the structural stability of a CNC automatic lathe structure and avoid resonance. The analysis conditions were analyzed by applying the weight of the upper assembly. From the structural analysis, the stress and deformation were low, and the safety factor was high. From the dynamic characteristic analysis, it was determined that resonance does not occur because the natural frequency is outside the driving range. The error between the dynamic characteristic analysis and vibration test results is very low; thus, the reliability of the analysis results can be secured.
