In this paper, an optimal identification method using Multi-FNN(Fuzzy-Neural Network) is proposed for model ins of nonlinear complex system. In order to control of nonlinear process with complexity and uncertainty of data, proposed model use a HCM clustering algorithm which carry out the input-output data preprocessing function and Genetic Algorithm which carry out optimization of model. The proposed Multi-FNN is based on Yamakawa's FNN and it uses simplified inference as fuzzy inference method and Error Back Propagation Algorithm as learning rules. HCM clustering method which carry out the data preprocessing function for system modeling, is utilized to determine the structure of Multi-FNN by means of the divisions of input-output space. Also, the parameters of Multi-FNN model such as apexes of membership function, learning rates and momentum coefficients are adjusted using genetic algorithms. Also, a performance index with a weighting factor is presented to achieve a sound balance between approximation and generalization abilities of the model, To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, we use the time series data for gas furnace and the numerical data of nonlinear function.
How to efficiently manage assembly blocks at shipyard has been a hot management issue in the shipbuilding Industry, because it has significantly influenced on the productivity of shipbuilding process. This paper introduces the real practice of assembly block operations management in Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and the Ship Assembly Block Operations Optimization (SABOO) project that h3s been launched in HHI as an academy-and-industry collaborative project, aimed to diagnose problems, propose possible solutions, and develop a prototype system in order to search ways of improving the assembly block operations management. Through the field interviews, observations, and benchmarking studies, the SABOO project diagnosed the most rudimental and urgent problem and proposed possible solutions. In addition, the SABOO project developed the prototype system that embodied the visual function of monitoring the shipyard on a real-time and the Interactive block assignment function that utilized the assembly block assignment algorithm developed by the project. As a whole, the SABOO project tested the possibility and gained an insight in extending the functions of block transportation/stockyard management system.
This paper considers the allocation and engagement scheduling problem of interceptor missiles, and the problem was formulated by using MIP (mixed integer programming) in the previous research. The objective of the model is the maximization of total intercept altitude instead of the more conventional objective such as the minimization of surviving target value. The concept of the time window was used to model the engagement situation and a continuous time is assumed for flying times of the both missiles. The MIP formulation of the problem is very complex due to the complexity of the real problem itself. Hence, the finding of an efficient optimal solution procedure seems to be difficult. In this paper, an efficient genetic algorithm is developed by improving a general genetic algorithm. The improvement is achieved by carefully analyzing the structure of the formulation. Specifically, the new algorithm includes an enhanced repair process and a crossover operation which utilizes the idea of the PSO (particle swarm optimization). Then, the algorithm is throughly tested on 50 randomly generated engagement scenarios, and its performance is compared with that of a commercial package and a more general genetic algorithm, respectively. The results indicate that the new algorithm consistently performs better than a general genetic algorithm. Also, the new algorithm generates much better results than those by the commercial package on several test cases when the execution time of the commercial package is limited to 8,000 seconds, which is about two hours and 13 minutes. Moreover, it obtains a solution within 0.13~33.34 seconds depending on the size of scenarios.
In an environment of global competition, the success of a manufacturing corporation is directly related to how it plans and executes production in particular as well as to the optimization level of its process in general. This paper proposes a production planning algorithm for the Multi-Level, multi-item Capacitated Lot Sizing Problem (MLCLSP) in supply chain network considering back-order. MLCLSP corresponds to a mixed integer programming (MIP) problem and is NP-hard. Therefore, this paper proposes an effective algorithm, GRHS (GRASP-based Rolling Horizon Search) that solves this problem within reasonable computational time and evaluates its performance under a variety of problem scenarios.

The current study is dedicated to design a novel coordinated controller to effectively increase power system rotor angle stability. In doing so, the coordinated design of an AVR (automatic voltage regulator), PSS2B, and TCSC (thyristor controlled series capacitor)-based POD (power oscillation damping) controller is proposed. Although the recently employed coordination between a CPSS (conventional power system stabilizer) and a TCSC-based POD controller has been shown to improve power system damping characteristics, neglecting the negative impact of existing high-gain AVR on the damping torque by considering its parameters as given values, may reduce the effectiveness of a CPSS-POD controller. Thus, using a technologically viable stabilizer such as PSS2B rather than the CPSS in a coordinated scheme with an AVR and POD controller can constitute a well-established design with a structure that as a high potential to significantly improve the rotor angle stability. The design procedure is formulated as an optimization problem in which the ITSE (integral of time multiplied squared error) performance index as an objective function is minimized by employing an IPSO (improved particle swarm optimization) algorithm to tune adjustable parameters. The robustness of the coordinated designs is guaranteed by concurrently considering some operating conditions in the optimization process. To evaluate the performance of the proposed controllers, eigenvalue analysis and time domain simulations were performed for different operating points and perturbations simulated on 2A4M (two-area four-machine) power systems in MATLAB/Simulink. The results reveal that surpassing improvement in damping of oscillations is achieved in comparison with the CPSS-TCSC coordination.
Sensitivity information has been used for linearization of nonlinear functions in optimization. Basically, sensitivity is a derivative of a function with respect to a design variable. Design sensitivity is repeatedly calculated in optimization. Since sensitivity calculation is extremely expensive, there are studies to directly use the sensitivity in the design process. When a small design change is required, an engineer makes design changes by considering the sensitivity information. Generally, the current process is performed one-by-one for design variables. Methods to exploit the sensitivity information are developed. When a designer wants to change multiple variables with some relationship, the directional derivative can be utilized. In this case, the first derivative can be calculated. Only small design changes can be made from the first derivatives. Orthogonal arrays can be used for moderate changes of multiple variables. Analysis of Variance is carried out to find out the regional influence of variables. A flow is developed for efficient use of the methods. A software system with the flow has been developed. The system can be easily interfaced with existing commercial systems through a file wrapping technique. The sensitivity information is calculated by finite difference method. Various examples are solved to evaluate the proposed algorithm and the software system.
Palletizing task is well-known time consuming and laborious process in factory, hence automation is seriously required. To do this, artificial robot is generally used. These systems however, mostly user teaches the robot point to point and to avoid time-variable obstacle, robot is required to attach the vision camera. These system structures bring about inefficiency and additional cost. In this paper we propose task-oriented trajectory generation algorithm for palletizing. This algorithm based on $A^{*}$ algorithm and slice plane theory, and modify the object dealing method. As a result, we show the elapsed simulation time and compare with old method. This simulation algorithm can be used directly to the off-line palletizing simulator and raise the performance of robot palletizing simulator not using excessive motion area of robot to avoid adjacent components or vision system. Most of all, this algorithm can be used to low-level PC or portable teach pendent
Environmental planning includes resource allocation and spatial planning process for the conservation and management of environment. Because the spatialization of the environmental planning is not specifically addressed in the relevant statutes, it actually depends on the qualitative methodology such as expert judgement. The results of the qualitative methodology have the advantage that the accumulated knowledge and intuition of the experts can be utilized. However, it is difficult to objectively judge whether it is enough to solve the original problem or whether it is the best of the possible scenarios. Therefore, this study proposed a methodology to quantitatively and objectively spatialize various environmental planning. At first, we suggested a quantitative spatial planning model based on an optimization algorithm. Secondly, we applied this model to two kinds of environmental planning and discussed about the model performance to present the applicability. Since the models were developed based on conceptual study site, there was a limitation in showing possibility of practical use. However, we expected that this study can contribute to the fields related to environmental planning by suggesting flexible and novel methodology.
In this paper, the response surface method using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis to optimize the shape of a multi-blade centrifugal fan, is described. For numerical analysis, Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with standard k - c turbulence model are transformed into non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system, and are discretized with finite volume approximations. Due to the large number of blades in this centrifugal fan, the flow inside of the fan is regarded as steady flow by introducing the impeller force models for economic calculations. Linear Upwind Differencing Scheme(LUDS) is used to approximate the convection terms in the governing equations. SIMPLEC algorithm is used as a velocity-pressure correction procedure. Design variables, location of cur off, radius of cut off, expansion angle of scroll and width of impeller were selected to optimize the shapes of scroll and blades. Data points for response evaluations were selected by D-optimal design, and linear programming method was used for the optimization on the response surface. As a main result of the optimization, the efficiency was successfully improved. It was found that the optimization process provides reliable design of this kind of fans with reasonable computing time.
