This paper deals with the process to identify the transient exciting force generated from a rotary compressor. The compressor was assumed to be a rigid body. The equation of motion of a rigid compressor supported by three mounts was derived with 6 degree-of-freedom. The exciting forces at the center of mass of the compressor were estimated from the acceleration data measured at compressor shell. Compressor-pipe system was modeled numerically. The accelerations of compressor and pipe were predicted numerically by using the estimated exciting force. A new shape of pipe model was proposed to reduce the vibration. In the prediction by the method in this paper, the maximum acceleration of the pipe could be reduced by 53.7 % at the steady-state and by 12 % at the transient process. In the real experiments, the maximum acceleration of the pipe was reduced by 54.2 % at steady-state and 14.7 % at the transient process. It was verified that the numerical results showed good agreement with experimental results.
Recently, several efforts have been made to improve the thermal efficiency of a refrigerant compressor. In this study, we attempted to improve energy efficiency ratio (EER) performance by reducing the superheat of the linear compressor. To this end, heat generated inside the compressor must be effectively dissipated. Therefore, heat dissipation was improved by processing ribs in the gap-flow region generated owing to the vibration of the compressor body. The results showed that the convective heat transfer coefficient becomes significantly high when ribs are used, increasing the heat dissipation rate. This helps improve EER by reducing the superheat of the compressor.
The compressor is used for many fields not only in the industrial sector, but also as a general household product. The energy consumption required for the compressor operation is very large. The reciprocation compressor is widely used as an air compressor. Regarding the reciprocating air compressor, the discharge of the gas compacted by the method of compressing the gas by using the oscillation of the piston is generated by the piston reciprocation 1 church 1 number. When compressing after compressing the air by the oscillation of the piston, the marine reciprocating air compressor is the vibration generated in the compressor and surrounding structure due to the energy of the generated inertia. If the effect of these harmful elements can be reduced, it supports the service of the vessel. In addition, accidents generated by the noise of the vibration can be prevented. Therefore, in this research, firstly, the structural analysis of the piston part was performed, the safety factor in all results was drawn based upon this, and the reliability of the interpretation was examined in order to create the optimal design for the air compressor.
Compressor efficiency must be improved to reduce refrigerator power consumption. In this study, the heat dissipation rate through the compressor housing is increased via gap flow passages between the compressor body and housing. Four types of gap flow passages are considered for achieving the maximum heat-dissipation rate. In addition, thermal analysis is performed to examine the effect of increased heat dissipation rate on the energy efficiency ratio (EER). The results show that the heat dissipation rate, compressor superheat, and compressor EER increased by up to approximately 52%, 3 ℃, and approximately 1%, respectively.
M152, used for aircraft engine compressor cases, causes many problems in the cutting process due to its high hardness and high toughness. Characterized by a concave cylindrical center, aircraft engine compressor cases are thin but have multiple side holes to connect with internal parts. Thus, deformation occurs despite the jig sustaining the inside. The object of this study was to lessen the deformation arising from drilling by improving the drilling jig for aircraft engine compressor cases. To this end, an aircraft engine compressor case modeled with SolidWorks was analyzed with ANSYS under real conditions. Then, to secure reliability, the analyzed deformation was compared with the actual deformation. Based on the results, the effects of the improved drilling jig for aircraft engine compressor cases were verified.
The valve motions of a reciprocating compressor generate the pressure fluctuation at the plenum which is a main source of noise and vibration of a compressor unit. But a cycle of a compressor process consists of complicated phenomena interacting in a short period of time. A mathematical model is developed by simplifying and idealizing the complicated phenomena to simulate the compressor process. The governing equations about the pressure and working fluid flow are developed from the unsteady Bernoulli equation. The pressure fluctuations at the plenums are derived from the Helmholz's resonator model. The valves are modeled as one degree of freedom spring-mass-damper system. This model is verified by the experimental results.
A novel optical cell compressor for optical time division multiplexing system is presented. The compressor is capable of generating optically compressed very high bit-rate (possibly several tens of Gb/s) signals with minimum hardware. Contrast to the previously reported optical compressor, the compressor is mainly composed of passive optical devices and requires no synchronization among control signals in the process of compression, which results in simple implementation. We demonstrate a generation of optically compressed 6 Gb/s optical cells to confirm the fundamental operation of the compressor.
Hermetic rotary compressor is one of the most Important components for air conditioning system since it has a great effect on both the performance and the noise and vibration of He system. Noise and vibration of rotary compressor is occurred due to gas pulsation during compression process and unbalanced dynamic force. In order to reduce noise and vibration. it is necessary to identify sources of noise and vibration and effectively control then. Many approaches have been tried to identify noise sources of compressor. However, compressor noise source identification has proven to be difficult since the characteristics of compressor noise are complicated due to the interaction of the compressor parts and gas pulsation. In this work, Statistical Energy Analysis has been used to trace the energy flow in the compressor and identify transmission paths from the noise source to the sound field.
This paper describes a simulation model for estimation the performance of the swash plate type compressor for automotive air conditioning system. The model includes consideration of both the compression process and the dynamic behavior. Also, this study compares the results obtained from the performance simulation with experimental results. Further, the effects of the inclined angle of swash plate on the performance of swash plate type compressor are discussed.
To enhance the reliability of a newly designed reciprocating compressor applied in a domestic compressor, accelerated life tests were developed using new definitions of the sample size and the $B_1$ life index. In $1^{st}$ accelerated life testing, the compressor was locked due to the fracture of the suction reed valve. The failure modes and mechanisms of the suction reed valve in the accelerated tests were found to be similar to that of the failed product in the field. The root cause of the failure was the overlap between the suction reed valve and the valve plate in the suction port. The missing parameters in the design phase were modified by expanding the trespan size, introducing tumbling process, changing the material and thickness for the valve, introducing a ball peening and brushing process for the valve plate. In $2^{nd}$ accelerated life testing, the compressor was locked due to the interference between the crank shaft and thrust washer. The corrective plan was to heat treat the crank shaft. The $B_1$ life of the compressor improved from 1.5 to 12.9 years.
