Brown spot and sheath rot of rice are caused by fungal pathogens such as Curvularia lunata, Cochliobolus miyabeanus, and Sarocladium oryzae, and cause losses such as reduced rice yield and quality, which is an enormous problem with serious long-term effects. To search biological control agents of phytopathogenic fungi, five kinds of useful Bacillus-like isolates which are excellent in extracellular enzyme activity and produce siderophore were selected from paddy soil of Sunchang in Korea. The selected isolates were tested for excellent antifungal activity against three of the phytopathogenic fungi that frequently occur in rice, and JSRB 177 strain had the most excellent antifungal activity. Based on the experimental results, JSRB 177 is finally selected as a candidate for biological control and identified to Bacillus subtilis through 16S rRNA sequence analysis. In addition, physiological characteristics of JSRB 177 confirmed by analysis of carbohydrate fermentation patterns and enzyme production ability. Based on the above results, JSRB 177 is expected to be used as a biological control agent for the rice pathogenic fungi. In the future, further studies related to industrialization such as port test and establishment of mass production process are needed.

Purpose: The study examined the poisoned patients' characteristics nationwide in Korea by using data from the National Emergency Department Information System (NEDIS). Methods: Among the patients' information sent to NEDIS from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2015, the included subjects' main diagnosis in ED showed poisoning according to the 7th edition of the Korean Standard Disease Classification (KCD-7). We analyzed the patients' gender, age, initial vital signs, visit time, stay time of staying in ED, results of ED care, main diagnosis in ED, length of hospitalization, and results of hospitalization. Results: A total of 106,779 ED visits were included in the analysis. There were 55,878 males (52.3%), which was more than the number of females. The number of intentional poisoning was 49,805 (59.6%). 75,499 cases (70.8%) were discharged, and 25,858 cases (24.2%) were hospitalized. The numbers of poisoning patients per 1,000 ED visits were 14 in Chungnam and 11.9 in Jeonbuk. The most common cause of poisoning, according to the main diagnosis, was venomous animals. It was the same for hospitalized patients, and pesticide was next. Pesticide was the most common cause of mortality in ED (228 cases, 46.1%) and after hospitalization (584 cases, 54.9%). The incidence of poisoning by age group was frequent for patients in their 30s to 50s, and mortality in ED and post-hospitalization were frequent for patients in their 60s to 80s. Conclusion: This study investigated the characteristics of poisoning patients reported in the past 3 years. Pesticide poisoning had a high mortality rate for patients in ED and in-hospital. For mortality, there was a high proportion of elderly people over 60. Thus, policy and medical measures are needed to reduce this problem. Since it is difficult to identify the poison substance in detail due to nature of this study, it is necessary to build a database and monitoring system for monitoring the causative substance and enacting countermeasures.

Owing to the saturation of ground spaces in downtown areas, underground spaces are being developed increasingly. Underground spaces are utilized for transportation, water supply and sewerage, communication zones, electric power zones, and various cultural complexes. In Korea, for excavating underground spaces, blasting methods using gunpowder such as the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) are mainly used. However, the blasting method causes vibration and noise during tunnel excavation, generating many complaints from residents in the vicinity of the excavation site. To address this problem, various methods have been developed, and recently, vibration and noise have been reduced using deep excavation. This study predicts blast vibration changes according to the depth, under the same blasting and tunnel conditions, using numerical analysis based on the blast vibration measurement data of the GTX-A route, the tunnel cross-section drawings, and ground investigation reports. Furthermore, the necessary separation distance from densely populated areas such as residential areas is suggested by analyzing the trend of decreasing blast vibration according to the distance from ground surface directly above the blasting location.
It has been 16 years since the government announced its first Ocean Education Policy in 2005. Although the public consensus on the importance of ocean education has been formed, it is impossible to objectively analyze the impact of the policy on the society or the economy. The aim of this paper was to identify differences in perceptions and behaviors about the ocean between groups participating in ocean education and non-participating groups and to analyze the effectiveness of ocean education by developing measurement indicators for the value that individuals gave to ocean education services. To conduct this study, first, the value of ocean education was defined and value items that could be provided to individuals were classified. Second, to develop indicators that could measure classified value items, a Delphi survey was conducted to collect opinions of various experts. Third, by measuring the content validity ratio (CVR) for each item, final indicators and questionnaire were derived. As a result of Delphi analysis, 18 items with a CVR value of 0.6 or higher were finally adopted out of 32 indicator items. In the cognitive value category, indicators that could identify an individual's level of knowledge of the ocean, change in perception, and problem-solving ability were selected. In the behavioral value category, indicators were expanded to judge changes in attitudes and relationships toward the ocean and responsible behavior in more detail. This study is meaningful in that it provides the basis for directly judging the value of ocean education service provided by the government to the people. Results of such analysis are expected to contribute to securing a stable budget and the justification for expanding human resources in the government's continuous promotion of ocean education policies.
Today, venture companies are increasingly important in that they play a key role in national economic growth. However, ICT venture companies are having great difficulties in securing a sustainable competitive advantage due to rapid environmental changes, and as one of the ways to solve this problem, they rely on the government's support policy. Accordingly, this study analyzed the effect of government support on management performance of ICT venture companies. For empirical analysis, the data from the 2016 ICT venture panel survey was collected, and 687 and 538 companies were selected to analyze the effect of funding and R&D support, respectively. Then, through propensity score matching, companies that received government support and companies with similar characteristics (control group) were compared and analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was found that funding support had a significant effect on the growth potential of ICT venture companies, and R&D support had a significant effect on the stability of ICT venture companies. This means that there is a difference in management performance of ICT venture companies depending on the type of government support. Through this study, it was possible to confirm the effect of government's policies, and various support policies for specific purposes should be pursued to foster ICT venture companies. In addition, for the continued growth of ICT venture companies in the future, it will be necessary to consider package (technology, management, commercialization, etc.) support rather than individual funding support or R&D support.
Cancer is a global health problem. There are diverse types of cancers, but there are several common pathways which lead to the development of cancer. Changes in gene expression might be the most common similarity found in almost all cancers. An understanding of the underlying changes in gene expression during cancer progression could lay a valuable foundation for the development of cancer therapeutics and even cancer vaccines. In this study, a well-known carcinogen, N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG), was employed to induce changes in gene expression in normal stomach cells. MNNG is known to cause cancer by inducing damage to DNA in MNNG-treated mammalian cells and animals fed with this carcinogen. An analysis was performed by comparing the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) caused by MNNG treatment with DEGs in stomach cancer cell lines. To this end, methods of analysis for functional categorization and protein-protein interaction networks, such as gene ontology (GO), the database for annotation, visualization, and integrated discovery (DAVID), Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomics (KEGG) and search tool for the retrieval of interacting genes/proteins (STRING), were used. As a result of these analyses, MNNG-regulated specific genes and interaction networks of their protein products that contributed to stomach cancer were identified.

In the Chinese construction industry, the utilization of Building Information Modeling (BIM) aims to increase the total output of the construction industry by solving the problem of inefficient interoperability in the construction industry. In 2011, the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development despite the technical advantages of BIM and the government policy, the BIM adoption rate in China is lower than 45%. Meanwhile, as the South Korean construction industry is a step ahead of its Chinese counterpart in introducing and utilizing BIM, it is expected that BIM is more actively utilized and accepted in South Korea than in China. According to a comparative study based on the hype-cycle theory, South Korea is at a more advanced stage of introducing BIM, than in China. This study aimed to suggest how to increase BIM utilization rates in China. To this end, this study comparatively analyzed factors affecting BIM acceptance between China and South Korea. For the comparative analysis of the BIM acceptance factors between China and South Korea, literature reviews on the technology acceptance model (TAM) and BIM acceptance model were carried out, and based on that, the BIM acceptance factors were classified. Other BIM acceptance factors were also added and considered, as they reflected Chinese national characteristics and construction industry. As for the derived BIM acceptance factors, construction project participants, especially actual BIM users in China and South Korea, were targeted for the survey. A t-test using SPSS 22.00 was carried out to identify significant differences in data. Finally, based on the t-test results, this study suggested ways of improving the BIM utilization rate in China. Based on the findings, this study is expected to contribute to activating BIM adoption in the Chinese construction industry and also to set a theoretical foundation for future studies on BIM utilization in the industry.
In South Korea, with the advancement of the 'Port' project, the regeneration industry adapted to the modern economic development has been promoted, leading to construction around the port was also redefined. Therefore, through regeneration, the problem of image construction of buildings around the port has been re-examined, in which color is an important content of image construction. In this study, the exterior walls of abandoned factory buildings in the port area of Bongnaedong, Pusan were selected as the color research object and evaluated according to the characteristics of the regenerated factory buildings combined with the building color function. Technically, KSCP color analysis system is used for color analysis. In this way, the color plan for the exterior walls of the factory buildings is proposed to visually enhance the image of abandoned factory buildings and attract more attention, thus driving the regional economic development. The results of this study show that in order to adapt to the regional, industrial and commercial characteristics of the regenerated port space, the color hue, lightness, chroma and use area of the building can be changed to enhance the aesthetic value and enhance the inductivity and security.
Wayfinding is a 'Process solving problem to find destination', and it is important to select spatial data for optimal way. Recently, due to the complexity of space and the expansion of the medium of the wayfinding service, it is necessary to the approach on the information design for them. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a meta guideline on the information design for the design of orientation sign, which is an important cognitive clue in the wayfinding. It was conducted in 3 stages, First, a design process was proposed and design elements were derived for each step by literature research related to information and sign design, and analysis of manual for signage design. Second, a meta guideline for information organization and visualization in the three-stage design process was proposed by FGI and analysis. Third, the meta guideline was applied to the sign design on an area for user evaluation to inspect the applicability of the meta guideline. Through the user questionnaire, the possibility of applying the guideline for visualization of directions and spaces, information hierarchy according to spatial characteristics and information priority was identified. It is meaningful in that necessary element for signage design are systematized centering on the process and that it presents a macroscopic methodology according to spatial characteristics.
Analysis of research trends in specific subject areas is performed by examining related topics and subject changes by using topic modeling techniques through keyword extraction for most of the literature information (paper, patents, etc.). Unlike existing research methods, this paper extracts topics related to the research topic using the LDA topic modeling technique for the project information of national R&D projects provided by the National Science and Technology Knowledge Information Service (NTIS) in the field of artificial intelligence. By analyzing these topics, this study aims to analyze research topics and investment directions for national R&D projects. NTIS provides a vast amount of national R&D information, from information on tasks carried out through national R&D projects to research results (thesis, patents, etc.) generated through research. In this paper, the search results were confirmed by performing artificial intelligence keywords and related classification searches in NTIS integrated search, and basic data was constructed by downloading the latest three-year project information. Using the LDA topic modeling library provided by Python, related topics and keywords were extracted and analyzed for basic data (research goals, research content, expected effects, keywords, etc.) to derive insights on the direction of research investment.
