  • Geometric probing addresses the problem of determining geometric aspects of a structure from the mathematics and results of a physical measuring device such as a probe. This paper presents a new algorithm to recognize the shape of an unknown object by using a robot hand with a force and torque sensor. The new algorithm is called S.E.P.(Shape Exploration Procedure) which finds the global shape of an unknown object. The proposed method is composed of three major parts, finding contact informations such as contact point, calculation of shape information such as curvature, and expression of global shape from these informations. Comparing with the conventional approaches, the advantages of the proposed method are explained and verified by conducting experiments with a 3-dof SCARA robot.

  • During the hierarchical formation of large scale structure in the universe, the progressive collapse and merging of dark matter should inevitably drive shocks into the gas, with nonthermal particle acceleration as a natural consequence. Two topics in this regard are discussed, emphasizing what important things nonthermal phenomena may tell us about the structure formation (SF) process itself. 1. Inverse Compton gamma-rays from large scale SF shocks and non-gravitational effects, and the implications for probing the warm-hot intergalactic medium. We utilize a semi-analytic approach based on Monte Carlo merger trees that treats both merger and accretion shocks self-consistently. 2. Production of $^6Li$ by cosmic rays from SF shocks in the early Galaxy, and the implications for probing Galaxy formation and uncertain physics on sub-Galactic scales. Our new observations of metal-poor halo stars with the Subaru High Dispersion Spectrograph are highlighted.

  • It is well known that nonlinear propagation characteristics of the wave in the tissue may give very useful information for the medical diagnoisis. In this paper, a new method to detect nonlinear propagation characteristics of the internal vibration in the tissue for the low frequency mechanical vibration by using bispectral analysis is proposed. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms. Results show the superiority of the proposed method to the conventional method using power spectrum and also its usefulness for the tissue characterization.

  • Feeding behaviors of the sweet potato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci, and changing of their feeding behaviors were recorded and analyzed with an Electrical Penetration Graph (EPG) analysis against cyantraniliprole. The characteristic patterns of feeding behaviors investigated were as follows; NP (non probing), pathway phase waveform, waveform of feeding xylem. In results, B. tabaci did not almost feeding the phloem. And It was not appeared potential drop during recording time. It was predominantly indicated pathway activity waveform and waveform of xylem feeding. After treatment of cyantraniliprole with recommended concentrations to tomato plants, EPG waveforms were recorded during 3 hours. Cyantraniliprole treatment showed longer time to first feeding xylem than untreated (P=0.043). It was showed shorter duration of first feeding xylem than untreated (P=0.017). And it was showed longer NP (non-probing) time than untreated. Consequently, It was supposed that cyantraniliprole was effect of anti-feeding or avoidance to B. tabaci.
