When carbon-filled rubber specimens are subjected to cyclic loading, they do not return to their initial state after loading and subsequent unloading, but exhibit a residual strain or permanent deformation. We propose a specific form of the pseudo-elastic energy function to represent cyclic loading for incompressible, isotropic materials with stress softening and residual strain. The essence of the pseudo-elasticity theory is that material behaviour in the primary loading path is described by a common elastic strain energy function, and in unloading, reloading or secondary unloading paths by a different strain energy function. The switch between strain energy functions is controlled by the incorporation of a damage variable into the strain energy function. An extra term is added to describe the permanent deformation. The finite element implementation of the proposed model is presented in this paper. All parameters in the proposed model and elastic law can be easily estimated based on experimental data. The numerical analyses show that the results are in good agreement with experimental data.
The behaviour of elasto-plastic planar arches subjected to dynamic loads in presented. The governing equations are formulated through the dynamic equations and compatibility conditions. The latter is established by applying the generalized conjugate segment analogy. Bending moments at the nodes and axial forces in the members are considered as primary variables in the elastic regime. They are supplemented by the rotations at the nodes and dislocations in the elements when plastic hinges occur. Newmark-${\beta}$ method is adopted in the time marching process. The interaction diagram of each element is treated as the yield surface for the element and the associated flow rule is enforced as plastic flow occurs. The method provides good prediction of dynamic response of elasto-plastic arches while requiring small core storage and short computer time.

The primary function of ZnO lightning arrester is to protect transmission and distribution equipment from overvoltages and to absorb electrical energy resulting from lightning or switching surges and form temporary overvoltage. However, ZnO lightning arrester are known to exhibit an increases in resistive current with time, the rate of increase being exacerbated with increasing applied voltage and ambient temperature. So, it is important to the leakage current measurement of ZnO lightning arrester. In addition, since the resistive leakage current caused by deterioration of ZnO lightning arrester mainly caused an increase of the third harmonic component, thereby it is possible the arrester degradation diagnosis by measuring the third harmonic component in the total leakage current. The leakage current and third harmonic component are measured and used to investigate the degradation diagnosis of ZnO element of arrester. Also the SEM photography is used to investigate the change of crystal structure of ZnO element with degradation.

Thick film mechanical sensors can be categorized into four main areas piezoresistive, piezoelectric, capacitive and mechanic tube. In this areas, the thick film strain gage is the earliest example of a primary sensing element based on the substrates. The latest thick film sensor is used various pastes that have been specifically developed for pressure sensor application. Some elastic materials exhibit a change in bulk resistivity when they are subjected to displacement by an applied pressure. This property is referred to as piezoresistivity and is a major factor influencing the sensitivity of a piezoresistive strain gage. The effect of thick film resistors was first noticed in the early 1970, as described by Holmes in his paper in 1973.
The cylindrical shells are used as primary components of complex structures such as airplane fuselages and nuclear pressure vessels. Recently the free vibration analysis of these structures are investigated by many researchers. The engineering informations on experimental validation of the free vibration behavior on the simply supported cylindrical shells are very few. The experimental methods for realizing the physical boundary condition of simply supported edges are examined. Natural frequencies and mode shapes of the isotropic and plain weave composite simply supported shells are obtained by modal tests. A theoretical and finite element analysis are also performed in order to validate the experimental results. The experimental results indicate that the simply supported boundary conditions with bolts along the circumferential direction of shell in both ends are well achieved. Those are shown to agree with the analytical results and with the finite element analysis results. These methods can be used to realize other experimental simple support boundary conditions.

In this paper, we introduce noise prediction program of HVAC system to assist low-noisy design of ship's cabin. The developed program calculates sound power levels at HVAC components considering primary and secondary noise generated by fan and duct element, duct element noise attenuation, and duct break-in noise based on the authentic empirical method suggested by NEBB and acoustic power balancing method. Sound pressure level at cabin with or without ceiling system is evaluated by the diffuse-field theory considering diffuser and duct break-out sound powers. Moreover, the program provides intuitive pre- and post-processors using modem GUI functions to help efficient modeling and evaluation of cabin and HVAC component noise. To validate the accuracy and convenience of the program, noise prediction for a HVAC system is demonstrated.
A capacitor discharge impulse magnetizer is used to produce a high current pulse of short duration in a magnetizing fixture for magnets of the various shapes. The problem of designing custom fixtures for magnetization has often been considered more of conventional experience than a scientific theory. Therefore, the design of magnetizingfixture has until recently been a "cut and try" process. It was common to literally blow up one or more fixtures beforeachieving the desired results. Finite element CAD package allow the design of such a fixture. Since magnetizing fixtures come in a variety of sizes and shapes, there is usually no simple analysis method that can be used to estimate the field characteristics of the fixtures. Instead, one typically uses finite element analysis. FEA program MAXWELL is the primary tool used here. The purpose of this study was a examine both theoretically and experimentally the field characteristics inside the fixture. Independent of sizes and shapes of magnetizing fixtures, the desired magnetic field can be obtained with resonable predictability. The experimental results have been achieved using a 1000[V], 22.4[KJ] capacitor discharge magnetizer and iron-core fixtures.

This paper is concerned about a high speed electromagnet of Pressure control solenoid valve. Solenoid valve is controlled by means of Pulse width modulation. The magnetostatic field problem on a solenoid is numerically solved by the 2-D axisymmetric finite element method. And permeance method is adopted for analysing the static and dynamic property of solenoid part theoretically. In addition, in this study, experiments on solenoid part were performed in order to measure the magnetic force and plunger displacement. The numerical results coincided with the experimental results. As a result, the magnetic force has the linear relation with displacement of plunger and the primary factors on the performance of PWM type high speed electromagnet are coil resistance, plunger mass, and the length of air gap between plunger and core.
The paper deals with the finite element modelling of the free vibration and structural behavior of a particular four-floor reinforced concrete structure subjected to static equivalent seismic loads and supported by a shallow foundation system called SNSF (Spider Net System Footing). The two FE models are a simple 2D Matlab model and a detailed 3D model based on solid elastic elements using Altairworks (Hypermesh and Optistruct). Both models can simulate the soil structure interaction. We concentrate on the behavior of a representative cell involving two columns on five levels. The influence of the boundary conditions on the external vertical planes of the domain are duly studied. The Matlab model appears relevant for a primary estimation of frequencies and stiffness of the whole structure under vertical and lateral loads.
This paper presents an advanced analytical approach for the design and analysis of fixed offshore structures with soil structure interaction considered. The proposed methodology involves conducting case studies to illustrate and assess the structural response of a structure considering seven different earthquakes, with the primary goal of ensuring there is no global collapse in the structures. The case studies focus on developing a model for structural analysis and its topside, incorporating nonlinear axial and lateral springs to capture soil-pile interaction. Additionally, mass and damping ratios are considered through the use of dashpots in the analyses. Finite Element Software was employed for structural analyses with detailed modeling, with soil spring nodes applied in the entire structure across various depths. After the finite element analysis was carried out, a sensitivity analysis was conducted to quantify and report the effects of different parameters.
