A Study on Fluid Flow in the Intake Manifold for an Engine (엔진 흡기관내의 유체유동에 관한 연구)

  • In order to predict performance of the intake manifold, which is dependent on the length and diameter of a resonance pipe, the Fluid Dynamic Model for 4-cylinder diesel engine is developed using two step Lax-Wendroff method to solve the governing equations of air flow in the intake system. Boundary conditions at the intake valve, branch at the manifolds, and pipe end are also modeled. The results of the models are compared with the experimental results of a motored engine. The model is capable of predicting the real phenomena satisfactorily with reasonable computing time.

  • 청정 에너지원으로 높은 잠재력을 가지고 있는 가스하이드레이트는 상업적 기술개발이 미확보된 상태이다. 현재 전 세계적으로 가스하이드레이트 개발 및 생산에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있으며 이에 대한 기초자료로서 가스하이드레이트가 함유된 퇴적층의 물성자료가 필요하다. 특히, 현장 시료에 대한 물성 측정은 향후 가스하이드레이트 개발 및 생산 계획을 수립하는데 있어서 매우 중요하다. 탄성파 측정 결과는 다른 물성 들에 비하여 하이드레이트 함유 시료의 성형과정에 큰 영향을 받는다. 또한 그 외의 실험 경계조건과 취득 자료의 처리 과정에도 매우 민감하게 반응한다. 따라서 측정을 하는 과정은 물론 측정 후 자료의 활용 과정에서 다양히 고려해야 할 점들이 있다. 본 연구에서는 인공 모래를 이용하여 다양한 조건에서 탄성파 속도를 측정한 후 그 결과를 토대로 하여 기존의 연구 결과와 비교하여 음파 측정연구 시 고려해야 할 기술적 사항 들을 정리해 보았다. 실험에 사용된 장비는 고압의 퇴적층을 모사할 수 있는 압력셀과 메탄과 염수 주입에 사용되는 유체 주입장비, 하이드레이트 형성을 위한 온도조절장비, 자료 획득 장비로 구성되어 있다. p파 속도는 음파 송수신장비를 사용하였다.

An Investigation of Acoustic Excitation on Sooting Diffusion Flame (Soot 배출 확산 화염에 대한 음향 가진 효과 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 soot을 배출하는 층류 확산 화염에 대한 음향 가진(acoustic excitation) 효과에 대해 연구하였다. 최근의 연구결과는 soot 배출 화염에 음향 가진을 작용시키면 radiation은 증가하고 soot 배출은 감소한다는 사실을 밝혀주었다. 음향 속도(acoustic velocity)는 음향 압력(acoustic pressure)과 900 상(phase) 차이가 있기 때문에 acoustic driver를 장착한 유리 튜브 내부의 축방향으로 soot을 배출하는 아세틸렌 확산 화염을 이동시킴으로서 soot 배출 감소에 대한 음향 속도와 음향 압력의 상대적인 중요도를 밝혀낼 수 있다. Soot을 배출하는 아세틸렌 화염에 soot 배출이 멈출 때까지 음향 가진을 작용시키고 유리 튜브 안의 최대 압력 위치에서 음향 압력을 측정하며, 화염 위치의 음향 속도와 음향압력은 운동량 방정식과 파동 방정식을 통해 계산된다. 실험 결과 음향 속도가 최대이고 음향 압력이 최소인 위치에서 보다 음향 속도가 최소이고 음향 압력이 최대인 위치에서 훨씬 더 큰 acoustic power가 필요함을 보여주었다. Soot 배출을 멈추는데 필요한 음향 속도의 크기는 유리 튜브의 축방향에 대해 거의 일정한 반면 음향 압력의 크기는 상당한 변화가 있었다. 이러한 결과는 Soot 배출의 감소가 주로 음향 속도에 의한 것임을 강하게 시사한다고 할 수 있다. 또한 연료의 유량이 증가함에 따라 soot 배출을 억제하는데 필요한 acoustic power도 증가한다는 사실을 확인 할 수 있었다.

Numerical Simulation of Wave Deformation due to a Submerged Structure with a Second-order VOF Method (2차 정확도 VOF기법을 활용한 수중구조물에 의한 파랑변화 예측)

  • A three-dimensional numerical model is employed to investigate wave deformation due to a submerged structure. The three-dimensional numerical model solves the spatially averaged Navier-Stokes equations for two-phase flows. The LES(large-eddy-simulation) approach is adopted to model the turbulence effect by using the Smagorinsky SGS(sub-grid scale) closure model. The two-step projection method is employed in the numerical solutions, aided by the Bi-CGSTAB technique to solve the pressure Poisson equation for the filtered pressure field. The second-order accurate VOF(volume-of-fluid) method is used to track the distorted and broken free surface. A simple linear wave is generated on a constant depth and compared with analytical solutions. The model is then applied to study wave deformation due to a submerged structure and the predicted results are compared with available laboratory measurements.

  • Numerical study on the passive control of the oblique shock wave/turbulent boundary-layer interaction control utilizing slotted plates over a cavity has been carried out. Numerical results have been compared with the experimental observations, such as pitot/wall surface pressures and Schlieren flow visualizations, obtained for the same boundary conditions. It was found that the present numerical results shows a good agreement with experimental data. Further, the effect of different slot configurations including various number, location and angle of slots on the characteristics of the interactions are also tested, focusing on the variation of the piot pressure and the boundary-layer characteristics downstream of the interaction and the recirculating mass flux through cavity.

  • Acoustic emission(AE) ran be very effectively applied to locate the damaged area in large structures by detecting the elastic waves generated during the damage process within solids. Source location in the composite structures has been, however, extremely difficult due to the acoustic anisotropy with the velocity dependence on fiber orientations. In this study, it has been shown that a newly proposed method for 2-D source location of anisotropic structures is practically applicable to the real structure. The method employes wave velocities obtained with different velocities from $0^{\circ}\;to\;90^{\circ}$ for a filament wound composite pressure vessel under the air-filled and the water-filled conditions.

  • Most of the aerospace propulsion is based on the Brayton cycle, in which the combustion is held through the constant pressure process, but further improvement of performance by increasing compression ratio is challenged by mechanical limits. Detonation propulsions, regarded promising for high-speed propulsion for a lase decade, is more rigorously studied in these days as a game-changer for the improvement of thermodynamic efficiency of propulsion and power generation systems. Since, the additional compression by the strong shock of the detonation wave is considered increasing thermodynamics efficiency that is hardly achievable by the conventional compression systems. Present paper will give an introduction the latest technical trends on the Pulse Detonation Engines(PDEs) and the activities on the Pressure Gain Combustion (PGC) based on Constant Volume Combustion (CVC).

Fluidic Thrust Vector Control Using Shock Wave Concept (충격파 개념에 기반한 유체 추력벡터제어에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, fluidic thrust vector control has become a core technique to control multifarious air vehicles, such as supersonic aircraft and modern rockets. Fluidic thrust vector control using the shock vector concept has many advantages for achieving great vectoring performance, such as fast vectoring response, simple structure, and low weight. In this paper, computational fluid dynamics methods are used to study a three-dimensional rectangular supersonic nozzle with a slot injector. To evaluate the reliability and stability of computational methodology, the numerical results were validated with experimental data. The pressure distributions along the upper and lower nozzle walls in the symmetry plane showed an excellent match with the test results. Several numerical simulations were performed based on the shear stress transport(SST) $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model. The effect of the momentum flux ratio was investigated thoroughly, and the performance variations have been clearly illustrated.

Evaluation of Soil Improvement by Carbonate Precipitation with Urease (요소분해효소에 의한 탄산칼슘 침전을 통한 지반 개량 평가)

  • This study presents the experimental results of $CaCO_3$ formation in sand by the Enzyme Induced Carbonate Precipitation (EICP) method. Concentration of $CaCO_3$ with elapsed reaction time is calibrated by standardized procedure by measuring $CO_2$ pressure, and it increases with time towards asymptotic value. Jumunjin sand saturated with EICP solution shows that both shear wave velocity and electrical conductivity sharply increase as the reaction starts to approach to the constant values after 50 hours of reaction time. Urease concentration of 0.5 g/L exhibits 224% higher final shear wave velocity than that of 0.1 g/L. The nucleation models hint that carbonate tends to precipitate not only at grain contacts but also at grain surfaces. Regardless of urease concentration, electrical conductivity and shear wave velocity follow the unique path. The scanning electron microscopic images and X-ray computed tomographic images validate the spatial configuration of produced $CaCO_3$ in soils.

  • Green water impact may sometimes cause some structure damages on ship's bow deck. Prediction of proper design pressure against the green water impact is an essential task to prevent the possible damages on bow deck. This paper presents a computational method of the bow deck's design pressure against the green water impact. Large heave and pitch motions of ship are calculated by the time domain nonlinear strip method. Green water flow and pressure on bow deck are simulated by the predictor-corrector second kind upstream finite difference method. This green water simulation method is based on the shallow water wave equations expanded for moving bottom conditions. For various kind of ships such as container ship, VLCC, oil tanker and bulk carrier, the green water design pressures on bow deck are computed and discussed. Also, the obtained results of design pressure on bow deck are compared with those of the classification society rules and discussed.
