Fundamental Safety Acquisition using Image Processing Techniques for Accident-free Power Press Works (화상처리 기법을 응응한 동력 프레스 작업의 근원적 안전확보)

  • In spite of a tendency automatizing manaufacturing processes, since power presses are highly repetitive at high speeds, they have still been using to a large extent in many industries. More often than not, press workers have to make decisions whether work materials are located well or not, they should rearrange them or not, and their bodies would be safe or not. If the decision would be wrong, of course, they cause severe damages to human workers so that many workers haven't been willing to work with them. However, with the help of computer technologies, it would be possible to aid the press workers' decisions, and to allow or prohibit them from inserting their hands between slide rams and dies. Thus, this research was aimed to evaluate and analyze possibilities of applying Image Processing Techniques for prevention of press accidents. Through a series of procedures including Capturing work sites and material, Image Enhancement, Contouring, and Edge Finding, work characteristics were obtained and analyzed. The results showed that there were somewhat differences in image characteristics between accident-induced work scenes and accident-free ones. Consequently, if the image analyses are well carried out in real time, they would give a successful help to human press workers.

Safety Evaluation of Press Operation using Eye Movement (눈움직임을 이용한 프레스작업의 안전성 평가에 대한 연구)

  • This paper presents an experiment which examines eye movement characteristics of novice and experienced workers in the press operation. Significant difference between the novice and the experienced workers was observed in fixation time, eye movement patterns, and spatial distribution of fixations when the top die hits the bottom die. There were no significant difference between the novice and the experienced workers in eye movement time. The results could be used to set up a guide to train the novice workers and to determine how long the novice should be trained.

  • Recently, WRMSD(Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders) that can be frequently found among simple and repetitious works has been a big occupational safety issue, and has begun to being studied actively by many Korean researchers. However, those researches have been largely relied on foreign ones, due to the lack of basic data in Korea. In this study, we have tried to search the actual conditions and factors on WRMSD of press workers in a local company. In addition, we examined how the contents of works and postures of the workers affect the disease. It is expected that the data collected in this study will be able to used for planning the preventive measures on WRMSD effectively and for implementing its corresponding programs.

Effects of Hand Moxibustion and Hand Press Pellet on Low Back Pain, Range of Joint Movement, and Depression (요통을 가진 남성 제조업 근로자에 대한 수지 뜸 요법과 압봉자극법 적용 효과)

  • Purpose: This study tries to examine the effects of hand moxibustion and press pellet by applying them to male manufacturing workers with low back pain, and use them to develop nursing interventions for workers. Methods: The data were collected from August to October, 2018, and the subjects were 60 men, processed by using SPSS/WIN 21.0 to perform homogeneity test with $x^2$-, t-, and hypothesis tests with repeated measures, ANOVA and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test. Results: Hypothesis 1 that "the experimental group provided with hand moxibustion and hand press pellet would give lower scores for low back pain than the control group" was supported (F=78.71, p<.001). Hypothesis 2 that "the experimental group provided with hand moxibustion and hand press pellet would have a wider range of motion than the control group" was also supported (F=17.44, p<.001). Hypothesis 3 that "the experimental group provided with hand moxibustion and hand press pellet would give lower scores for depression than the control group," again, was supported (F=16.95, p<.001). Conclusion: Hand moxibustion and hand press pellet are effective in relieving low back pain for male workers, in increasing the range of motion, and in decreasing depression.

Gun-Ho Song's Journalistic Activity and Thought of the Press (송건호의 언론활동과 언론사상)

  • Gun-Ho Song had been selected as 'the most respected person' in a survey targeting journalists. While being a journalist, Gun-Ho Song had directly experienced that the press submitted to government suppression and became commercialized receiving government benefits. In 1975, when Dong-A Ilbo(Daily News) submitted to the government suppression and conducted a mass of discharge of journalists, he felt responsibility and left the newspaper company. After that, he criticized more sharply the media subordinated to the power and capital. The core of Gun Ho Song's thought of the press is that the media should be independent from the power and capital contributing to nationalism and democracy. Also, he insisted that journalists should equip with historical consciousness and social scientific knowledge beyond roles like skilled workers. His idea of the press is still valid in the current media situation showing that journalists become skilled workers and independence of the press is risky. Looking into his activity and idea of the press can help seek for the right attitude of journalists and right roles of the media in the change of media environment.

  • There is a risk of serious injury to workers who work at height in pier construction process. By using auto climbing formwork system that does not need to dismantle and reinstall formworks, it is possible to improve work efficiency and safety of workers. However, auto climbing formwork system still requires workers to work on a pier for rebar connection works and so on. In order to eliminate works by workers on the pier, robot manipulators with special end effectors are proposed. Through analysis of works on the pier, three specialized end effectors which are a gripper, a rebar coupler press, and a concrete vibrator, are suggested. Also, new pier construction scenario by the suggested system is confirmed using 3d modeling. It is expected that the proposed system and method enables pier construction without workers on piers. It will increase safety and efficiency of pier construction.

  • This study is intended to estimate influences upon life cycle of ESPE(Electro Sensitive Protective Equipment) which is kinds of commonly used in press in domestic industry. First the field survey is executed to workers and safety managers at work places. In the survey, the main primary factors influenced the lift cycle of ESPE were vibration due to overload work in workplace. Second, int results showed that 37$m/s^2$ acceleration in press work would lead to the life of 132 for 8 hours work per day. Therefore, the vibration of press inflicted significant effect on the lift of ESPE.

  • Change in labor time is affecting occupational safety and health. Recently reduction in labor time brought innovational operation method, investment in plant and equipment, and flexible labor time in some companies, thereby affecting working conditions for labourers. However, working conditions for some vulnerable social groups have deteriorated. As a result, they are becoming more exposed to risk factors such as injury and emotional stress. In this study we use 2014 KWCS data in order to find the social and demographic characteristics in Korean working conditions. To this end, we use exploratory data analysis approach to find the relationship between some of the important variables in the KWCS data. We also use Press-State-Response model to find which group of people are vulnerable to Press and State. We find that women, people over age 50 and business owners are more vulnerable to Press and State than men, people below age 50 and wage workers.

  • The electric vehicle market is developing rapidly around the world. Also, parts of electric vehicles require precision.In order to produce high-precision motor cores,Press equipment must also have good precision. Drive motor cores are an important technology for electric vehicles. It uses a large high-speed press to mass-produce drive motor cores. Because it's a large high-speed press, there are many reasons why the precision is not good. One of the causes is vibration and noise. Recently, as environmental demands have become stricter, regulations on noise and vibration have been strengthened. It is important for press machines to reduce vibration first for sound insulation and dust proofing. This is because the "breakthrough" phenomenon occurs in the press. Dynamic precision is the precision under the load of the press, Design considering strain and stiffness shall be made. Vibration and noise may occur due to SPM of high-speed press,And vibration and noise can cause structural deformation of the press. Structural deformation of the press can affect the precision of the product.Noise and vibration also cause problems for workers and work environments. Problems with vibration and noise occur during press processing, and vibration and noise lead to damage to the mold or defects in the product. Reliability in high-quality technology must be secured with low noise and low vibration during press processing. Modular shape and deformation energy effects were analyzed through finite element analysis. In this study, a study on vibration and noise countermeasures was conducted through finite element analysis of a large high-speed press.
