  • 본 논문은 성균관대학교에서 개설되고 있는 "과학기술 문서 작성 및 발표" 강좌의 특징과 핵심 교육목표에 중점을 두고 학생들에게 부과되는 과제를 중심으로 공학적 의사소통, 공학적인 문제들을 인식하며 이를 공식화하여 해결하는 일종의 사고능력과 표현능력을 동시에 훈련하는 기초과정의 측면에 기반 하였다. 과학기술 문서 작성 및 발표수업은 기본적으로 Blended Learning 학습유형중 문제 중심학습(PBL)에 기반을 두어 학생들 스스로의 문제해결력을 키워갈 것을 강조하며 자기 주도적으로 학습할 수 있는 능력을 키워주는데 지향점을 두었다. 팀별활동을 통해 학습자들이 좀 더 구체적인 문제를 이끌어내도록 참여를 장려하였고, 학생들 스스로 주제를 설정하는 능동적인 과정 속에서 자신의 활동을 객관화시켜 검토해 보는데 수업의 목표를 두었다.

Integrating Soft Skills into Online EFL Classrooms Using Problem-Based Learning with Challenge Questions

  • This study proposed a soft skill integration activity for online EFL classrooms and investigated student responses. Toward this end, this study recruited 54 college students taking an English Presentation and Discussion class in South Korea. Participants were assigned into high and low-proficiency groups based on the Test of English for International Communication. This study employed questionnaire, class video recordings, and interview to obtain responses. Moreover, problem-based learning with challenge questions was applied to develop soft skills in online synchronous classes. Responses were examined in terms of whether a difference existed according to English proficiency. Major findings of this study were as follows. Regardless of proficiency levels, participants reported improvements in their IT and problem-solving skills and exhibited positive attitudes toward live online presentations via Zoom. However, this study observed significant differences in communication and teamwork skills, perceived learning, and confidence. Interviews with students with low English proficiency levels revealed that they were negatively affected by the lack of non-verbal cues, mechanical skills, and socialization time provided by online classes. Based on these results, pedagogical implications and directions for future studies are discussed.

  • 시각형과 언어형이라는 인지양식이 멀티미디어 학습에 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위해 언어정보와 그림정보의 제시순서를 달리해서 실험을 실시하였다. 시각형에서는 그림정보를 먼저 제시한 경우에 더 잘 학습하였으나, 언어형은 언어정보를 먼저 제시한 경우에 수행이 좋았다. 이 결과는 인지 양식에 따라 정보의 효과적인 제시 순서가 달라질 수 있다는 것을 보여주는 것으로, 학습자의 인지양식에 따라 학습교재의 인지 부하가 달라질 수 있다는 것을 시사하였다.

Exploring Simultaneous Presentation in Online Restaurant Reviews: An Analysis of Textual and Visual Content

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of different types of simultaneous presentation (i.e., reviewer information, textual and visual content, and similarity between textual-visual contents) on review usefulness and review enjoyment in online restaurant reviews (ORRs), as they are interrelated yet have rarely been examined together in previous research. By using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling and state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) methodologies, we found that review readability in textual content and salient objects in images in visual content have a significant impact on both review usefulness and review enjoyment. Moreover, similarity between textual-visual contents was found to be a major factor in determining review usefulness but not review enjoyment. As for reviewer information, reputation, expertise, and location of residence, these were found to be significantly related to review enjoyment. This study contributes to the body of knowledge on ORRs and provides valuable implications for general users and managers in the hospitality and tourism industries.

  • The robot soccer simulation game is a dynamic multi-agent environment. In this paper we suggest a new reinforcement learning approach to each agent´s dynamic positioning in such dynamic environment. Reinforcement learning is the machine learning in which an agent learns from indirect, delayed reward an optimal policy to choose sequences of actions that produce the greatest cumulative reward. Therefore the reinforcement learning is different from supervised learning in the sense that there is no presentation of input-output pairs as training examples. 학문목적 한국어 학습자의 어휘 습득 연구 -문맥 추론과 배경지식 활성화를 통한 수업 도입을 중심으로- (Vocabulary Acquisition of Korean Learners for Academic Purposes -Focusing on the Effects of Instruction Introductory Methods of Context Inference and Activation of Background Knowledge)

  • The purpose of this study is to deal with vocabulary in KFL. As a result of this study, learners learned vocabulary on average 43 points through contextual inference and introduction of the class to activate background knowledge. In particular, the implicit method showed the highest learning rate of 52 points, and the thematic method had a 41 point-learning rate. In contrast, the semantic method was the lowest with a 25 point-learning rate. There was no significant difference in the improvement rate of upper vocabulary learners, but in the case of the lower learner, there was significant difference in the improvement rate. The difference was not significant in the post-test relative gain rate of upper learners, but there was significant in lower learners. In the delayed test relative gain rate, the difference was significant in all groups. There was correlation between vocabulary difficulty and score, but there was no correlation with the thematic method. And there was no correlation between vocabulary difficulty, improvement rate and relative gain rate in all three classes. However, content understanding, lexical grade, improvement rate, and relative gain rate showed a significant correlation.

동영상을 활용한 봉제 교육 연구 (Using Videos as a Teaching Tool in Sewing)

  • This study investigated the effective pedagogical strategies for sewing by examining the efficacy of sewing videos as supplemental learning materials and demonstration tools. Sewing videos were created for face-to-face apparel construction courses, and students' opinions on sewing videos as an educational tool were collected. Videos with subtitles were offered to Apparel Construction Course 1, whereas videos with narration and subtitles were offered to Apparel Construction Course 2. As "supplemental learning materials," students rated videos as more effective for learning and satisfying than "documents with text and images." The effectiveness and satisfaction scores for Apparel Construction Course 2 were significantly higher than those for Apparel Construction Course 1. Furthermore, videos were utilized significantly more than documents, and most students preferred videos over documents. The main benefits of videos as supplemental learning materials were repetitive learning at the learner's convenience and the detailed presentation of the sewing process. Students regarded narration as more effective and satisfying than subtitles. Narrations were expected to be offered along with subtitles. As "demonstration tools," students rated videos as more effective for learning and satisfying than traditional "sewing samples." Students preferred "demonstration with videos" to "demonstration with sewing samples." The main benefits of video demonstration were a close-up view, presentation of the entire sewing process, and shorter wait time without the need for group teaching. Students wanted more sewing videos and narrations to be offered, and various sewing machine feet to be used in the videos. Educational methods for sewing were suggested based on student opinions.

뉴노멀시대에 있어서 물류 관련 학과의 온라인교육 경험 (Experience in Online Education in Logistic-related Departments in the New Normal Age)

  • The purpose of this study is to share the experience of online education with departments related to the servic industry, such as distribution and logistics, in the New Normal Age of COVID-19 pandemics. The graduation presentation project, which is the capstone design subject and the most urgent subject for face-to-face classes, was selected as the online education subject of this study. The results of this study are as follows : First, several online class tools, such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet, have also been shown to be applicable to capstone design subjects such as graduation presentation projects. Second, it is essential to reorganize the curriculum to enhance students' ability to practice and utilize online contents. Third, continuous education and training are needed to make easy use of the aforementioned online teaching tools. Meanwhile, fourth, further research is needed to solve the learning effects caused by online learning, and difficulties in communication.

Improving streamflow and flood predictions through computational simulations, machine learning and uncertainty quantification

  • To mitigate the damaging impacts of floods, accurate prediction of runoff, streamflow and flood inundation is needed. Conventional approach of simulating hydrology and hydraulics using loosely coupled models cannot capture the complex dynamics of surface and sub-surface processes. Additionally, the scarcity of data in ungauged basins and quality of data in gauged basins add uncertainty to model predictions, which need to be quantified. In this presentation, first the role of integrated modeling on creating accurate flood simulations and inundation maps will be presented with specific focus on urban environments. Next, the use of machine learning in producing streamflow predictions will be presented with specific focus on incorporating covariate shift and the application of theory guided machine learning. Finally, a framework to quantify the uncertainty in flood models using Hierarchical Bayesian Modeling Averaging will be presented. Overall, this presentation will highlight that creating accurate information on flood magnitude and extent requires innovation and advancement in different aspects related to hydrologic predictions.

자료제시형 교육용 소프트웨어의 구조 분석 (Analysis Structure of Educational Software as Presentation Style)

  • 정보통신기술의 발전과 더불어 성장하기 시작한 국내의 사이버 학습은 콘텐츠의 양적인 측면에서 볼 때 상당한 수준에 이르렀다. 그럼에도 불구하고 콘텐츠의 구조적인 특정에 대한 연구는 미약한 수준이다. 이에 국내에서 초중등 학습용으로 가장 많이 사용하는 사이버 학습 콘텐츠의 유형을 자료제시형으로 규명하고, 그것의 구조적 특징을 탐색하기 위한 설문 조사와 실행 분석을 실시하였다. 예비 교사를 대상으로 실시한 설문 조사 결과에서, 자료제시형 콘텐츠는 반복연습과 개인교수형의 형태에 가장 근접하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 반면에 시뮬레이션형과 게임형에 대한 응답은 매우 낮은 수준으로 나타난다. 그리고 자료제시형 콘텐츠의 실행을 분석한 결과, 멀티미디어 자료제시와 동기유발 빈도수는 높게 나타난 반면 시간 및 변수 조절기능은 극소수에 불과하였다. 따라서 이를 해결하기 위해서는 콘텐츠의 양적 확대에 주력하기 보다는 사이버 학습 체제에서 구현 가능한 교육과정을 선택하고 이것이 테크놀로지와의 결합을 통해 자료제시 형태의 교수적 표상이 효과적으로 녹여진 콘텐츠로의 개발로 이어질 수 있도록 하는 노력이 필요하다.
