  • Preparation of conducting Polymer composites by Polymerizing Polypyrrole in thermoplastic polymer matrices has been studied by many researchers in order to enhance the stability and the Physical Properties of polypyrrole. In the previous study4 we examined the effects of the ionic group content and the copolyester molecular structures on the electrical conductivity of conductivity of polypyrrole(PPy)/copolyester composite films. • The displacement of carbon black to polypyrrole as a catalyst supporter in the fuel electrode of a direct methanol fuel cell was investigated. Polypyrrole was obtained as a black powder by the chemical polymerization of pyrrole with three different oxidants. The synthesized polypyrroles were pasted on carbon paper and transformed to the fuel electrodes with electrochemically deposited platinum. The prepared fuel electrode was assembled and mounted in a unit cell using a membrane and cathodic electrode film. In comparison with the carbon black fuel electrode, the performance of the unit cell was analyzed in relation to the state of the catalyst, the type of oxidant, and the morphology of the polypyrrole powder.

  • The electrically conducting cellulose acetate/polypyrrole composite films were synthesized by exposing cellulose acetate film containing oxidizing agent to pyrrole vapour and the formation of polypyrrole is confirmed by IR and electron microscopic studies. The morphologies of polypyrrole in the composites are different depending on the oxidizing agent. Ferric chloride is most effective among several metallic chlorides to synthesize the composites with high electrical conductivity. The conductivity of composite films synthesized with 50 wt.% of ferric chloride reaches upto $10^{-2}S/cm$.

  • Polycarbonate(PC)/polypyrrole(PPy) conducting composites were prepared by precipitation polymerization. $FeCl_3$, pyrrole and chloroform were used as oxidant, monomer, and solvent, respectively. The electrical conductivity was increased with increasing the amount of PPy, while the mechanical property was decreased. When the PPy content was 25 wt %, the electrical conductivity of the composites was increased up to 0.23 S/cm. The electrical conductivity, the stability of conductivity in air and mechanical properties of the composites of different PPy content were investigated and the morphology of the composite films was observed.

  • The conducting composites were prepared by blending polypyrrole (PPy) as a conducting polymer and nylon6,6 as a matrix. In chemical polymerization of PPy, the oxidizing agent was $FeCl_3$ and dopant was alkylbenzenesulfonic acid, such as camphorsulfonic acid (CSA) or dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid (DBSA). The electrical conductivity and mechanical properties were measured for the amount of dopant and PPy complex, and these morphology observed. When it was doped with DBSA having long alkyl chain and added the PPy complex of 25 wt %, the electrical conductivity was increased up to 0.64 S/cm.

  • The conducting composites were prepared by emulsion polymerization with poly (acrylonitrile-co-butadiene) (NBR) as a matrix and polypyrrole (PPY) as a conducting polymer. Among several surfactants, the electrical conductivity of the composite which was polymerized by dodecyl sodium sulfate (DSS) was the best. The film of composite was prepared by compression molding. The electrical conductivity was measured by 4 probes method as a function of PPY and temperature. When the content of PPY was 25 wt%, the electrical conductivity of composite was increased up to 1.17 S/cm. The percolation threshold showed at the vicinity of 15 wt% PPY content.

  • In this article, the preparation of hydrogels containing conducting polymer@lignin hybrids and their application to sensing materials were demonstrated using diverse techniques. A conducting polymer, polypyrrole (PPy) was polymerized on the surface of lignin and successful formation was analyzed with Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Subsequently, PPy@lignin hybrids were mixed with a hydrogel matrix to obtain a conductive hydrogel. The feasibility of using the hydrogel as a sensing material was shown by obtaining reasonable sensing signals using various electrical measurements when adding solvents and solutions to the sensor system. The significance of sensor signals was confirmed with complementary experiments. This study shows that the hydrogel containing the PPy@lignin could be used for sensor applications.
