  • In this paper, an analytical model is proposed to predict the shear strenth of RC beams strengthened by FRP. This predictional model is composed of two basic models-the upper bound theorem for shear failure (shear tension or shear compression criteria) and a truss model based on the lower bound theorem for diagonal tension creteria. Also, a simple flexural theory based on USD is used to explain flexural failure. The major cause of destruction of RC beams shear strengthened by FRP does not lie in FRP fracture but in the loss of load capacity incurred by rip-off failure of shear strengthening material. Since interfacial shear stree between base concrete and the FRP is a major variable in rip-off failure mode, it is carefully analyzed to derive the shear strengthening effect of FRP. The ultimate shear strength and failure mode of RC beams, using different strengthening methods, estimated in this predictional model is then compared with the result derived from destruction experiment of RC beams shear strengthened using FRP. To verify the accuracy and consistency of the analysis, the estimated results using the predictional model are compared with various other experimental results and data from previous publications. The result of this comparative analysis showed that the estimates from the predictional model are in consistency with the experimental results. Therefore, the proposed shear strength predictional model is found to predict with relative accuracy the shear strength and failure mode of RC beams shear strengthened by FRP regardless of strengthening method variable.

  • The use of digital terrain model has been enlarged in calculating the earthwork due to the development of aerial photogrammetry. The calculation of earthwork plays a major role in plan or design of many civil engineering projects, and thus it has become very important to advance the accuracy of earthwork calculation. In this study, I have made an analysis of influences which DTM makes on the height accuracy of data ; on the basis of the analysis, we can develop the predictive model formula of profile shape coefficients by which the accuracy of earthwork can he preestimated in practical design according to data density of terrain, making thereby good contribution to the calculation of both earthwork amount and its expenses. This study shows that the accuracy of earthwork is more affected by the distances of cross-sections than by data density and that the effects by the standard errors of height decrease in proportion as the distances of cross-sections are great It also shows that when the prediction model formula of profile shape coefficients is applied to ordinary cases, the differences between the predicted earthwork errors and the errors by ordinary est imation are at 0.8374~3.1437$cm^3$/m, on flat terrain and 1.5628~6.967$cm^3$/m, on mountainous terrain-so little as to be ignored ; thus it can be safely ascertained that the accurate earthwork errors can be predicted applying the prediction model formula made in this study.

  • For convergent photos, which are now widely adopted for terrestrial facility survey, a number of experimental studies and theoretical studies on the developments of accuracy predictional model according to the convergent angle change have been accomplished. And such studies are basically depend on the symmetrical geometric configuration at the normal direction to the center of the object. However, in may cases of facility survey such as building facades, bridges, dam surfaces, relatively flat topography, etc., the object features are almost like planar, and frequently the surroundings do not allow the photo station at normal direction, and the sufficient convergent angle can be hardly achieved. Considering those points, in this study, the accuracy analysis on three dimensional coordinates according to the variations of photo direction and of convergent angle to the planar object were attempted, and the optimum geometric configurations at the normal, side-looking, and the most side-looking direction were investigated. The result through this study show that from normal direction to the side-looking direction angle ${\tau}=30^{\circ}$, the larger the convergent angle, the higher the accuracy, and in case that right photo is at the most side-looking direction, the better accuracy can be achieved according to the convergent angle increase up to $60^{\circ}$.
