To investigate the flow inside the centrifugal impeller, computer program which can solve Three-dimensional compressible turbulent flow has been developed. The Navier-Stokes equations were chosen as the governing equation for viscous flow while Euler equations for inviscid case. Time marching method was incorporated with the Flux Difference Splitting method suggested by Roe to capture the steep gradients such as a shock. For high order of accuracy, MUSCL approach was adopted while differentiable limiter to ensure TVD property. For turbulence closure, Baldwin- Lomax model was applied due to its simplicity. To demonstrate the capabilities of present program, several validation problems have been solved and compared with experiments and other available data. From the above calculations generally good agreements were obtained. Finally, the developed code was applied to Eckardt's impeller and the performance prediction was carried out. Some important aspects on boundary condition for successful simulation were discussed and the remedy was also introduced.
A novel reliability-based work model of k/n (G) system has been developed. Unit failure probability is given based on the load and strength distributions and according to the stress-strength interference theory. Then a dynamic reliability prediction model of repairable k/n (G) system is established using probabilistic differential equations. The resulting differential equations are solved and the value of k can be determined precisely. The number of work unit k in repairable k/n (G) system is obtained precisely. The reliability of whole life cycle of repairable k/n (G) system can be predicted and guaranteed in the design period. Finally, it is illustrated that the proposed model is feasible and gives reasonable prediction.

In previous study, the effect of specimen sizes and shapes on the compressive strength of concrete specimens was experimentally investigated based on fracture mechanics. In this study, the relationship between the cube compressive strength and the cylinder strength for representative specimen sizes was investigated by linear regression analyses. And, by reanalyzing the compressive strength prediction equations with specimen size and shape obtained in previous studies, the compressive strength prediction equations were generalized. In addition, its verification was investigated by comparing with the results obtained from other researchers.

Schmidt hammer and ultra-sonic method are commonly used for crushed sand concrete compressive strength test in a construction field. At present, various of equations for prediction of strength are present, which have been used in a construction field. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the correlation between prediction strength by presentation equations and destructive strength to test specimen, and find out which is a suitable equation for the construction site, In this study, a strength test was carried out destructive test by means of core sampling and traditional test. Non-destructive test was conducted Schmidt hammer and ultra-sonic method, the experimental parameter were concrete age, curing condition, test method and strength level. It is demonstrated that the correlation behavior of crushed sand concrete strength in this study good due to the perform analysis of correlation between core, destructive strength and non-destructive strength.
In this study. an off-design performance prediction program for centrifugal pumps is developed. To estimate the losses in an impeller flow passage, two-zone model and two-element in series(TEIS) model are used. At impeller exit. the mixing process occurs with an increase in entropy. In two-zone model. there are both primary zone and secondary zone for an isentropic core flow and an average of all non-isentropic streamtubes respectively. The level of the core flow diffusion in an impeller was calculated by using TEIS model. While internal losses in an impeller an automatically estimated by using the above models, some empirical correlations far estimating external losses. far example, disk friction loss, recirculation loss and leakage loss are used. In order to analyze the vaneless diffuser flow. the momentum equations for the radial and tangential directions are used and solved together with continuity and energy equations.

Unusual mechanical constitutive behavior of magnesium alloy sheets has been implemented into the finite element program ABAQUS via user material subroutine. For the verification purpose, the springback of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet was measured using the unconstrained cylindrical bending test of Numisheet'2002. In addition to the developed constitutive models, the other two models based on isotropic constitutive equations with tensile and compressive properties were also considered. Preliminary comparisons have been made between simulated results by the finite element analysis and corresponding experiments and the newly proposed model showed enhanced prediction capability in springback prediction.

The non-destructive tests are widely used to predict the strength of existing structures. The purpose of the present study is to propose the prediction equations for strength evaluation of concrete structures. The present study focuses on the rebound method and ultrasonic pulse velocity method for quartzite aggregate concrete. The major test variables include the water-cement ratio and curing methods. The water-cement ratio are 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, respectively and the curing method covers ail-dry condition and standard curing condition. The prediction equations for strength of concrete are proposed from the present test data.
The results of previous tests by many researchers have been compiled to evaluate the flexural strength of steel-fiber reinforced concrete beams. Existing prediction equations for flexural strength of such beams were examined, and a new equation based on mechanical and empirical observations, was proposed. In other words, the constitutive models for steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) were proposed, which incorporate compressive and tensile strength. A steel model might also exhibit stain-hardening characteristics. Predictions based on the model are compared with the experimental data. For the collection of tests, a variation of the Henager equations, modified to apply to fiber-reinforced concrete beams, provided reliable estimates of flexural strength. The proposed equations accounted for the influence of fiber-volume fraction, fiber aspect ratio, concrete compressive strength and flexural steel reinforcement ratio. The proposed equations gave a good estimation for 129 flexural specimens evaluated.

Prediction of performance and operating characteristics of a state-of-the-art ultra-supercritical (USC) steam turbine is an important issue in many ways. Theoretical and empirical correlation equations, developed a few decades ago, have been widely used in commercial programs for a prediction of performance. To improve of these correlation equations and apply them to the high pressure turbine of a USC steam turbine, computational fluid dynamic analysis was carried out and correlation equations to calculate efficiency variation of each stage were made. Both fluid dynamic characteristic and thermodynamic performance was analyzed for the development of the correlation equations. In particular, the impact of flow addition through an overload valve (OLV) between stages was examined throughly. The trend of pressure drop due to the flow mixing by the OLV flow addition was analyzed and an efficiency correlation equation considering the OLV flow was also made.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the accuracy of predictive equations for resting metabolic rate (RMR) in Korean college students. Subjects were 60 healthy Korean college students (30 males, 30 females) aged 18-25 years. RMR was measured by indirect calorimetry. Predicted RMRs were calculated using the Harris-Benedict, Schofield (W)/(WH), FAO/ WHO/UNU(W)/(WH), Owen, Mifflin, Cunningham, Liu, IMNA and Henry (W)/(WH) equations. The accuracy of the equations was evaluated on basis of accurate prediction (the percentage of subjects whose RMR was predicted within 90% to 110% of the RMR measured), mean difference, RMSPE, mean % difference, limits of agreement of Bland- Altman method between predicted and measured RMR. Measured RMR of male and female students were $1833.4{\pm}307.4kcal/day$ and $1454.3{\pm}208.0kcal/day$, respectively. All predictive equations underestimated measured RMR. Of the predictive equations tested, the Harris-Benedict equation (mean difference: -80.4 kcal/day, RMSPE: 236 kcal/day, mean % difference: -3.1%) was the most accurate and precise, but accurate prediction of the equation was only 42%. Thus, this study suggests that the ethnicity-specific predictive equation from Korean people should be developed to improve the accuracy of predicted RMR for Koreans.
