In this study, the accuracy of a real-time hybrid test (RTHT) employed for a performance test of a tuned mass damper (TMD) on an offshore wind turbine (OWT) with a complicated jacket-type supporting structure is quantified and evaluated by comparing the RTHT results with the experimental data obtained from a shaking table test (STT), in which a 1/25-scale model for a typical 5-MW OWT controlled by a TMD was tested. In the RTHT, the jacket-type OWT structure was modelled using both multiple-DOF (MDOF) and single-DOF (SDOF) numerical models. When compared with the STT test data, the test results of the RTHT show that while the SDOF model, which requires less control computational time, is able to well predict the peak responses of the nacelle and TMD only, the MDOF model is able to effectively predict both the peak and over-all time-history responses at multiple critical locations of an OWT structure. This also indicates that, depending on the type of structural responses considered, an RTHT with either an SDOF or a MDOF model may be a promising alternative to the STT to assess the effectiveness of a TMD for seismic mitigation in an OWT context.

This paper presents the sliding mode control with the perturbation estimator for a nonlinear control system in the presence of perturbations including external disturbances, unpredictable parameter variations, ana unstructured dynamics. The proposed perturbation estimator is based on the Recursive Linear Smoothed Newton predictive algorithm so that it is effective to attenuate an undesired noise in high frequency band and to predict the present perturbation signal from the previous ones. Compared to conventional sliding mode control (SMC) and sliding mode control with perturbation estimation (SMCPE) introduced by Elmali and Olgac, the control algorithm proposed in this study can offer better tracking control performances and more feasible estimation characteristics. The effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control strategy are demonstrated by a series of simulations on the position tracking control of a simple two-link robot manipulator subject to velocity feedback signals including white noises.
In this paper, a sensorless pitch angle control method for a wind generation system is suggested. One-step-ahead prediction control law is adopted to control the pitch angle of a wind turbine in order for electric output power to track target values. And it is shown that this control scheme using the inverse dynamics of the controlled system enables us to predict current wind speed without an anemometer, to a considerable precision. The inverse input-output of the controlled system is realized by use of an artificial neural network. The proposed control and wind speed prediction method is applied to a Double-Feed Induction Generation system connected to a simple power system through computer simulation to show its effectiveness. The simulation results demonstrate that the suggested method shows better control performances with less control efforts than a conventional Proportional-Integral controller.

The present study concerns the numerical simulation of a supply airflow control in a variable air volume (VAY) system. A stratified thermal model (multi-zone model) is suggested to predict a local thermal response of an air-conditioned space. The effects of various thermal parameters such as the cooling system capacity, the thermal mass of an air-conditioned space, the time delay of thermal effect, and the building envelope heat transmission are investigated. Further, the influence of control parameters such as the supply air temperature, the PI control factor and the thermostat location on a VAV system is quantitatively delineated. The results obtained show that the previous homogeneous lumped thermal model (single zone model) may overestimate the time taken to the set point temperature. It is also found that there exist the appropriate ranges of the control parameters for the optimal airflow control of the VAV system.

In phase controlled rectifier, it's been known that a fast response is achieved by predictive current control without any overshoot. The frequent sampling period is essential to improve the firing accuracy in conventional predict current control. However, improving the firing accuracy if difficult to reduce the period of sampling efficiently because current sampling and predictive current control is carried out in every period and the ON-OFF current control is performed by comparing two different one. To improve the firing accuracy at the predictive current control, the calculated firing angle is loaded into the high-accuracy hardware timer. So the calculation of exact crossing point between the predictive and actual current is the most important. In this paper, the flow chart for proposed firing angle calculation algorithm is obtained for the fastest current control performance in transient state. The performance of proposed algorithm is verified through simulations and experiments.

Control algorithms for the absorption air conditioning system may be developed by using dynamic models of the system. The simplified effective dynamic models, which can predict the dynamic behaviors of the system, may help to develop effective control algorithms for the system. In this study, control algorithms for an absorption air conditioning system were developed by using a dynamic simulation program. A cooling water inlet temperature control algorithm, a chilled water outlet temperature control algorithm, and a supply air temperature control algorithm, were developed and analyzed. The steepest descent method was used as an optimal algorithm. The simulation results showed energy savings and the effective controls of an absorption air conditioning system.

This paper presents the dynamic characteristics of r rotor-bearing system supported by an actively controlled hydrodynamic journal bearing. The proportional, derivative and integral controls are adopted for the control algorithm to control the hydrodynamic journal bearing with an axially groove. Also, the cavitation algorithm implementing the Jakobsson-Floberg-olsson boundery condition is adopted to predict cavitation regions in the fluid film more accurately than conventional analysis, which uses the Reynolds condition. The speed at onset of instability of a rotor-bearing system is increased by both proportional and derivative control of the bearing. The integral control has no effect on stability characteristics of hydrodynamic journal bearing. The PD-control is more effective than proportional or derivative control. Results show the active control of bearing can be adopted for the stability improvement of a rotor-bearing system.

In this Paper, the temperature control error and cooling characteristics of inverter typ coolers are evaluated to predict application validity of coolers under heating pattern and amount The temperature control error of coolers small in 15~70% range of the max. cooling ability. At less than 15% of max. cooling ability has the inverter type cooler a basic temperature control error $\pm0.5^{\circ}C$ and acts as on/off type coolers. The inverter type cooler is unsuitable for precision temperature control under the complex heating pattern. But PID control of cooler including the heating system is an alternative for the case.
This study aimed at developing control algorithms for operating a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heating and cooling system with optimal system parameter set-points. Two artificial neural network (ANN) models, which were respectively designed to predict the heating energy cost and cooling energy amount for upcoming next control cycle, was developed and embedded into the control algorithms. Performance of the algorithms were tested using the computer simulation programs - EnergyPlus, BCVTB, MATLAB in an incorporative manner. The results revealed that the proposed control algorithms remarkably saved the heating energy cost by as much as 7.93% and cooling energy consumption by as much as 28.44%, compared to a conventional control strategy. These findings support that the ANN-based predictive control algorithms showed potential for cost- and energy-effectiveness of VRF heating and cooling systems.

This paper presents the stability characteristics of a rotor-bearing system supported by actively controlled hydrodynamic journal bearing. The proportional and derivative controls including coupled motion are adopted for the control algorithm to control the hydrodynamic journal bearing with a circumferentially groove. Also, the cavitation algorithm implementing the Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson boundary condition is adopted to predict cavitation regions in the fluid film more accurately than conventional analysis which uses the Reynolds condition. The stability characteristics are investigated with the Routh-Hurwitz criteria using the linear dynamic coefficients which are obtained from the perturbation method. The stability characteristics of the rotor-bearing system supported by active controlled hydrodynamic journal bearing are investigated for various control gain. It is found that the speed at onset of instability is increased for both proportional and derivative control of the bearing, and the proportional and derivative control of coupled motion is more effective than proportional and derivative control of uncoupled motion.
