PBIS: A Pre-Batched Inspection Strategy for spent nuclear fuel inspection robot

  • Nuclear power plants play a pivotal role in the global energy infrastructure, fulfilling a substantial share of the world's energy requirements in a sustainable way. The management of these facilities, especially the handling of spent nuclear fuel (SNF), necessitates meticulous inspections to guarantee operational safety and efficiency. However, the prevailing inspection methodologies lean heavily on human operators, which presents challenges due to the potential hazards of the SNF environment. This study introduces the design of a novel Pre-Batched Inspection Strategy (PBIS) that integrates robotic automation and image processing techniques to bolster the inspection process. This methodology deploys robotics to undertake tasks that could be perilous or time-intensive for humans, while image processing techniques are used for precise identification of SNF targets and regulating the robotic system. The implementation of PBIS holds considerable promise in minimizing inspection time and enhancing worker safety. This paper elaborates on the structure, capabilities, and application of PBIS, underlining its potential implications for the future of nuclear energy inspections.

도로터널에서 MMS를 이용한 정밀안전진단 적용 사례 (An application of MMS in precise inspection for safety and diagnosis of road tunnel)

  • 향상된 MMS (Mobile Mapping System)를 이용하여 도로터널 정밀안전진단 항목을 검토하고 분석하였다. MMS에 의한 적용 가능한 항목은 외관조사, 조사 및 비파괴시험, 구조안전성, 유지관리방안일 것이다. MMS의 차량속도가 너무 빠르면 점군데이터의 해상도가 낮아지고 너무 느리면 보정값 오차가 증가하는 경향을 보인다. 본 연구에 적용된 장비에서는 50 km/h 속도에서 측정이 효과적이다. MMS의 점군 자료에 근거한 균열폭을 판단하기에는 한계가 있으나 터널내 설비 현황과 방재관리기준과 부합되는지를 검토할 수있다. MMS의 3차원 점군은 횡단면 측량의 검토 및 종단면 측량의 변화에 적용될 수 있는데 이는 터널 전체에 대해 차량 한계를 직관적으로 검토할 수 있을 것이다. 시험 개수와 조사 위치를 무작위로 선정하는 현재 정밀안전진단의 측정과 비교하여 MMS의 연속된 환경조건 측정은 정밀도 높은 분석에서 효과적이며 의미가 있을 것이다.

DUPIC 핵연료봉 봉단 용접부 건전성 확인을 위한 미세초점 X-선 투과시험에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Micro-Focus X-Ray Inspection for Confirming the Soundness of End Closure Weld of DUPIC Fuel Elements)

  • DUPIC (Direct use of spent PWR fuel in CANDU reactors) nuclear fuel is a CANDU fuel fabricated remotely from spent PWR fuel materials in a hot cell. The soundness of the end closure welds of nuclear fuel elements is an important factor for the safety and performance of nuclear fuel. To evaluate the soundness of the end closure welds of DUPIC fuel element, a precise X-ray inspection system is developed using a micro-focus X-ray generator with an image intensifier and a real time camera system. The fuel elements made of Zircaloy-4 and stainless steel by an Nd:YAG laser welding and a TIG welding aye inspected by the developed inspection system. The soundness of the welds of the fuel elements was confirmed by the X-ray inspection process, and the irradiation test of DUPIC fuel elements has been successfully completed at the HANARO research reactor.

자가용 전기설비의 자가진단 기준에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Self-Diagnosis Criteria of Electrical Installations)

  • This paper is to enable electrical safety manager to have more objective evaluation on the safety by indicating quantitative values such as life-time and status quotient of daily visual inspection on private electrical equipments. Self-diagnosis table is recommended to apply such a evaluation efficiently according to the characteristics of each electrical equipments, and the managers's determination of the precise inspection, replacement etc. will be also possible through the standard selected by various domestic and foreign data with expert's advise for numerical evaluation. This circumstance will be able to establish the foundation to secure the soundness of electrical equipments.

  • 국내에는 17,000여개의 저수지가 존재하며, 이중 85% 이상은 50년 이상 경과된 노후 저수지이다. 이들 저수지는 내부침식 및 세굴 현상에 의한 누수와, 그에 따른 붕괴의 위험에 직면하고 있다. 이들 저수지 및 댐의 붕괴를 방지하기 위해서는 누수를 조기에 파악하고 대비하는 것이 중요하다. 전기비저항 탐사는 저수지의 전반적인 상태 파악은 물론 누수의 발달여부 탐지가 가능한 비파괴, 실시간, 현장조사법이다. 이러한 장점 때문에 전기비저항 탐사법은 저수지 안전진단에 널리 사용되고 있다. 그러나 전기비저항 탐사법은 저수지의 안전도에 대한 정량적인 지수를 제공하지 못해 공식적으로 저수지 정밀 안전진단의 상태평가 항목에 포함되어 있지 못하다. 이 연구에서는 전기비저항 탐사와 유도분극 탐사를 통하여 계산된 수분함량에 근거한 정량적 누수지수 산출법을 제시하였다. 특히 일회성 탐사와 모니터링에 의한 정량적 누수지수 산출법을 개발하여 전기비저항 탐사와 유도분극 탐사가 향후 저수지 정밀 안전진단의 상태평가 항목으로 진입할 수 있는 이론적 기반을 제시하였다.

포항지진 발생 주변지역 지질특성에 따른 저수지 취약성 해석 (Analysis of Reservoir Vulnerability Based on Geological Structure Around Pohang Earthquake)

  • A total of 594 reservoirs (17%), which are managed by KRC, equipped with earthquake-resistant facilities whereas remaining ones did not. In addition, reservoirs were placed without the effect of geological structures (i.e., fault and lineament). Therefore, development on technique for alleviating the potential hazards by natural disasters along faults and lineaments has required. In addition, an effective reinforcement guideline related to the geological vulnerabilities around reservoirs has required. The final goal of this study is to suggest the effective maintenance for the safety of earth fill dams. A radius 2 km, based on the center of the reservoir in the study area was set as the range of vulnerability impacts of each reservoir. Seismic design, precise safety diagnosis, seismic influence and geological structure were analyzed for the influence range of each reservoir. To classify the vulnerability of geological disasters according to the fault distribution around the reservoir, evaluation index of seismic performance, precise safety diagnosis, seismic influence and geological structure were also developed for each reservoir, which were a component of the vulnerability assessment of geological disasters. As a result, the reservoir with the highest vulnerability to geological disasters in the pilot district was analyzed as Kidong reservoir with an evaluation index of 0.364. Within the radius of 100km from the epicenter of the Pohang earthquake, the number of agricultural infrastructure facilities subject to urgent inspections were 1,180 including reservoirs, pumping stations and intakes. Four reservoirs were directly damaged by earthquake among 724 agricultural reservoirs. As a result of the precise inspection and electrical resistivity survey of the reservoir after the earthquake, it was reported that cracks on the crest of reservoirs were not a cause of concern. However, we are constantly monitoring the safety of agricultural facilities by Pohang aftershocks.

필 댐의 특성을 고려한 농업용 저수지 정밀안전진단체계 개선 연구 (A Study on the Safety Inspection System Improvement of Agricultural Reservoir Considering Fill-Dam Characteristics)

  • In 2008, 17, 596 dams and reservoirs are scattered across South Korea, and 17, 505 of them (99.5 %) are used for agriculture and 99.3 % are fill dam types. This study aimed to review literature related to the precise safety diagnosis system for agricultural reservoirs established by Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRCC) and analyze problems of its evaluation method. And then, it proposed ways to improve the system including a modified diagnosis system, which was applied to pilot districts in order to verify the utility. For assessment model development of agricultural reservoir, we reviewed status of precision safety inspections systems of agricultural reservoir. There are many problems such as assess agricultural reservoir not by sheet which used in fill dam but by block which used in concrete dam construction and diversion tunnel which main element in reservoir levee is treated as water intake facility. For considering diversion tunnel in reservoir levee, previous precision safety inspection systems which summed in separated phenomenon, separated element, separated site, separated facility was change to new systems which summed in site, phenomenon, element, and facility. Compared results of previous inspection system calculated total assessment index (Ec) with new system calculated total assessment index (Ec) are not show statistical difference.

균열발생 지하철 본선구조물의 안정성 연구 (A Study on Stability of Cracked Main Structure in Subway)

  • In this study, a series of items on the safety and stability of cracked main structure in subway are investigated and analyzed. Cracks due to dry contraction under the construction can be found when a tensile stress of cross section is higher than tensile strength at a value of coefficient of dry contraction $200{\times}10^{-6}$. It is concluded that there is no problems when load carrying capacity, that is, an ability of resisting loads of structure is enough in this analytical model. Also, it is concluded that this model has a desirable serviceability because a width of bending crack is lower than allowable one.

드론 열화상활용 저수지 제체 누수탐사 (Drone Infrared Thermography Method for Leakage Inspection of Reservoir Embankment)

  • The result of examination of diagnostic method, which is composed of a combination of a thermal camera and a drone that visually shows the temperature of the object by detecting the infrared rays, for detecting the leakage of earth dam was driven in this research. The drone infrared thermography method was suggested to precise safety diagnosis through direct comparing the two method results of electrical resistivity survey and thermal image survey. The important advantage of the thermal leakage detection method was the simplicity of the application, the quickness of the results, and the effectiveness of the work in combination with the existing diagnosis method.

  • 터널에서 외기에 접촉되는 부분은 입, 출구부와 환기구가 있으며 이러한 부위의 열화와 그 진행속도는 외기의 영향을 받지 않는 구간과는 다른 차이를 보여준다. 실제로 터널에서 외기에 접촉되는 부분뿐만 아니라 외기의 영향을 받는 구간은 일반적인 구간과는 다른 관점에서 접근해야 할 필요가 있고 보수나 보강공법 적용시에도 우선 고려가 되어야 한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 터널의 유지관리시, 점검 및 정밀안전진단시 외부온도의 영향을 받는 구간의 결함 및 열화는 그 범위가 광범위함에도 불구하고 구조체의 안전성에 미치는 영향이 미소하다는 이유로 소홀히 되고 있는 실정이며 일시적인 계절영향, 온도 변화요인에 의한 것으로 판단하여 특별한 관리가 되지 않고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 논문은 외부온도, 기온의 터널내 영향범위를 산출하기 위해 2개소의 도심지 터널에 대해서 적외선 열화상카메라를 활용하여 터널내의 외부온도 영향범위를 결정하고 그 영향범위에서 발생되는 콘크리트라이닝 또는 콘크리트 구조체의 결함 및 열화원인을 분석하고 유지관리시 중점을 두고 시행해야 할 사항을 제시하였다.
