A trapdoor discrete logarithm group is a cryptographic primitive with many applications, and an algorithm that allows discrete logarithm problems to be solved faster using a pre-computed table increases the practicality of using this primitive. Currently, the distinguished point method and one extension to this algorithm are the only pre-computation aided discrete logarithm problem solving algorithms appearing in the related literature. This work investigates the possibility of adopting other pre-computation matrix structures that were originally designed for used with cryptanalytic time memory tradeoff algorithms to work as pre-computation aided discrete logarithm problem solving algorithms. We find that the classical Hellman matrix structure leads to an algorithm that has performance advantages over the two existing algorithms.

This paper summarizes the results of a series of numerical evaluations (Lee et al., 2004, 2005) on the performance of pre-cracked reinforced concrete (RC) beams coated with polymeric composites. It was intended to numerically show the superior characteristics of the polymeric composites for enhancing the strength and ductility of existing concrete structures. Further, the predicted load-carrying and energy absorbing capacities of the beams were compared with previous experiments to verify the predictive capability of implemented computational model.

When the ground is excavated near the pre-existing structures due to the region restricted condition such as urban area, the ground will be released by the excavation and the temporary wall will be deformed depending on the earth pressure. In this case, issues can be created in terms of stability of pre-existing structures. Firstly, the laboratory model tests were carried out to investigate the ground surface settlement due to the ground excavation according to the excavation methods in this study. Using the ground surface settlement results from model tests, numerical analyses were carried out to study the structure deformation due to the ground excavation according to the excavation methods. Finally, using the structure deformation results from numerical analysis, the damage assessment of structures was carried out by using the strain damage estimation criterion.
Precast-cast insitu concrete bridge construction is widely practiced for small to medium span structures. These bridges consist of precast pre-stressed concrete beams of various cross-sections with a cast in-situ reinforced concrete slab. The connection between the beams and the slab is via shear links often included during the manufacturing process of the beams. This form of construction is attractive as it provides for standardisation, reduced formwork and construction time. The assessment of the integrity of shear connectors in existing bridges is a major challenge. A procedure for assessment of shear connectors based on vibration testing and finite element model updating is proposed. The technique is applied successfully to a scaled model bridge model and an existing bridge structure.

Hollow center cracked disc (HCCD) in Brazilian test was modelled numerically to study the crack propagation in the pre-cracked disc. The pre-existing edge cracks in the disc models were considered to investigate the crack propagation and coalescence paths within the modelled samples. The effect of particle size on the hollow center cracked disc (HCCD) in Brazilian test were considered too. The results shows that Failure pattern is constant by increasing the ball diameter. Tensile cracks are dominant mode of failure. These crack initiates from notch tip, propagate parallel to loading axis and coalescence with upper model boundary. Number of cracks increase by decreasing the ball diameter. Also, tensile fracture toughness was decreased with increasing the particle size. In this research, it is tried to improve the understanding of the crack propagation and crack coalescence phenomena in brittle materials which is of paramount importance in the stability analyses of rock and concrete structures, such as the underground openings, rock slopes and tunnel construction.
Three points bending flexural test was modeled numerically to study the crack propagation in the pre-cracked beams. The pre-existing edge cracks in the beam models were considered to investigate the crack propagation and coalescence paths within the modeled samples. The effects of particle size on the single edge-notched round bar in bending test were considered too. The results show that Failure pattern is constant by increasing the ball diameter. Tensile cracks are dominant mode of failure. These crack initiates from notch tip, propagate parallel to loading axis and coalescence with upper model boundary. Number of cracks increase by decreasing the ball diameter. Also, tensile fracture toughness was decreased with increasing the particle size. In the present study, the influences of particles sizes on the cracks propagations and coalescences in the brittle materials such as rocks and concretes are numerically analyzed by using a three dimensional particle flow code (PFC3D). These analyses improve the understanding of the stability of rocks and concretes structures such as rock slopes, tunnel constructions and underground openings.

Welding deformation causes critical problems under construction and in use of steel structures by varying the magnitude of the steel structures and deteriorating mechanic strength. Existing method to construct steel structures in civil engineering needs preassembly process for a part of or the whole structures on a broad space to examine the size of structures inevitably varied in the process of welding (assembly process). It leads to waste of time, space and human efforts, worry of safety accidents with the characteristic of the work to be performed on a high place, and non-efficiency and non-economy by using such supplementary equipments as crane. This paper, to remove the needless preassembly process by pre-estimating welding deformation produced under construction of large steel structures, devises a method modeling welded part for applying the equivalence load method and examines the effects of welding sequence and self weight on welding deformation by the method.
The paper begins by presenting a unified variational approach to the lateral-torsional buckling (LTB) analysis of doubly symmetric prismatic and tapered thin-walled beams with open cross-sections, which accounts for the influence of the pre-buckling deflections. This approach (i) extends the kinematical assumptions usually adopted for prismatic beams, (ii) consistently uses shell membrane theory in general coordinates and (iii) adopts Trefftz's criterion to perform the bifurcation analysis. The proposed formulation is then applied to investigate the influence of the pre-buckling deflections on the LTB behaviour of prismatic and web-tapered I-section simply supported beams and cantilevers. After establishing an interesting analytical result, valid for prismatic members with shear centre loading, several elastic critical moments/loads are presented, discussed and, when possible, also compared with values reported in the literature. These numerical results, which are obtained by means of the Rayleigh-Ritz method, (i) highlight the qualitative differences existing between the LTB behaviours of simply supported beams and cantilevers and (ii) illustrate how the influence of the pre-buckling deflections on LTB is affected by a number of factors, namely ($ii_1$) the minor-to-major inertia ratio, ($ii_2$) the beam length, ($ii_3$) the location of the load point of application and ($ii_4$) the bending moment diagram shape.
Recently, cases for inevitable adjacent construction are increasing due to the limited spaces in urban area. When a new structure is constructed near an existing structure, interference effects induced by the pre-existing structure should be considered. Thus, numbers of studies have been conducted to investigate the effects of adjacent construction, while laboratory scales studies are not well reported. In this study, laboratory scale experiments have been conducted to investigate the bearing capacity and settlement variations with different adjacent construction cases. Results show an optimistic ground bearing capacity increase of the new foundation structure due to the existing foundation structure, while concerns on the increased settlement of the pre-existing structure. Thus, both bearing capacity of the new foundation structure and subsequent settlement of the existing foundation structure have to be considered when assessing the technical applicability of adjacent structure construction on site.
