This paper summarizes full-scale test results on CFT column-to- flat plate connections has gained wide acceptance subjected to gravity loading. CFT construction has gained wide acceptance in a relatively short time in domestic building construction practice due to its various structural and construction advantages. However, efficient details for CFT column to flat plate connections have not been proposed yet. Based on the strategies that maximize economical field construction, several connecting schemes were proposed and tested. Test results showed strength and connection stiffness exceeding those of R/C flat p late counterparts. A semi-analytical procedure is presented to model the behavior of CFT column-to-flat plate connections. The five parameters to model elastic to post-punching catenary action range are calibrated based on the limited test data of t to progressive collapse prevention design is also illustrated.
The main purpose of this paper is to develop seismic fragility curves for existing reinforced concrete, RC, buildings based on the post earthquake field survey and the seismic performance using capacity design. Existing RC buildings constitute approximately 65% of the total stock in Algiers. This type of buildings, RC, was widely used in the past and chosen as the structural type for the future construction program of more than 2 millions apartments all over Algeria. These buildings, suffered moderate to extensive damage after the 2003 Boumerdes earthquake, on May 21st. The determination of analytical seismic fragility curves for low-rise and mid-rise existing RC buildings was carried out based on the consistent and complete post earthquake survey after that event. The information on the damaged existing RC buildings was investigated and evaluated by experts. Thirty four (34) communes (districts) of fifty seven (57), the most populated and affected by earthquake damage were considered in this study. Utilizing the field observed damage data and the Japanese Seismic Index Methodology, based on the capacity design method. Seismic fragility curves were developed for those buildings with a large number data in order to get a statistically significant sample size. According to the construction period and the code design, four types of existing RC buildings were considered. Buildings designed with pre-code (very poor structural behavior before 1955), Buildings designed with low code (poor structural behavior, between 1955-1981), buildings designed with medium code (moderate structural behavior, between 1981-1999) and buildings designed with high code (good structural behavior, after 1999).
As a brittle failure mode, punching-shear failure can be widely found in traditional RC slab-column connections, which may lead to the entire collapse of a flat plate structure. In this paper, a novel RC slab-column connection with inner steel truss was proposed to enhance the punching strength. In the proposed connection, steel trusses, each of which was composed of four steel angles and a series of steel strips, were pre-assembled at the periphery of the column capital and behaved as transverse reinforcements. With the aim of exploring the punching behavior of this novel RC slab-column connection, a static punching test was conducted on two full-scaled RC slab specimens, and the crack patterns, failure modes, load-deflection and load-strain responses were thoroughly analyzed to explore the contribution of the applied inner steel trusses to the overall punching behavior. The test results indicated that all the test specimens suffered the typical punching-shear failure, and the higher punching strength and initial stiffness could be found in the specimen with inner steel trusses. The numerical models of tested specimens were analyzed in ABAQUS. These models were verified by comparing the results of the tests with the results of the analyzes, and subsequently the sensitivity of the punching capacity to different parameters was studied. Based on the test results, a modified critical shear crack theory, which could take the contribution of the steel trusses into account, was put forward to predict the punching strength of this novel RC slab-column connection, and the calculated results agreed well with the test results.

This paper was aimed to investigate the shear strengthening effect of the pre-loaded reinforced concrete beams strengthened by carbon fiber sheet (CFS) & steel plate. Main test parameters were the magnitude of pre-loading at the time of the retrofit, the strengthening methods of carbon fiber sheet and aid ratio. A series of seventeen specimens was tested to evaluate the corresponding effect of each parameters such as maximum load capacity, load-deflection relationship, load-strain relationship and failure mode. As a result, using the steel plate can increase the capacity of not only shear but also bending moment.

Following an earthquake, the major concerns for damaged buildings are their safety/risk in the event of aftershocks, and thus a quantitative damage assessment must be performed in order to evaluate their residual seismic capacity and to identify necessary actions for the damaged buildings. Post-event damage evaluation is therefore as essential for the quick recovery of a damaged community as pre-event seismic evaluation and strengthening of vulnerable buildings. The objective of this study is to develop a post-earthquake seismic evaluation method for RC frames with URM infill wall for typical school buildings. For this purpose, full-scale, one-bay, single-story specimens having different axial loads in columns are tested under cyclic loadings. During the tests, residual crack widths, which can also be found in damaged buildings, are measured in order to estimate the residual seismic capacity from the observed damage. In this paper, the relationship between the measured residual crack width and the residual seismic capacity is discussed analytically and experimentally, and reduction factors are proposed to estimate the residual seismic capacity based on the observed damage level.

Radiant floor heating systems have been used as common heating supply systems in most residential buildings in Korea. Since the system uses a floor as thermal storage, proper control strategy should be adopted to avoid over-or under-heating problems. So far, studies related to control of the floor heating system have been conducted based on computer simulations. The active layer in TRNSYS is known for its usability as a floor heating system model and is integrated with the TRNSYS building model (Type 56). However, floor heating system simulations with the active layer are operated only if pre-defined minimum mass flow rate is ensured. This study proposes a simple RC (Resistance-Capacitance) model for radiant floor heating systems. Model parameters such as Rs and Cs are defined by optimization. The active layer, in this study, is used as the target system to search for optimal values. A TRNOPT optimization tool was used to conduct optimization under given simulation conditions. The RC model with optimal parameters are tested in other mass flow rates that were not used during optimization. Results reveal the RC model describes the active layer with successfully optimized model parameters. The RC model has fewer model limitations, and is expected to be used for various target systems, e.g. experimental data of a real radiant heating system.

This paper presents the experimental and numerical evaluations on the circular SFRC columns reinforced GFRP rebars under the axial compressive loading. The test programs were designed to inquire and compare the effects of different parameters on the columns' structural behavior by performing experiments and finite element modeling. The research variables were conventional concrete (CC), fiber concrete (FC), types of longitudinal steel/GFRP rebars, and different configurations of lateral rebars. A total of 16 specimens were manufactured and categorized into four groups based on different rebar-concrete arrangements including GRCC, GRFC, SRCC, and SRFC. Adding steel fibers (SFs) into the concrete, it was essential to modify the concrete damage plastic (CDP) model for FC columns presented in the finite element method (FEM) using ABAQUS 6.14 software. Failure modes of the columns were similar and results of peak loads and corresponding deflections of compression columns showed a suitable agreement in tests and numerical analysis. The behavior of GFRP-RC and steel-RC columns was relatively linear in the pre-peak branch, up to 80-85% of their ultimate axial compressive loads. The axial compressive loads of GRCC and GRFC columns were averagely 80.5% and 83.6% of axial compressive loads of SRCC and SRFC columns. Also, DIs of GRCC and GRFC columns were 7.4% and 12.9% higher than those of SRCC and SRFC columns. Partially, using SFs compensated up to 3.1%, the reduction of the compressive strength of the GFRP-RC columns as compared with the steel-RC columns. The effective parameters on increasing the DIs of columns were higher volumetric ratios (up to 12%), using SFs into concrete (up to 6.6%), and spiral (up to 5.5%). The results depicted that GFRP-RC columns had higher DIs and lower peak loads compared with steel-RC columns.
The purpose of this study is the comparative analysis of Susan citizens' images of Eulsook-do as a coastal tourism destination before and after the construction of a road bridge across the Nakdong estuary in order to analyze local people's changes in leisure patterns. Analysis of the images of a pre-construction Eulsook-do that people aged both 40 and less and 50 and more had on five dimensions showed values higher than zero(0) that suggests neutral image, while their images of a post-construction Eulsook-do showed the shrinking size of pentagon on all five dimensions: ET(Entertainment), CA(Culture & Art), EE(Environment & Ecology), RC(Recreation) and LP(Leports) dimensions. Its pre- and post- construction image analysis conducted 20 years after it came to be built finds that the road bridge construction has led to the ecological, environmental disruption of the coast and the lower Nakdong river, having negative influence on the images of Eulsook-so.

To enhance the physiological activities of roasted coffee (RC), 30 kinds of green coffee beans (GCB) with different cultivating areas and varieties were fermented with Monascus ruber mycelium (MR) by solid-state culture. After the dried MR-fermented GCB was subjected medium roasting, each RC was extracted with hot-water. Among the hot-water extracts, the highest yield was the hot-water extract of RC from MR-fermented Indonesia Mandheling GCB (15.5%). However, the hot-water extract of RC from MR-fermented Ethiopia Sidamo GCB showed significantly higher polyphenolic contents (3.08 mg GAE/100 mg) and ABTS free radical scavenging activity (25.41 mg AEAC/100 mg). Meanwhile, the hot-water extract of RC from MR-fermented Vietnam Robusta GCB showed not only the effective inhibition of $TNF-{\alpha}$ level (73.7% inhibition of LPS-stimulated control) from LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells but also significant inhibition of lipogenesis (63.5% inhibition of lipid differentiation control) in 3T3-L1 pre-adipose cells. In conclusion, these results suggest that roasted coffees from Ethiopia Sidamo and Vietnam Robusta green coffee beans fermented with Monascus ruber mycelium using solid-state culture could have industrial applications as functional coffee beverages.
Background: Little is known about alterations of the rotator cuff (RC) macroscopic vasculature associated with medical conditions and/or habits that predispose a person to diseases of the peripheral microcirculation. The high frequency of cuff tear and re-tear in patients with diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, uncontrolled arterial hypertension, or metabolic syndrome may be due to tissue hypovascularity. Methods: The macroscopic vasculature of both the articular and bursal sides of the posterosuperior RC was evaluated arthroscopically in 107 patients (mean age, 58.2 years) with no RC tear. Patients were divided into three groups according to medical comorbidities and lifestyle factors (group I, none; group II, smokers and/or drinkers and one comorbidity; and group III, two or more comorbidities). Pulsating vessels originating from both the myotendinous and osteotendinous junctions were assessed as "clearly evident," "poorly evident," or "not evident." Results: Groups I, II, and III comprised 36, 45, and 26 patients, respectively. Within the myotendinous junction, vessels were visualized in 22 group I patients (61%), 25 group II patients (55%), and 6 group III patients (23%) (P=0.007). Pulsating arterial vessels originating from the osteotendinous junction were seen in 42%, 36%, and 0% of patients, respectively (P<0.001). Within the bursal side of the RC, a dense anastomotic network was visualized (either clearly or poorly) in 94% (34), 80% (36), and 35% (9) of patients, respectively (P<0.001). Conclusions: The macroscopic vasculature of the RC is influenced by pre-existing diseases and lifestyle factors, which may impair peripheral microcirculation.
